25.01.2022 THERES MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK? 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to R U OK? Day the campaign has been running to help Australians know what to say when someone says theyre not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. You dont have to be an expert to ...keep the conversation going when someone says theyre not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before theyre in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. So whether it be your friends, family or even a stranger dont forget to ask the one question that could save someones life: R U OK? Watch the link below and see how you can make a difference. https://youtu.be/erHLP29tzPE

13.01.2022 Are you having problems with Blackboard Collaborate Ultra? Our IT Officer has discussed this with the Service Centre and they said they are aware of a few intermittent errors that they are trying to resolve. Some pointers:... For Windows: Chrome is the recommended browser but needs to be version 81,83 or newer. If chrome is not working download and try Firefox https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ For Mac: Safari is the recommended browser but if that isnt working try Chrome or Firefox For iPad: Safari is the recommended browser but if that isnt working try Chrome or Firefox For Android: Chrome is the recommended browser but needs to be version 81,83 or newer. If that fails download firefox from the App store. Basically, if a browser doesnt work, try another one. Firefox will fix most of the problems occurring in Chrome and vice versa. Also Ultra is a more sensitive to slow internet speeds so try and close any other devices using the internet if this is a problem. Also try to clear the cache in the web browser, restart the computer and router. Also try running a network cable directly from the modem / router to the computer as Ultra will run better over a wired connection than a wireless connection. And finally remember, dont give up!

10.01.2022 This is a national day to acknowledge the role working parents and governesses play in delivering public education to students in remote locations. Most people don’t understand the commitment isolated families make to access an education in the bush said NT State President, Sarah Cook. It is a government requirement that school of the air and distance education students are supervised in the home school room. The school of the air teacher will only deliver a few online less...ons each a day, at best. For the remainder of the school day the supervisor must physically deliver the lesson materials, support the student, undertake planning and preparation, behavioural supervision, scaffolding, problem solving, explicit teaching, marking, teacher liaison and feedback, among other responsibilities. Working parents (predominantly mothers) in geographically isolated areas take on this role, by necessity. If they cannot provide this supervision themselves, they must pay someone to fulfil that requirement. Either way, there is no subsidy and no support from government for the delivery of public education in these circumstances. It is not an equitable requirement by government and ICPA have been advocating for a subsidy towards these costs for years said Sarah Cook. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said parents should not have to choose between their employment and educating their children. He was commenting on the COVID-19 pandemic, when families across Australia, across the world, had no choice but to educate their children at home. Most people don’t realise families in geographically isolated areas of Australia are forced to make this choice, regardless of pandemics. A national day will highlight the contribution, the compromise and the cost, these families’ bear towards the delivery of a public education said Sarah Cook. Geographically Isolated* Distance Education Day is on the 1st of December. ICPA NT invites Territorians to express their support for distance education students and families, including using ICPA’s temporary profile picture frame.
