25.01.2022 This is what happens when you don't change your engine oil. This car has a loud metallic ticking noise coming from the engine. A few hundred dollar service can save you thousands replacing worn or broken parts. Left filter is brand new. Right one is atleast 20 to 30 thousand kms over due. 24.01.2022 A customers 2007 Honda Civic Type R ,that is in for a clutch replacement. During the process of this we found the slave cylinder was on its way out and becoming faulty and also a fault within the gearbox itself. One of the main bearings for the main shaft had collapsed and also the gear for 3rd gear had separated from the main shaft as a result. 2 issues that could have been worse if they had of been missed. 09.01.2022 With the cold snap coming through we have seen a few battery and starting issues becoming more and more common. Batterys dont like the cold thats when the electrical system is under the most stress. Heaters, headlights, wipers and rear demisters all use alot of power. Then the battery in the engine bay gets lots of hot cold cycles everytime the car is started and stopped. Here is a short video of how quick and easy our complimentry battery test works. 07.01.2022 As we are increasingly seeing cars go beyond the recommended service intervals, we thought it would be a idea to share why changing your engine oil is an important thing. The killer of the modern engine is sludge. When oil begins to break down, it is increasing less able to do the hard work of lubricating the engine, Engine oil is made up of numerous additives and detergents (depending on manufacturers recommendations) which lose potency or simply get used up, therefore the... dirty oil can no longer remove and prevent the gunk building up. This gunk or sludge is made up of unburned or partially burnt fuel, aswell as fine metal fragments from component wear and fine dirt or dust particals. Deposts of dirt and debris are carried through the motor with the oil until it finds somewhere to settle, restricting oil flow and causing premature wear on the engine. Oil does not just lubriate. Oil circulates through the engine, between gears and other moving parts, providing protection from metal on metal contact, in the process it absorbs the impact of all that moving metal. All of these conditions quickly destroys the oils viscosity (thickness) which is one of the oils main qualities. Reality vs the owners manual. Engines are being soo damaged by sludge that only engine cleaning and restoration/reconditioning will save them. This is a long and costly process. The ever-widening gaps between scheduled services have unwittingly lulled the average motorist into a sence of false belief the the cars engine will some how survive on its own and it doesnt matter if engine services are over looked or extended Dont let this happen to your car.

06.01.2022 Had a customer in earlier this week who had just come back from a trip across the country! Changing the air and cabin filters, they do a good job stopping all that dirt and dust going into the engine and cabin but also block up! Its a good thing to have but needs to be checked and/or replaced regularly to work efficiently.

05.01.2022 Last week we had another v6 commodore come in for a check engine light. Gave us the diagnostic trouble codes for the timing chain possibly stretched. With 305,000 kms its quite a high possibility. Once pulling the engine covers off we could see oil was everywhere! Also leading us to beleive the PCV was possibly blocked! Adding to the issue of the timing chain issue. Upon pulling apart the motor our thoughts were right. Chains were slack and the PCV was definitely blocked! Aft...er a few hours of cleaning the outside of the engine and inside of the rockercovers and replacing the timing chains, guides and tensioners. We also decided it was a good idea to remove and clean the sump and oil pickup. The pick up looked clean but had alot of gunk and broken guide peices in there. Restricting oil flow which can lead to sever engine damage. The gunk built up inside the engine is caused by lack of oil changes, this car was 10,000kms over due for a service. The gunk then blocks up all the little oil passages and the PCV. Oil changes are crucial part to the longevity of a cars engine. You are much better to have it changed more regularly than stretch it out to the kms recommend on the service sticker or owners log book. 03.01.2022 We had a customer bring in their hyundai i20 complaining that it had lost power, wouldnt idle properly and kept stalling aswell as an engine light. We used the scan tool to find it had logged camshaft position codes and used the live data to see the intake cam was upto 30 out of time with the exhurst cam. Upon removing the rocker cover we quickly found the timing chain had stretched quite alot(first 2 photos), almost to the point of skipping teeth on the sprockets. The chain... tensioner was topped out soo any more stretching and that slack could not be taken up. If this had of happened it could have been catastrophic engine failure. Requiring major repairs. Lucky we found it in time. Replaced the chain and tensioner and guides and had it running like it should(last 2 photos) If you need any timing chain or belt work done come down and have a chat or give us a call. 02.01.2022 COVID-19 First up its important to know that at this point in time its business as usual at Bertlex Motors, however, as the Corona virus is still in its infancy, like everyone else, we do not know how this will affect us being able to provide our vehicle servicing, repairs and roadworthy inspections moving forward. As a group, we are doing everything we can to do our part to ensure our workplace and personnel are geared to minimize transmission wherever possible.
