24.01.2022 WISDOM OF AYURVEDA PART 7 Ayurveda’s Distinctive Identity The holistic approach of Ayurveda makes itself different from the modern medicine in several ways:... good health is a composition of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social wellness. the first target is prevention, treatment comes second. disease is caused by a problem with the whole body, rather than by a single event or body part. the goal of treatment is to fix the underlying cause of disease, instead of just improving the symptoms. Each patient is considered a completely unique entity, and therefore every treatment is unique. treatment involves a wide range of options, including traditional medicine, massage, diet and exercise routine, meditation and self-care. The long lasting treatment needs a close relationship between the doctor and the patient. This would be defined as confidentiality, respect, understanding and sympathy between the two souls. 07.01.2022 **Stay Green this spring** As in nature the warmth of the spring melts the snow, in this time of the year our bodies liquefy and flush out heavy foods such as fat, extra sugar and carbohydrates which have been accumulated during the cold season. We are all familiar with these blockages which show themselves mostly in spring as congestion, allergy, desire for more sleep, etc. According to Ayurveda, this is the best time of the year to copy the nature and move from coldness to ...freshness and purity by cleansing our bodies and by discharging Kapha. Here are some simple ayurvedic tips to help our bodies to go through the spring detox cycle: consume more of green leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuce, broccoli and sprouts. go for more seasonal berries (strawberry, blueberry, etc) and for less citrus fruits. drink plenty of warm water and herbal teas to cleans the body’s channels replace heavy animal protein sources such as meat, eggs, dairy products with freshly cooked or steamed vegetables have less nuts and dried fruits and finally: spend more time in nature, connect with the mother earth and observe the transformation, observe the rebirth! 06.01.2022 WISDOM OF AYURVEDA PART 8 Psychology in Ayurveda Just as doshas are the basic functional energies of the body, there are three operational qualities of the mind called three gunas. These are inherent in all aspects of our lives and cannot be perceived with our senses however, they can be deduced from our actions such as our level of concentration and memory, discipline, honesty, speech and etc. The three states of the psyche, gunas, are named as: . Sattva which repr...esents harmony, knowledge, purity . Rajas which represents agitation, action, passion . Tamas which represents ignorance, inertia, confusion The dominance of Sattva shows itself as mental harmony which initiates knowledge about what is good and what is bad for the body and mind in terms of food, lifestyle, and other activities. Excess of Rajas and Tamas, on the other hand, leads to stress and anxiety, depression, social disorders, etc. Ayurveda’s goal is to gives us a clear guide to reach for the higher quality of Sattva which is the key to life of health and harmony. 03.01.2022 Meditation Event Saying a thankful phrase or a short prayer before or after eating may seem a bit old-fashioned but we should not lose this ritual of expressing our gratitude for the food we have. No difference whether it is a humble food or a fine four-course meal, we should show our appreciation to the nature as the cradle of our food and also to those who provide it for us: farmers, traders, cooks, hosts, etc. This year Brahma Kumaris Australia is hosting an online gui...ded meditation event on Friday 16th October, World Food Day. This is to show respect to Mother Nature who generously gives us food also, to pay tribute to those who work tirelessly for making quality food available to us. World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945. 01.01.2022 WISDOM OF AYURVEDA PART 3 The Pillar of Ayurveda The concept of Tridosha is central to Ayurvedic science. All aspects of this science such as diagnosis of disease, treatments and therapies, dietary advice and exercise regimens are explained with direct reference to the three doshas. Everyone is born with a unique combination of Tridosha, which is termed their constitution so, every human being has varying degrees of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. But typically one of these biological energies is dominant to the other two (main dosha). The secondary dosha is the one present in the next highest proportion. to be continued.
