25.01.2022 We have over 20 parents attended our '3 & 4 Years Old Group Information Session' yesterday. We truly appreciate the collaboration between parents and educators in supporting children's learning and development in the service. This is the key contributor towards successful learning outcomes. Look forward to many more opportunities to connect with our families!!

25.01.2022 Teaching children to be resourceful is a very empowering tool to prepare them for life. Children will develop self-confident and problem-solving skills as a result of engaging in activities that require resourcefulness. Starbucks children were engaged in a building project which required them to use a wide range of resources and brainstorm strategies which lead to solutions. This experience not only helped children gain creativity and persistence but also enabled children to use their strengths to make contribution.

24.01.2022 As landfills are filling up and raw resources are depleting, recycling is becoming more imminent. In kinder, we always plan activities for children to enhance knowledge about sustainability. As a part of our sustainable focus, we decided to look at how paper is made. In the past few weeks, our kinder children were very busy creating handmade paper. Before implementing the project, the children learnt the meaning of reuse, reduce and recycle through day-to-day experiences. Th...ey started by collecting old paper, breaking the paper into smaller pieces by tearing and cutting. Mrs Amada (our science teacher) brought in a paper shredder machine to introduce another means where paper can be shred. The children had lots of fun exploring with paper pulp, transferring them into different containers. This experience helped them develop their motor and sorting skills. Finally, they divided the paper pulp into batches and added flower petals to decorate it. By participating in this project children have the first-hand experience on how to use recycled paper to effectively preserve trees and vegetations. See more

24.01.2022 Our Beamers children celebrated Remembrance day as a very important day in our Australian history. During group time, educators taught the children the significance of this special day and why people wear poppies as memorial of the fallen soldiers and to recognise the bravery of past and present soldiers. To help children to gain deeper understanding and respect for the war heroes, they created a poppy craft through drawing and pasting. Educators displayed the poster on the rooms wall to help remind children of what they have learned.

24.01.2022 Destination Moon: more missions, more science is the school theme for National Science Week in 2019. In Starbucks Senior, the children were provided with a wide range of experiences to explore the facts of planets. The children were curious to learn about the number of planets in the solar system and their names. They also learned about the impacts of asteroids when colliding with the planets. To extend the learning experiences, we watched a video about how the astronauts wo...rk in a spacecraft. The children engaged in dramatic astronauts play by crawling through the tunnel. They looked at photos of the moon, moon crater and used aluminium foil to create moon rocks A lot of vocabulary and science knowledge were developed through this simple project. The children are very keen to explore other relevant topics and concepts such as space suit, zero gravity, and why the moon looks different throughout the months. This science topic has actively engaged children in applying concepts such as hypothesising, researching and investigating information and knowledge. See more

24.01.2022 On 1st August, our Beamers Junior children went on an excursion to the nearby Napier Park to celebrate the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day. Educators made Aboriginal fishcake with the children in preparation for the excursion lunch. The children mashed the cooked potatoes and mixed it with fish. Then the children rolled the mixed into round balls and baked in oven. We were very blessed to have 3 parent helpers to join us, walking the children to th...e park. Everyone sat down on the mat and the educators began to share about how the Aboriginal people live in the bush. After that, we read an Aboriginal story with the children. The children walked around the park and explored the nature. We collected a lot of natural materials and the children shared what they observed with one another. After that we all had a picnic lunch together. Everyone seemed to have fun and enjoyed this special first time excursion experience! See more

22.01.2022 Our Twinklers are exploring different shapes and colours. The babies learn how to hold the stamps holder and do the stamping motion on paper. While the children engaged in the activity, educators talked to them about square, flower and rectangle shapes that they made on the paper as well as the colours; red, blue and purple. Our babies have not only enjoyed creating their own shapes, they also enjoyed the texture of the paint and mixing the colours with their fingers. What a fun and rich experience!

22.01.2022 Science Experiment - Making Volcano in SBJ In celebration of Science Week, we have decided to make our own Volcano. This experience was planned in response to Aidens interest in volcanos which he shared with peers. Over the last 2 weeks, we have been discussing with the children what a volcano is like and have used our Tablet to look up for images of volcanos. The children learned about what volcanoes are and explored how to make our own volcano. Miss Kelly provided the chil...dren with opportunities to explore images of different volcanoes using the Tablet, exploring and discussing with them how the lava melted rock and how it comes up out of the ground. We discussed the ingredients needed to make our very own volcano. By discussing these ingredients, children found that vinegar has a strong smell. It was great to watch the childrens facial expressions change as they reacted to the strong scent of the vinegar. All the children watched in anticipation as the ingredients were added to our volcano as we passed it around to allow everyone a chance to see the water, dye, dish soap and bicarb soda. There was lots of excitement as we watched the foamy yellow and red lava pour out of the top of our volcano mound. After the foam (Lava) had finished spilling out we talked about how if it was a real volcano the lava would be very hot. Miss Kelly asked if the children wanted to see if they can move the lava by blowing it like the wind blows the water. We concluded that the children have a strong interest in seeing how their world works and would enjoy further experiments learning what happens when we mix different ingredients together. We will try making some other science experiments in the coming weeks. See more

