Since making his Princess Theatre directing debut at age 17, Danny has been at the centre of Launceston's theatrical life. Please join us for an evening of insight and camaraderie, with the Friends of Theatre North in conversation with Danny Gibson.... Theatre North is extremely pleased to partner with Van Diemen's Band for this concert. 19.01.2022 Please join us in wishing the Princess Theatre the happiest of birthdays! On this evening, exactly 50 years ago, Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck officially marked the change from picture theatre to live performance venue with the words: I declare open this theatre and express great confidence that it is going to play a significant part in the artistic life of Australia and, above all, that it will help to build up here an intelligent, sensitive and receptive a...udience for the best that Australian artists can give to them. The theatre is open. The Australian Ballet performed that night a triple bill of Les Patineurs, Hamlet and Symphony in Gold, with Dame Peggy van Praagh and the legendary Nugget Coombs also speaking. The renowned composer Peter Sculthorpe premiered a new composition: Overture for a Happy Occasion. A Happy Occasion indeed. Theatre North are proud to be custodians of this important community asset, on behalf of the City of Launceston Official, and are equally as proud of Launceston’s intelligent, sensitive and receptive audiences. Happy Birthday! Here’s to another 50 at least!

05.01.2022 Tonight was so special. Theatre North recognised the incredible career of Stephen Grieve - with over 50 years of employment as a Tech at Launceston’s venues. To...night marks the 50th anniversary of live performance at the Princess Theatre Launceston and Steve has been there since the very beginning. I’m so proud to have shared so many memorable moments with Steve (and Malcolm) over the years. The grand. The good. And everything else. What happens on comms is a special bond that you cannot describe. Battling bad health in recent months, Steve was in perfect form tonight. What a legacy! Love where you live. Live where you love. #ShineOnLaunceston #MrGMomentsThatMatter #LoveLaunnie
