25.01.2022 Corpus Medicorum presents the first concert in its 2019 Patriots Concert Series. Three of Corpus Medicorums favourite Russian composers feature some of their most stirring music invoking their Russian Homeland. Glinkas famously furious Overture is followed by Prokofievs extraordinary First Violin Concerto. Who else but Rachmaninov can stir patriotic feelings with his highly romantic First Symphony. Conducted by Markiyan Melnychenko We are busting to get back onto the stage to play our favourite music for our favourite Corpus friends! Mindful of the current health situation, we present works for a smaller orchestra to open our season including Handel, Mozart and Vaughan Williams. The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba is a short orchestral interlude in Handel’s epic Solomon opera. Vaughan Williams’s famous Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis is an all-time favourite of string players and Mozart’s immortal 29th Symphony completes our first Symphonic Vaccine for a happy and healthy musical year ahead. Finally, a concert showcasing two worlds poles apart - Sibelius and his grand Finnish 2nd Symphony together with our own wonderful composition celebrating the Greek Diaspora in Australia - Stefan Cassomenos and his Australian premiere of his joyful Concerto for Two Pianos. Stefan is joined by Ian Munro (as unfortunately Aura Go is indisposed) for this piano and orchestra masterpiece written especially for Corpus Medicorum for their 2018 European Tour and premiered in Thessaloniki, Greece. We are thrilled to welcome Melbournes very own superstar conductor Ben Northey to the podium. 01.01.2022 We may be biased, but we do have some of the most talented Melburnians working for us. Congratulations to RMHs Head of Thoracic Surgery and Lung Cancer Servic...e Mr Phillip Antippa on receiving an Order of Australia Medal for his service to thoracic surgery and music. In addition to being a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, Mr Antippa is also an accomplished viola player, and founded Corpus Medicorum, a Melbourne-based orchestra of doctors, medical students and professionals who raise money to fund lung cancer research. Mr Antippa wasnt the only staff member recognised in this years Australia Day Honours. We also congratulate RMH and The Royal Womens Hospital breast surgeon Associate Professor John Collins on his appointment as Member of the Order of Australia.