22.01.2022 The Starbucks Junior children have shown a strong interest in tools and how they work. We have begun a group project to learn to use some tools such as screw drivers and hammers. This experience supports EYLF Learning outcome 4.4. The children explored the purpose and function of a range of tools as they manipulate resources to investigate, take apart, assemble, invent and construct. We have also been exploring pre-writing skills as we discussed how to use our chalk and penci...ls/pens to make marks on our page. We applied intentional teaching opportunities to show the children in small groups how to copy the Aboriginal Symbols and what they mean using chalk on a chalk board. At our writing table, we have included some stickers to enhance conversations and made some name cards for children to explore writing their own name to extend on current interest which supports EYLF Learning Outcome 5. The children developed an understanding that symbols are powerful means of communication. Ideas, thoughts and concepts can be represented through them. See more

21.01.2022 In Kindergarten room, we discussed the importance to preserve trees and the effect of not having enough trees around. As part of a sustainable community, our childen learn to transform recyclable paper to re-useable paper. This experience involved children tearing used paper into pieces, soaking it in water, pulling it, using a whisk to stir, then placing it on a piece of cloth and sponging the excess water from the paper while another child rolled the used paper into a flat ...piece. They worked together in team to achieve a common goal which was creating the new paper and learning to care for the environment. We noticed that children connect with the world by taking responsibility in caring for their environment. By having children engaged in sustainable environment, it enables them to work on their critical thinking. This experience also enhances fine motor skills through motions such as tearing, pulling apart, rolling and squeezing. It also encourages teamwork as the children show interest to work with peers and to be a part of a group. See more

21.01.2022 After much discussion about the impact of recent bushfire had on people and wildlife, the children and educators have decided to help raise fund to support the bushfire victims. We have created many pieces of beautiful artwork to sell to families. Thanks to all our generous parents, the children have raised $540 to be donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal where 100% of all donations is directed to the communities in need. We are extremely proud of our community who have exhibited such spirit of generosity in supporting our fellow Australians in this challenging time. In fact many have already donated on separate accounts. Well done everyone!!

20.01.2022 Our Sunshine Kinders were so fortunate to celebrate Aboriginal Childrens Day with the Wurundjeri Elder Ian Hunter. We met him at Valley Reserve in Mount Waverley and the beautiful outback was just fascinating and captivating. Ian explained how traditions and customs are passed down from generation to generation. He described his family tree with photos and explained how we are all different, having different skin colour, hair and eyes. Children also learned about the use of... native plants and animals for meals and how they are cooked with mud. The children also learned some aboriginal dance steps, while tapping along with claves. The highlight of the day was when we got to see how a boomerang was thrown and return at the same instance. By participating in this excursion the children developed knowledge, respect and understanding of the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander cultures and history. At the end of the session, the children had lots of fun playing in the Valley Reserve playground. See more

20.01.2022 Another year has gone so quickly, its time to say goodbye to our kindergarten children. To celebrate the achievement of these amazing children, we have planned very special graduation and Christmas concert to commemorate them. This celebration helped to build a sense of achievement and positive self-esteem for the children. Thank you to all of our lovely families who had participated in our end of year concert & graduation. It was such a great event at Bright ELC Kindergarten. Good luck and best wishes to all the children attending the big school in 2020. Wishing all our families a safe and Merry Christmas and happy 2020!

19.01.2022 The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for families to gather together. One of the most common ways to celebrate is by eating moon cakes a dense, sweet pastry thats baked or steamed and usually enjoyed with tea. In early September, we were delighted to host a special afternoon tea to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with children and families. Our aim for the celebration is to broaden childrens learning opportunity and to create a sense of belonging and community. Leading up to t...he event, our centre cook; Miss Kazuko taught the children to make moon cakes with the room educators. It was great to see some of children came with their cultural outfit and families brought along their cultural moon cakes to share. Our children enjoyed making lanterns with their parents too. It was a wonderful and memorial experience for children and parents to embrace this cultural event together. See more

19.01.2022 The Beamers Senior children made some gingerbread man cookies for last week Christmas party. The children followed the instruction; mixing the dough, rolling it and using the gingerbread man cutter to cut out the shapes. They also went to the kitchen to see how the cookies change colours as they were baking in the oven. After the Christmas concert, everyone had gingerbread man cookies for afternoon tea. The children had great fun. It was indeed a wonderful experience for all

18.01.2022 On Naidoc week, the children in Beamers Junior did some dot painting on rocks and leaves using Aboriginal colours. Firstly they used the paint brush to paint on the rocks and leaves. Then they started using their hands to paint and some used their fingers to create the dot painting. They were engaged in the experience and had lots of fun. Educators initiated some intentional teaching to help children developed some basic understanding on the Aboriginal culture besides extending their imaginative and creative skills.

