09.01.2022 Meet Julie Bartholomew (ceramics artist), the Winner of 2019 BigCi Anniversary Award, at our Open Day this Sunday 1 November, 11-4. Habitat, Julie’s project at BigCi aims to bring greater visibility to bee populations, foreground the importance of Wollemi National Park as an inspirational environment, and generate visually striking architectural structures for bees. She constructed a series of clay prototype designs for larger habitable bee structures. Research sourced from ...local apiarists and the aesthetic features of Wollemi National Park inspired innovative bee habitat that will help counter threats to biodiversity caused by climate change and urbanisation. Three other artists take part in the Open Day: Rae Bolotin (sculpture, installation, performance), Melissa Anastasi (film director and writer), and Luke Foster (drawing, video, installation).
