24.01.2022 UooUoonicorn got its glitter today and is ready to see the world.

23.01.2022 So many of my students would appreciate this one.

23.01.2022 Some student examples of our David Hockney inspired underwater paintings. These works all took about 45 mins to complete - for the best result Id allow atleast 1.5hours. These students were all ahead of their classmates so got to give it a try whilst everyone else finished their previous project. The project itself started as an extension of portrait painting.

22.01.2022 I made some simple tea lights for ANZAC day Saturday. The things you do... I plan to place them on the fence pillar just before 6am to honour our fallen soldiers. Recycled plastic bottles. I bent the plastic petals back by turning the cut bottle upside down and splaying the cut petals flat onto the floor and applying some heat with a hairdryer. I used some red paint for the petals and a black paint pen for the stamens, but a black sharpie is fine too. ... I used the top of the bottle to create a wind protection insert - I cut a little up the side to make the size adjustable and allow it to fit into the flower opening. Ill give it a light spray with clear gloss tomorrow incase it rains. Love to see photos if anyone gives this a try. First time I have tried it - dont heat the petals too long, the first ones curled with too much heat. Sorry about the meh photos. I have lots more for anyone needing further instruction.

22.01.2022 Lit up our candle holders for the 6am service. Finished work really late last night and ran out of time to write the names of the 4 police that so tragically lost their lives this week, on my recycled plastic bottle ribbons. Will finish tonight. Lynette Taylor, Glen Humphris, Kevin King and Josh Prestney. We shouldnt forget those that risk their lives to allow us to live in such a beautiful safe country.

22.01.2022 Another Protea to add to the collection.

21.01.2022 Some of the most impressive sculptures from around the world.

21.01.2022 Eucalyptus blossom, black oil pastel (or permanent marker)and liquid watercolour resist. Clearly my working sample had a single branch across the page, but I did encourage personal creativity . We looked closely at mixing colours to create variants in The elements. ie. adding magenta and different shades of browns and greens to the branches. These are a selection of finished works from grade one - grade 5. Last year we created similar using washed Crayola markers on our leaves - they were more realistic.

21.01.2022 The last 2 digitised students art works from our Eucalyptus blossom project. The first is from a green 2 students rough sketch, the second is a talented grade 1. There were so many great compositions for this project.

20.01.2022 Protea Aristata (aristata = sharp-tipped leaves) This is one of South Africas most famous proteas, despite it considered extinct prior to 1953. It looks a bit like a small pine tree, but with stunning flowers. I created this on the iPad using Procreate. ... #beartventurous #thehappiproject #fionatweddle #protea #procreate

20.01.2022 First watercolour picture in since forever. Id change a few things if I could, but it is what it is now. I painted it as a quick exercise last night after concentrating on only digital art recently. I was trying out a new set of watercolours I purchased a few months ago, but have been too busy to try. It falls off the top of the page as it started simply as an exercise to try colour match. Its important to consider composition when planning a piece of finished art. ... This term I had planned to teach lots of bird projects -paintings, printmaking and even a bird puppet. Very disappointing start to term 3. I really hope my kiddos keep practising their skills too. Practice makes perfect.

19.01.2022 Using procreate to glam up a simple photograph. My crazy cat.

19.01.2022 An update on UooUoos progress.

19.01.2022 I’ve taken classes where drawing a dragon was the subject numerous times. This one is a little cuter than usual.

19.01.2022 Lots of projects happening in the after school art classroom yesterday. Here a few of our paper masks. I always miss photographing them all. It was a quick colour mixing lesson before painting a mask and adding extra embellishments with air dry clay. Students had almost complete freedom on this one, and enjoyed it immensely. It is sooo nice to see what they come up with ...definite influences amongst peers though. Lots of similarities between students on the same tables.

17.01.2022 I have been busy sewing face masks this week, so I thought Id post this pic I was working on a couple weeks back. Green is my favourite colour and I really wanted to try water, then a lovely photographer provided this cute pic. My little seal needs more texture, but its getting there. Sometimes you need to take a break to see what you have missed. I was trying to avoid realism but defaulted back to it - its a style mix up now. ... Practise makes perfect and perfectionism kills creativity. Have fun and make art.

17.01.2022 Positive affirmations.

16.01.2022 Last one for the night. This is for David. Now available for FREE download from here...https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Happi-Project

15.01.2022 Mantra for...today, tomorrow...everyday really. I was going to make this all fancy, but after letting it sit around for a week I figured it was better to just ...leave plain and let it speak for itself. I think Im a bit slow at the old hand lettering, and accepted that Im in control of what I draw, so when I feel its time to move on...it is.

