25.01.2022 Why??? Because it's week 10, term 3 of 2020. That's why.Why??? Because it's week 10, term 3 of 2020. That's why.

23.01.2022 Ive been reflecting a lot lately Through that reflection and with some fab inspo around me, Ive decided to completely overhaul the structure of my sessions. Similar to my own morning practice and how I start most days, sessions now begin with goal-setting for what we are hoping to achieve during the hour ahead and a quick talk about anything that is holding my clients back from achieving these goals.... Then we spend a few minutes doing a quick meditation, starting off with some deep breathing, then moving onto some visualisations about what it will feel like to achieve these goals, while breathing away any blockages and saying some positive affirmations. Most blockages come from fear, so Ive been encouraging my students to face these fears head on, rather than avoiding them. I always say to them Id rather that you have a go and make a mistake, than just not try at all. And lately Ive been thinking about where I need to take my own advice. I used to write so many stories when I was younger, and at some point I stopped. So Im challenging myself this week to start writing again.just for fun, with no bigger intention than to just create and have fun doing it. And I want to invite you to join me in also doing something that scares you a bit, face the fear head on and be brave enough to make a few mistakes along the way. After all, the kids around us are looking to us an example. Lets be the best examples we can be! Feel free to share your fear-challenging goal with me when we bump into each other...I'd love to hear how you go. Oh and p.s. - this is another preview of the Blossom Cards: affirmation cards for kids and families - COMING SOON! Send me your email address to receive a one-off discount code that will only be available for 48 hours once these beauties are released. #affirmationcardsforkids #affirmations #challengeyourself #mindset #facethefear #positiveaffirmations #meditation

16.01.2022 This photo is blurry, poor quality and honestly a pretty good reflection of my photography skills (minimal ), but its one of my favourite photos of myself because it reminds me of something very important. When I was 24, I sold both of my businesses that I had put my heart and soul into creating. Id found passionate and caring people to take them over and I made the decision to go solo backpacking through Asia indefinitely in a quest to find myself (sounds cheesy,... but if youve ever done it, you know how soul-filling it is). This time overseas, with no commitments, no one expecting anything of me and no one to report to or look after except for myself was without a doubt one of the best things I have ever done. Having gone straight from school to uni at the age of 17, graduating at the age of 19 with two degrees, then straight into my first job, and then onto starting two businesses at the age of 21 (while doing further post-graduate studies), I was (in hindsight) completely burnt out, at the mere age of 24. Having suffered from Bells Palsy and not recovering, I decided it was time to look after me and take the pressure off for a while. I learned how to feel pure content in the simple moments. Watching a little kid playing with his puppy, or chatting to locals and learning from them, to camping on beaches in hammocks under the stars with nothing and no one else. It was a time of pure joy. That time with myself helped me realise what is truly important (to me). I spent months with families that we as a western society would label as living in poverty and began to understand them instead as people who are, in my eyes, some of the richest people. They live a life that does not centre around money, achievements and productivity. Instead they seem to cherish laughter, connection and a simple, slow life. I spent time with children as young as 4 years old who were on the streets selling their jewellery and other creations in an attempt to contribute towards food for their family. They were innocent, gorgeous humans, who were genuinely happy, despite the poverty. And in those moments, I figured out what life is all about for me and promised myself to never forget what truly matters. See more

15.01.2022 And while we are trying to work out the best way that they can learn, we must be kind, compassionate and patient towards them A gorgeous teacher once said to me: Love them and they will learn. #onlinetutor #onlinetutoring #toowoombatutor #brisbanetutor #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning

14.01.2022 Love yourself so much that you can love others without barriers and without judgement. by @cleowade

14.01.2022 Gosh it makes me happy to see people choosing courage over fear! The kids who are finding the courage to raise their hand in class and ask more questions in front of their peers. The people who are sharing their talents and their voices, overcoming their fear of judgement and criticism. The ones who are choosing a new path or a different way of doing things and showing others that its okay to break the mould. I cherish and celebrate every single one of you!... The Blossom House mantra for May is: I choose courage over fear. See more

10.01.2022 AHEAD WITH INITIALIT | A great article in The Australian on evidence-based early reading instruction. We are one of the early adopters of InitiaLit in QLD, ope...ning our doors to schools around the State to visit and learn how we have implemented the program. At TAS, we can confidently say that we have adopted the key example of the movement towards systematic synthetic phonics programs, and we are at the forefront of this shift in our approach to reading. If you would like to learn more about our use of InitiaLit to give students an excellent foundation to their learning, please get in contact for a tour. We would be proud to show you the progress our students are making. https://bit.ly/3cQ7wqL

