25.01.2022 A problem I often get asked about.
23.01.2022 On a first day of spring we go out looking for any signs of spring in our neighbourhood. Through this simple experience children get connected to the closest community and the natural world around them.
23.01.2022 Yesterday, children came up with some ideas of how to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day - throw confetti, paint on trees, make a cake, make stick boats. Here is what we have managed to do. We have also read many books taking us closer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. #KidsConnectedtoCulture

22.01.2022 It's not too late to plant some edible flowers in pots, edges of flowerbeds and in this unused space by the fence. So much fun for little people plus they come handy when you run out of sprinkles for decorating cupcakes!
22.01.2022 Scrambled eggs is something we have not done at Blossom yet. I cant believe it! Eggs any way are my absolute favourite food in the world. Have your children done it independently?

20.01.2022 It was a sewing day today at Blossom. Sewing skills are a big part of practical life curriculum in Montessori. Its one of those little skills you need in most unexpected situations or use it professionally. Either way worth having!

18.01.2022 Hours spent looking through different factual books and discussing nature and prehistoric life: Lets find Pangea, Bones can turn into stones, Lets talk about the size, this one is bigger than a person. Factual books and magazines are invaluable resources for extending childrens understanding of the world.
17.01.2022 The picture below shows Amy Rowntrees Elizabeth Street Practising School and was taken in 1917 in Hobart. At that time infant education in Tasmania, as it was called then, was undergoing big reforms and was considered as progressive. Moving teachers from the front of the classroom to a little corner, as you can see on the picture, to blend with the walls and not disturb the children must have been mind blowing adaptation.
17.01.2022 Refining skills comes in different ways in the Montessori environment. Always at individual pace.
17.01.2022 Feel free to nominate your favourite family day care educator

13.01.2022 NAIDOC week is nearly over and here is what we did to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture. We have learned so much and will keep exploring and learning. We’ve been lucky to have knowledgeable parent telling us fascinating story about Kuniya which is written in the landscape of Uluru. Children had an idea of making their own paints with whatever they could find in the garden and painting on rocks. We explored what food was traditionally eaten here in Tasmania and had a go at weaving with plants. We painted big Rainbow Serpent as pictured in this year NAIDOC week poster artwork, read many stories and talked and talked about living in harmony with nature. #NAIDOC2020

11.01.2022 Muwinina Country is a travelling book presented along the Hobart Rivulet Track. It's a child-friendly history lesson about the first contact in nipaluna [Hobar...t] (told in both palawa kani and English), presented across 5 panels along an 800m stretch of the track. There is also an audiobook available via a link on the panels, so you can make it a truly immersive experience. What a great way to help your kids learn about the First Nations people of nipaluna and experience palawa kani. #LearnersFirst #TasGovEducation #NAIDOCWeek
