25.01.2022 Stress. Anxiety. Depression. Many of the clients we see mention these issues as (at least part of) the reason they are coming to me. I love working with these clients because I believe Bowen can significantly help improve their well-being and facilitate healing at a deep level. The ability of Bowen to help shift us from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic is something we, as practitioners, have all seen and possibly experienced ourselves. Helping the body to... remember a non-stressed state is imperative to forming new pathways for healing. Stress and anxiety may be the primary reason for booking the appointment, but often these same clients present with back pain, neck discomfort, jaw issues or headaches. I am interested in the links between the non-physical symptoms (stress and anxiety), how they present physically in the body and how we, as Bowen practitioners, can help. If we look at what happens when we are stressed or anxious, the first thing which comes to my mind is that we stop breathing fully - I mean that type of full-belly breath which expands our diaphragm and abdomen and keeps us centred (and grounded) - and we replace it with apical breathing. Our breathing becomes more shallow and occurs higher in our chest. This type of breathing is seen in those with less than efficient breathing patterns, such as people who are asthmatic, smoke, are stressed, or exhibit poor posture. The continued use of apical breathing places quite a bit of stress and strain on the scalenes and SCM, and can lead to chronic pain in our upper back, neck, jaw and shoulders. So we start to see the importance of breathing fully using our diaphragm to help ease off the pressure on the neck muscles. I invite you to have a couple of Bowen Therapy sessions and see the difference in your over all well-being when we release and reset he muscle tension in your body. Breathing easier, better posture, releasing pain and anxiety are just some of the benefits you will enjoy. After all if we never serviced our car how long do you think it would go before it started to sieze up and eventually give up the ghost. Take control of your health and well-being, you deserve better than neglect get yourself back on track and I’ll see you at The Gnostic Healing Centre for a Bowen Therapy Realignment Lovely having a chat with you and see you soon. Cheers and warm regards wayne. See more
