16.01.2022 THANK YOU! Its that time of year again where PSA SAS Staff Recognition Week brings the school community together to celebrate your hard work and the incredible contribution you all make. SAS Staff are Worth 100%... During 24-28th August we will be celebrating School Administrative and Support Staff Recognition Week, a time to acknowledge and thank the often unsung heroes in our public schools. Our SAS staff play an important role in the school community. They are often the first people you see when you enter a school and are essential to maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and the community. SAS staff work in school offices, in classrooms and libraries and maintaining and caring for school grounds and buildings. They are often the ones to tend to students when they unwell and they ensure the efficient management of school financial and administration functions. We appreciate their work every week but it is good to take time in this week to reflect on the value of what they do to contribute to the quality of school life.

The goal is to walk, run, or even ride a bike over the weekend to try and complete 5km or more of physical activity, with the winning student receiving a medal. The event is virtual this year and we want everyone whether that be students, teachers or members of our community who wo...uld like to participate to use the hashtag #BHGHSRunningMob online over their socials to link with the event and the school. This is a great initiative for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community with 100% profits from this event proudlysubsidising entry for Indigenous people in this event as well as giving support to grass root Aboriginal health promotion programs and activities run by Spark Health. 14.01.2022 #PositiveHighlightsfrom2020... Last year, as part of their GnT class, four high potential students entered the state wide "Me, My Culture and NSW" competition. The competition focused on celebrating diversity and battling racism, and allowed students to produce a film, photography or a piece of writing reflecting on these ideas. The four students (now in Year 11); Khadija Hoque, Linh Nguyen, Marzia Mahzabin and Maryam Rizwan ended up winning first prize in the competition!... See and read about their submission below! "We have created a collage to depict the evolution of diversity and inclusion in Australia, showcasing our racist past and our inclusive present. We divided the collage into four different posters. The first picture shows the discrimination toward a specific group of gender and culture, the girl being the victim of the unfairness. Her sad eyes show disappointment and anger. The darkness in the first picture symbolizes the lack of understanding for different cultures and acceptance for anyone that wasn’t considered to be mainstream Aussie. But the second and third pictures show the change when the colour starts spreading. The girl in the picture takes off her glasses, wipes them clean and puts them back on. It showcases the change in Australia, as we begin to fight racism and have a policy of inclusion, represented through the colour. The fourth picture is completely in colour, showcasing the diversity of Australia nowadays. The girl can smile, feeling a sense of belonging in her country that is multicultural, accepting, and diverse."

13.01.2022 English teacher joke of the day... The past, present and future walked into a room...man it was tense.

12.01.2022 As part of Reconciliation Week and the Year 10 Rights and Freedoms course, students have been viewing the ABC film Mabo. The film follows the life of Torres Strait Islander Eddie Koiki Mabo in his fight against the Australian High Court for Native Title. Learning about the High Court Mabo case is at the heart of the journey for our students to build an understanding of what Reconciliation Week commemorates whilst enabling relationships between our students and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. #NRW2020 #InThisTogether2020

12.01.2022 Happy Birthday to the amazing Munir!! We hope you have a wonderful Birthday! Thank you for all of the hard work you put in everyday!

11.01.2022 A group of students in Year 10 and 11 have put together an amazing initiative that you can read more about below. Click on the link below to visit the website theyve put together for their short film competition! Film is a powerful tool to be able to communicate the issues that we care about. I believe that all of us (young people) have our own stories that need to be told and that is the reason why we created this platform. Our school is culturally diverse with students c...oming from a lot of backgrounds. This is a great opportunity for students to participate and emphasise the diversity of Australia. http://ctnfestival.com/ (Here is the website of the project) And our team will use the poster to promote for the competition

Our Year 7 students, as part of the Ancient World unit in History took part, by creating some dot paintings that told a story in their own way.

04.01.2022 Last week’s NAIDOC Week was a huge success as we dedicated the week to celebrating the history, culture and achievements of First Nation peoples. We had young Indigenous artists such as Tia Gostelow, Baker Boy and Thelma Plum playing over the speakers all week, cool book displays in the library showcasing some amazing Indigenous authors and a poster competition which was to incorporate this year’s theme of ‘Always was, always will be.’ The posters were outstanding and showed the creative talent we have at BHGHS, please have a look for yourself!

02.01.2022 Vale Colleen Mary Condon Colleen or Col to most at Beverly Hills Girls High School, passed away on 12/10/2020. She was the life and soul of the Administration Office and school starting her career in 1975 and retired in 2005. Her cheeky personality and kindness are the most important qualities that Colleen left for us to remember her by. She was a very wise woman offering subtle advice to staff and students alike.... Colleen Mary has left this world a better place and will be missed by many.