16.01.2022 Beamers Senior celebrated Childrens Book Week and our educators planned experiences to help children cultivate interest in reading. The children are keen with The Very Hungry Caterpillar story and educators intentionally picked the childrens favourite books and read during group time. To reinforce learning, educators also prepared some art and craft activities relating to the subject and taught the children some new songs about caterpillars. In the learning journey, chil...dren also explored colours and had a great time. In the craft session, the children applied their fine motor skills to hold the plastic bottle, dipped in paints and print the image of a caterpillar. Reading books helps children stimulate their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It fosters language development and encourages listening skills. It also provides a platform to understand written words and eventually reading. See more

15.01.2022 Our Twinklers were getting their hands messy on Naidoc artwork experience. Our babies were learning to create the masterpiece through hands on painting using aboriginal colours on a piece of sack cloth. Through this artwork, our children has learned the mixing of the colours, the exploring of different materials, learned to wait for their turn and observe how their peers carrying out this artwork together.

14.01.2022 Our recent staff outing to celebrate Lunar New Year. Everyone had a good variety of yummy Chinese New Year cuisines which is something extraordinary. Above all else, a good amount of fun and laughter too!! Look forward to another to come . . .

14.01.2022 To extend childrens learning outside the service and to learn about different occupations in our community, we had an excursion to visit Trinity for Hair and Kerrie Road Bakery Caf. We received a very warm welcome from the manager of Trinity for Hair. She talked to the children about the importance of caring for their hair. He also showed children the hairstyling tools which include hair dryers, hairbrushes (both flat and round), hair rollers, diffusers and various types of... scissors. After visiting Trinity for Hair, the children went to Kerrie Road Bakery Caf. The manager Michelle showed children a variety of bakery products and we bought chocolate muffins for afternoon tea. The excursion experience has successfully broaden childrens understanding of the community and allowed them to discover and explore interaction and connections amongst people. See more

14.01.2022 Yesterday was our very first arts and craft class. We did some rock painting and the children were shown some examples of what could be painted on rocks; such as owls, funny faces, ladybugs, dinosaurs, easter eggs etc. Everyone was given one rock, some colourful paint and a brush to create their masterpieces. The children had fun mixing the colours, making all sorts of shapes and mixing so many colours together that they think may create one newly discovered colour!! We had great fun and we all learned that painting on something other than paper is also possible and feels very different when applying the paint. The children were thrilled with the results of their efforts and should be able to take their rocks home in a few days once the many layers applied have dried.

12.01.2022 Last Saturday, we have a "Busy Beavers Workshop" with a group of special families coming together, helping to revamp and clean up the childrens outdoor play ground. Both parents, children and educators worked tirelessly to transform the play space, making it more inviting and effective for the children. Just want to say a big "Thank You" to all who have sacrificed their beautiful sunny morning for this very special cause. After all the hard work, we shared a delicious morning tea and had a good time catching up with one another.

12.01.2022 Our Beamers Junior children were having fun making scones for the end of year Christmas celebration and afternoon tea. Miss Stephanie showed the children the images of the scones and talked about the recipe we use to make them. The children were excited to learn about the different ingredients and steps. Miss Stephanie asked open-ended questions about cooking and to explore the fascinating cause and effect between different ingredients. What happens when we add milk to the fl...our etc. Jeremiah said Its...sticky..., and Adam said, Milk and butter. The children enjoyed measuring and combining the ingredients together. They also took turns to mix the ingredients and shared the scones cutter. Through this cooking activity the children develop problem solving, literacy, social and communication skills, science knowledge, ability to follow instructions, creativity thinking and many more. Most importantly, they had lots of FUN! See more

12.01.2022 Children in Beamer Junior showed a lot of interest in songs, especially "We are going on a bear hunt" song. Educators observed children pretended walking through long, wavy grass and running away from a bear. To extend on this, educators introduced the story during group time and added in our room project. The children were very engaged with the story and shared ideas. Our next plan was to provide opportunity for children to have a visual version of the book to bring the st...ory to life by creating the different scenes. The children were very familiar with the story and they enjoyed seeing it in an illustrated form. At first they did not quite get the idea but by the end of the book, many of them were echoing the rhyme and screaming theatrically when the bear was revealed. A few children showed the ability to mimic actions and this activity can be extended in the future to enhance dramatic play skill. The book and experience incorporate so many different skills and concepts. Some of the concepts involved in the story are five senses, descriptive words, rhythm and mimicking skill, directions and basic geography, sequencing and order, and even expressed emotions. Bear Hunt encouraged children physical activity and creativity as they walked, ran and pretended engaging in a bear hunt. Of course most importantly, everyone had a great time! See more