15.01.2022 Because you really do matter! Now available for free download from here...https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Happi-Project

14.01.2022 Some hand lettering designs I have drawn on Procreate over the weekend. I have learnt a lot about masking and been creating my own brushes. I felt like a school child using drawing sheets for practising letter shapes. These will go well as stickers for The HAPPI Projects words of wisdom. Ill be sure to post more as the range grows through ISO. ... Hope to see my students design their own soon #thehappiproject

13.01.2022 More eucalypt blossoms. Needed to give myself the same advice I give my students today...stop overthinking and just do it. Must ensure I finish it, not just give up because its too challenging. Procreate is a very different medium, has its challenges; but also has an undo button - winning.

13.01.2022 Update: Sorry I have been so quiet. I have been extra busy working on the sculpture for the Royal Childrens Hospital Art Trail fundraiser. Now that the embargo is over I can post images for you to follow our progress. There is LOTS of painting still needed, then time to add selected motivational and inspiring quotes around the images (yet to be painted). I truly hope the finished sculpture is as fun as it is in our creative imaginations. We have named it UooUoonicorn. ... Let us know what you think and check in for updated progress pics. Stay safe

13.01.2022 My nephew requested a Dragon...so here is Dylan the Dragon. (He named him for me )

13.01.2022 I just finished putting together some templates to help draw a fairy wren. I actually changed the wing a little, but its fine either way. I drew it on my iPad, so will fix the layout up on my computer when I get a chance. I filled the finished shape up with patterns to extend the class. I deliberately left the tail feathers, beak and small other details out of the pattern to ensure students used their own creativity when drawing those features. ... I painted it roughly with a watercolour brush in procreate. I suggest outlining the bird with a permanent marker and colouring with liquid watercolour or just pencils. Let me know what you think...and please feel free to post finished photos to my page to show me what you and or your students come up with. Cheers, Fiona Tweddle See more

12.01.2022 Still no word on when I will be allowed back taking after school art classes unfortunately, but I have found something interesting that looks fantastic for students and their families looking for some creative outlet. As you may know, I have been really busy for some time now completing a sculpture for the Royal Childrens Hospital 150 year Anniversary ArtTrail celebration. Wild in Art collaborated with the RCH to organise the event as its just what they so fantastically... do. Then last night I stumbled apon this fantastic opportunity to design an artwork yourself which will be uploaded to create a HUGE virtual art show. You have lots of designs to choose from, so let your imaginations run wild. I originally submitted my design on one of these templates for selection. Id love it if you posted your finished designs to our Facebook page too. Get creating... See more

11.01.2022 Ive taken classes where drawing a dragon was the subject numerous times. This one is a little cuter than usual.

11.01.2022 Finished and delivered. Be sure to visit the Art Trail between September - November to raise awareness for the Royal Childrens Hospitals 150th Anniversary. There will be 100 unique UooUoo sculptures on the trail between Melbourne and Geelong.

11.01.2022 Almost finished.

10.01.2022 This goes without saying...

10.01.2022 Tried my hand at a more painterly effect of a cockatoo this week. Been a couple of years since I have taught a class to draw a cockatoo...might be time to give it another try. This was created in Procreate - Im still learning

08.01.2022 I came across a photo of this sweet Blue Wren when searching for a little bird to practise on last night. Im still trying to let go a bit and not be so realistic. I basically broke down the shapes and added detail on top. I added a little snow to one image as today is the first day of winter, and it definitely feels like it where I am. Procreate on the iPad Pro. Photo in the comments Fiona Tweddle... #beartventurous #thehappiproject #fionatweddle #procreate #perfectionismkillscreativity #fairywren #practisemakesperfect

08.01.2022 I made some samples for our David Hockney inspired water paintings this week. Lots of examples on Pinterest, but always good to change it up a bit. I made a few mistakes, hence a few changes whilst actually teaching, but the students were impressed and excited regardless. Ie. simple round eyes give a better illusion of underwater, and are much easier for students to draw. More white lines needed for reflections. I also painted the first pic (of the boy)with watercolour wh...en it should have been oil pastel so I could simply paint right over it - gives a better illusion of being under the water. I have working samples as I like to complete infront of the actual students. I also have a more simplified design - no hands involved - as another option for students who found the hands challenging. Ill post the students works soon.

05.01.2022 update on our fundraising sculpture for the Royal Childrens Hospital 150yr Anniversary Art Trail.

05.01.2022 Very creative local farmer/s, lots of effort to entertain passing travellers on the side of the road.

02.01.2022 Trying my hand at abstract on Procreate. Not my strength of style, but...practise makes perfect. Waratah. It isnt finished, and Im not sure it ever will be. Its a shame we dont all have the time to experiment with our art. I know I usually dont. Perfectionism kills creativity...you have to start somewhere.. be brave and try something new.

01.01.2022 Found object art. Simple art with found objects. We used photographs printed in B&W, but I think they would look great if little artists just drew the shape of a head and mixed it up a bit. Hudson was inspired by the thought of Easter approaching BTW, the beard on the middle one is because its an old rabbit
