25.01.2022 It has been a lazy, hot old Sunday here today...... and these girls are just taking it easy !

19.01.2022 It was back to mustering this week as we drafted out steers to truck out and also drafted up some commercial breeder paddocks. The cloud banks looked impressive up in the sky , but the prospect of more rain is not very promising at the moment! The wind has been gusting all week and although the appearance of some green in the paddocks has been welcomed, more rain cannot come soon enough .... to keep the growth going !

18.01.2022 It is the 'bewitching hour" in the paddock! The heat of the day has gone, most of the cows are out grazing in the cool of the late afternoon as the sun is sinking low and the calves are left to their own devices under the watchful eye of a few "mums on duty"! Just like "human kids" , some find new and interesting things to play with and explore amongst the fallen branches, some sit and chill, some watch the world go by quietly, while others observe and evaluate the situation !!! .....Until the mothers decide to 'hot foot' it back to make sure all is well at the nursery, and the mob moves off to the trough and eventually up to higher ground for the night.

17.01.2022 We had stunning storm clouds hovering over the breeder paddocks all day long today but not a drop of rain fell down this way ! Cant be too disappointed however as we had a good shower up in the scrub country . These girls looked pretty relaxed as they soaked up the scenery !

16.01.2022 There is no denying that smoke can enhance a sunset! It seems the cows were also enjoying the colours of the sky tonight as they settled on a hill for the night in full view of the sky to the west ! Back at home , the horses also had a magnificent backdrop.

16.01.2022 Saw this 'one very theatrical' young calf today standing proudly on the tractor loading ramp and proceeded to have his moment 'on stage' ! Mum , however, had different ideas and decided to put an end to her "show-ff" young bull's moment by nudging him unceremoniously off the stage and back to the other calves! It was such a "human" sequence of events ! Just disappointed I failed to catch him in mid-flight off the stage ! #showoffcalf #theworldisastage

14.01.2022 The calves were in a rush to come and talk tonight...full of bounce and full of energy before settling down and crowding around to say hello! Spending a few moments with the calves really is a delightful way to finish the working day.

14.01.2022 Smoky skies and happy calves late this afternoon

13.01.2022 One of the major jobs that needs to be carried out every year on the large tracts of Forestry Leashold land at the far end of our property, is the controlled burning of at least a few of these large blocks to reduce the fuel load in the understory of the timber ,so that major fires may be averted when the real heat of summer and the possibility of lightning strikes is high. Last week, following some useful rain,a couple of planned fires were initiated, the first with a 13 ...kilometre perimiter and the second a similar size. Hence this week, and for the best part of the week to come, it is a case of pre-sunrise patrolling of the fire and backburning where necessary until the sun goes down and the heat dissipates.....Time consuming, hot, smoky and ongoing, but very necessary with the added benefits of fresher feed for the cattle that run here for part of the year. 09.01.2022 Over the past week, we have been gradually getting the bulls back in to the breeder paddocks. Most are happily settled in now and the last were trucked out today..... 'Boogalgopal Casual Glance' out to a heifer group and our latest purchase from Palgrove (Palgrove Perfecto) headed out to a brahman breeder paddock. Carting of hay to top up the supply in the hay sheds was also carried out this week.

09.01.2022 A lone cow,her baby calf, plus "a minder' wend their way slowly up the hills towards the rest of the mob, while a smoky sun sets in the distance.

06.01.2022 It HAD been a long hot day up the paddock...... butI was a bit puzzled to see this apparition floating out in the trees as we drove past !! #ufo #alwaysanexplanation Simple when you think about it !

05.01.2022 Weekend jobs included the usual run around the different parts of the property, checking waters, checking cattle, putting out supplement , chaffing more lucerne hay for the horses , delivering bulls and some time out for a swim and a cuppa with friends.Still waiting for La Nina !!
