18.01.2022 We’ve always wanted to bring Between Worlds to Hawai’i for comments from Native Hawaiians. Our aim as creators is to honour Hawaiian culture and the revered historical persons in our story. Yet, we wonder how Hawaiians feel about these representations. We’re delighted to announce that Chuck Gessert, Artistic Director at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea on the Big Island of Hawai’i, will show Between Worlds to the Hawaiian community through a rehearsed presentation of dialogue and son...gs. http://kahilutheatre.org/Home Nick and Gareth will join the week-long rehearsal in July and be on hand to welcome feedback from the reading. Nick has visited Hawai’i twice in recent months promoting the show. Incredibly, he came across contemporary Lono priests whose ancestors greeted James Cook at Kealakekua Bay. Their enthusiasm about the script and helpful suggestions were priceless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLhkCrFZ8E4

12.01.2022 The Queen Arrives! Between Worlds creators have been searching all around Australia for our Hawaiian Queen. As fate would have it, she was found ‘next door’, in Gareth and Nick’s hometown of Newcastle.... We are delighted to welcome Newcastle singer/songwriter/actor Marissa Saroca, to the Between Worlds family. She’ll be on stage 15 & 16 July at ATYP. See you there! MARISSA SAROCA: Marissa Saroca started her career in the industry as a professional musician/singer whilst training at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. She won Best Female Vocals at both the 2005 and 2006 ABC Newcastle Music Awards and was a finalist in the Pop category of the 2012 MusicOz Awards. Marissa is an in demand session singer, having worked for the Austereo Network, countless independent and signed artists, and commercial giants such as Maybelline. As an independent artist she has released two albums, Cheaper Than Therapy (2008) and Boys Write Love Songs Too (2012). Marissa’s training in music theatre began in independent/pro-am theatre in her home town of Newcastle, Australia, with lead roles as ‘Maureen’ in Rent, ‘Gabriella’ in High School Musical, and the Hawaiian goddess ‘Hina’ in the rock opera Shining Isle, the first collaboration of Between Worlds writers Nick Higginbotham and Gareth Hudson. In 2013, Marissa moved to the Philippines when she was chosen to participate in the blind auditions for ABS-CBN’s The Voice of the Philippines. Chosen by industry legend Lea Salonga for Team Lea, Marissa made an unforgettable impact on the show. She then had her debut in professional theatre with featured ensemble roles in Ghost and Shrek for Atlantis Productions in Manila. Marissa is currently working as a full-time professional musician, is in pre-production for her third original album, and will be reprising the role of ‘Maureen’ in Rent (Hunter Drama) later this year.