10.01.2022 Hi there The last time I shared this photo, I had a different last name (I got married late last year ), so I wanted to pop on and introduce myself again: now as Alex Hede! Thank you so much to everyone who has followed this page and supported my business over the last 8 months. Its been incredible stepping completely away from the corporate world and entirely into my passion and where my heart is really at. ... Its been such a pleasure getting to know all of my students and watching them blossom along the way. Ive been tutoring since I was 17 and was trained by qualified teachers who had 30+ years experience. What I learnt back then, along with all of my experience in between, has made me really confident that I can help a lot of children! Im really passionate about helping to shift the mindset of my students to empower them to feel confident within themselves and their abilities. Due to limited available hours outside of school time, I can only take on a certain amount of students. I announced last week that I would be putting the prices up on my sessions for any new bookings, as of 27 May. Prices will remain the same for sessions with my tutors and sessions with my existing clients. Since I get so much energy from doing this kind of work, I have decided to extend my available hours slightly and can now offer a space to 2 more students, so book in prior to 27 May to make the most of the current pricing. 09.01.2022 Next time you nurture a dysregulated child, notice how breathing and heart rate decrease, and the body relaxes as they enter into a calmer biological and emotio...nal state. How we respond *most* of the time builds resilience against how we may respond some of the time, when we too are dysregulated. A sincere apology and improved responses go a long way in modeling how to repair relational rupture. Which is inevitable. We all need relational safety to grow in emotional resilience. I think people struggle the most when they feel alone in their emotions. When they have no-one they trust to share their thoughts and dreams with, or empathize with their most uncomfortable feelings, mistakes and experiences. Having a trustful compassionate person to share your true feelings with is life-changing. It can be life-saving. Parents and caregivers are this safe place for children to empty out their hurts and fill up their love tank. It makes sense for them to find their own trusted adult people in order to unearth peaceful practices and become their own safe place too. We all need to empty our hurts and fill our love tanks in ways that promote wellbeing. It's never too late to learn and practice how. Lelia. 05.01.2022 TIPS FOR STORY TIME Your child is still in the midst of learning how to become a confident reader and I hear you - its sometimes not easy getting them to read with you at home. Here are a few things to try out: Let your child pick the book. Even if its something they have read a gazillion times, the familiarity of the words is comforting and confidence-building for many young kids. ... Start off by using your finger as a pointer underneath the word that they are reading. When they get the word correct, move your finger to the next word. This saves you from the temptation of verbally having to correct them if they are missing words or sometimes guessing and getting it wrong. For kids who learn more visually, this will be much more effective. It will also help them to avoid rushing. Help them to break unknown words into chunks of different sounds. For each sound they decipher, help them to chunk it onto the prior sound, until the entire word has been done. For example: the word chin would be chunked into ch and in, rather than individual letters being sounded out. Encourage your child to put the sounds together as they go along. So rocketship would be rock, then et then ship, but can be brought together by saying rock, then rocket, then rocketship. You can use your finger to block out the other letters until your child has the first sound worked out. Jack Hartmann has a great YouTube video for your kids to learn about this if they prefer videos rather than verbal explanations. If your child is taking a while to sound out a word, its often helpful to get them to read from the start of the sentence again once theyve worked out the word, to help keep the flow of the story going and to keep them engaged in what they are reading. Alternatively, you can remind them of what the sentence had already read up to that point and then let them carry on again. If you notice that they are losing patience, take it in turns to read the next sentence or the next page. Using your finger still as the pointer will help your child to follow along and look at the words that you are reading to them. Hope this helps

05.01.2022 What you focus on grows. What are you focusing on right now?

04.01.2022 Never eat soggy weet-bix - North, East, South, West Big elephants can always understand small elephants - to help children remember how to spell because My very easy memory jingle seems useful naming planets - self explanatory These were some of the little tricks that I was taught when I was younger that have stuck with me many years later (I still very quietly whisper to myself never eat soggy weet-bix whenever Im working out directions ). Brainstorming new memory prompts with my students is such a fun way to involve them in what they are learning. What little memory tricks have stuck with you since you were a kid? Let me know next time we bump into each other

01.01.2022 Most of you who know me would know that Im fairly shy and reserved, but for this podcast with @kristygray__ from the Kristy Unedited podcast, I opened up about some really deep topics, like what it was like getting Bells Palsy at such a young age and the ripple effect of going through a terrifying experience only a few years later. We spoke about what some of these experiences did for my confidence levels, the lessons I learned along the way and how its all shaped me and my intention for Blossom House. I feel vulnerable as all hell getting outside my comfort zone like this but I hope some of what we talked about will resonate and maybe some of you will relate to that feeling of hitting some rock-bottom moments in life and the strength and confidence that can be gained from some of lifes trickier times
