24.01.2022 Scott Morrison is up to his ears in this giant marginal seats sports rort. For the Liberals, is always about the announcement and the advertising in their own interest, never about backing Australians or the national interest. No wonder he hates accountability.

21.01.2022 There is something absolutey rotten at the heart of our farm worker temporary visa when this kind of vile exploitation keeps happening.

21.01.2022 There is one job vacancy for every 28 unemployed workers in regional Australia. Scott Morrison should not withdraw support from the economy without a comprehensive jobs plan to replace it.

20.01.2022 Payday lenders profit from the most vulnerable Australians. I’m proud to support Jenny McAllister’s bill to protect Australian consumers.

19.01.2022 You can take the marketing boss out of Tourism Australia. But you can't take marketing out of this Prime Minister.

18.01.2022 Scott Morrison's callous disregard for the plight of international students and temporary workers has damaged Australia's global reputation.

18.01.2022 Yesterday I spoke against the Liberals and Nationals unfair and regressive Higher Education Bill. It will diminish the capability of our universities and their capacity to do world leading teaching and research institutions. It will make Australia a less equal place, making it harder for working class kids and young people who are the first in their family to go to uni and stay at uni. ... It is not in the national interest or in the interest of families and students and it is a terrible shame that the Morrison Liberal National Government and Centre Alliance have done a dirty deal to undermine Australia’s higher education sector.

18.01.2022 We have seen devastating cuts and job losses at regional universities: Where does the National Party stand?

18.01.2022 Two long weeks of Senate Estimates have demonstrated the Morrison Government hates scrutiny, resents accountability and doesn’t have a plan to get us out of the Morrison Recession. Three strong themes emerged: Big announcements. No delivery. Whether it is the $100 million Recycling Investment Fund (announced before the 2019 election, $0 spent), the $5 billion Future Drought Fund (announced in 2018, $0 spent) or the $4 billion Emergency Response Fund (announced in the wake of ...the bushfires, $0 spent) the government’s books are a graveyard of announcements. Wasted taxpayer dollars Firstly, the $3.8 billion MRH-90 helicopter can’t fire its guns while special forces rapidly rope and rappel from the aircraft in conflict. This is a key capability that was required when the Howard Government purchased the aircraft. 14 years later and three expensive redesigns and it still doesn’t do the job it was purchased for. And Tony Abbott’s ‘Knights and Dames’ medals were written off this year costing the taxpayer $145 000 Finally, Australia needs a National Integrity Commission - and Scott Morrison has been sitting on draft legislation for nearly a year. Across the estimates hearings we discovered more details about the Leppington Triangle, where land worth $3 million was sold to the Commonwealth for $30 million. But that was not the only example: we found dodgy contract after dodgy contract, from the $1.1 million of market research from a Liberal-aligned firm to Daryl Maguire’s ‘cash for visas’ scam. I’m proud to be part of Labor’s Senate team we will continue to hold the Morrison government to account.

17.01.2022 Proud to #March4Justice with so many Labor MP’s, Senators and staff and thousands of Australians. Congratulations to the March organisers across Australia and thanks to the hundreds of thousands who came to say enough is enough.

16.01.2022 Rural Australia has a proud union history

14.01.2022 Proud to introduce Anthony Albanese as he outlines Labor’s vision for regional Australia in Coffs Harbour this morning. Regional Australia cannot afford to be left behind by the Morrison Recession.

14.01.2022 While Australians were locked down in April, the Morrison government was investing in what they know best - marketing. And who better to do it than one of their Liberal mates. https://www.theguardian.com//thinly-disguised-political-re

13.01.2022 The LNP has to choose: Either they’re for the mining communities who are fighting to end ‘permanent casuals’ Or the multinational mining companies who profit from forcing Australians on to cut price permanent 'casual' contracts

12.01.2022 Whether it’s backing the cashless debit card, defending unconscionable consumer leases that target the poorest Australians or creating the illegal Robodebt scheme, the Morrison Government is incapable of understanding the pressure on low income families.

11.01.2022 There is no crisis of freedom of speech on Australian university campuses.

11.01.2022 The Morrison government and Rex Patrick have bent to One Nation’s ideological agenda and passed legislation to abolish the family court. The abolition of the family court is a betrayal of Australian families, and especially Australian children. Allowing One Nation’s retrograde misogyny to shape how Australian families resolve complex and difficult disputes is a disgrace.... And in a week where Parliament itself was confronted by the violence that Australian women face they have gutted an institution that saves lives.

10.01.2022 The research and teaching capability of Australian universities are vital for our national interest and future prosperity. The Morrison government should be delivering a package to support universities during the COVD-19 pandemic. Instead it is just another opportunity to undermine these critical institutions and allow cuts to courses and jobs.

08.01.2022 George Christensen has a history of deep connections with far-Right extremists. He goes on their podcasts. He speaks at their rallies.... And he defends their political mobilisation. The far-Right is a threat to Australian democracy and the Prime Minister must act.

08.01.2022 Australian innovation wears hi vis. Moly Cop in Newcastle is one of the nation’s leading steel manufacturers. They are pioneering the use of renewable energy and recycled materials in their steel making. ... Australia has an opportunity to lead the world in green steel. Labor is the party that will deliver it. Green steel can create thousands of jobs of good jobs and revitalise our regional economies. Richard Marles MP Sharon Claydon MP

07.01.2022 The reason we don’t have a Federal ICAC is that the government doesn’t like scrutiny

06.01.2022 The last two weeks have shone a harsh light on the treatment of women in politics and in Australian society more broadly. But today in the Senate - we debated legislation that was created in response to women student protests against Bettina Arndt. It's pretty hard not to reach the conclusion that the Morrison government is only interested in freedom of speech for the reprehensible views of people like Bettina Arndt.... And totally uninterested in defending the rights of women to stand up against sexual violence and for genuine equality.

06.01.2022 Scott Morrison spent two weeks in the United States last year. His itinerary? attending a Trump rally at a box factory in Ohio meetings with senior Democratic officials... And when America's democratic norms were under threat last week he was nowhere to be seen.

06.01.2022 What kind of government would want to stop apprentices receiving on the job training? Four brilliant young Australian apprentices visited Parliament today to speak up for the AMWU - Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union campaign to protect workplace learning and keep apprentices on the tools. You can find out more here: https://www.megaphone.org.au//keep-apprentices-on-the-tools

06.01.2022 George Christensen has a long history of links to right wing extremists, fascists and anti-Semites. Extremism has real world consequences. He has long been a disgrace, now he is dangerous. The Prime Minister must act.

05.01.2022 Some Australian companies are doing the wrong thing during the coronavirus pandemic. Ovato has applied to terminate its redundancy agreement, just before it makes hundreds of long term workers redundant, so that it can avoid paying them their legal entitlements. I will back the AMWU - Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union campaign to defend jobs and security of entitlements for Ovato workers like the Gritt family

03.01.2022 Estimates yesterday confirmed that critical public sector jobs keep being outsourced by the Morrison Government. 45% of the workers who care for veterans are labour hire. The Department of Defence has twice as many people engaged as contractors or labour hire than they directly employ

03.01.2022 When the pandemic hit our economy, most Australians were horrified. But for the Liberal Party back bench, it was an opportunity.

01.01.2022 Working women are still making 14% less than men. There is work to be done to deliver equal pay.

01.01.2022 "The Nationals are massively out of touch with the farmers and people on the land. Akubra and RM Williams will be the only regional companies left supporting them, because when they come out here to kick dust, that's what they wear."