12.01.2022 In Starbucks Junior, we have been learning about Sun Smart. The children engaged in some group discussion about Slip Slap Slop Slide and they have learned to apply sunscreen on their own. We have also been learning to care for our plants. Some children are not aware of how to respect and look after the plants as they tend to remove them from the soil. During the spring season, the children will be planting seeds and having first hand experience, nurturing the plants. We have planted some herbs in our planter pots outside the cubby house. The childrens interest in outdoor play has blossomed in recent weeks. As the weather gets warmer, they are spending more time exploring nature, engaged in creating new play experiences with peers.

11.01.2022 It is very important to teach young children about road safety. Therefore we have planned an incursion on road safety for children to learn about how to be safe on the road. Professor E. Speriment and ThingleToodle (road safety mascot) visited our kindergarten to share with children some key road safety education concepts including; holding adults hands when crossing the road, Stop! Look! Listen! Think! before crossing the road and much more. By participating in this incursion, children were exposed to lots of practical and fun road safety learning experiences.

10.01.2022 Miss Stephanie and Miss Nisrusha set the goal to intentionally teach the Beamers Junior children to access the learning resources/equipment and to effectively participate in planned learning experiences. We discussed a few strategies to help the educators to support children by showing and explaining to the children the use of the equipment/resources. Educators also provide a clear and simple guide, add image in each learning experience, talk to the children at group time and most importantly, to engage with them during the process. The educators implemented the said strategy and each child is supported when s/he explores the learning environment. Our educators will continue to support children to use the learning equipment safety with full participation.

09.01.2022 Yesterday most of the centre children went out on a "Clean up Australia day" excursion. We walked around the neighbourhood and the park to look for any rubbish that may have been thrown. We are very impressed that our neighbourhood is so clean because we could hardly find any in our half an hour walk. The children pointed out at dogs, a school on a bike riding excursion, water flowing under the bridge we crossed and lots of cement trucks and big buses. It's a great way to ...start conversations, meet people along the route and just enjoy being out in nature. The weekly excursion adventure helps children develop confidence and encourage social skills under the safe supervision of educators. "Clean up Australia day" is on Sunday 7 March this year. If you're going out and about with your children on Sunday, why not take a bag and fill it with any rubbish you may find along the way to show them what keeping Australia clean is all about. 09.01.2022 Watercolour resistance with crayons is a classic art activity. The best part about this activity is to show children how different texture react with watercolour. The crayon will repel against watercolour when both come in contact with one another. Its a very simple process and the children were amazed to discover the crayon marks still remain after the paint dried up. Even they applied layers after layers of paint over the crayon, the wax will displace the paint and reappear on the artwork. Next week, we will continue to explore with white crayon drawings to see the outcome when painted over with watercolour. This is science for our pre-schoolers!

08.01.2022 During the Diwali festival, the Twinklers children participated some special art experience. They explored with some coloured sand. The children really enjoyed the brightness and texture. Some were making lines on the sand while others simply enjoy the feel of it. In the process, the children learned to name the colours and we also used the sand to create some beautiful artwork too!

08.01.2022 Last September, our sunshine children participated in a few excursions. We visited the Myuna Farm in Devoton. The farmer explained different produces from various farm animals such as cows, sheep, chicken and goats. The children were given the opportunity to milk a goat too! They were so excited to interact with the talking cockatoo and feed the sheep, goats, pigs, deers, emus and alpacas. Finally, we had a train ride. Everyone sat back, enjoying the landscape as the train drove past the animals and down the wetlands. It was indeed a very memorable day for the children as well as the adults too.

08.01.2022 Our Beamers Seniors are mastering fine motor skills by picking gum nuts using tongs. Transferring items from one container to another with tongs is working out fingers and hand muscles, also forearm muscles which are needed in writing skill. Fine motor skills involve the use of the small muscles of the hands, such as when doing up buttons, opening lunch boxes or using pencils or scissors. Fine motor efficiency significantly influences the quality of task outcome as well as th...e speed of task performance. Efficient fine motor skills require a number of independent skills to occur simultaneously to appropriately manipulate object or perform task. Fine motor skills are essential in carrying out daily tasks such as dressing up, cleaning teeth, using cutlery, drawing, writing as well as cutting and pasting. Without the ability to carry out tasks like these, a childs self-esteem can be affected hence their academic performance. See more

08.01.2022 Last week we explored the "Bear Hunt" book in a number of ways. First our children enjoyed listening to the book reading with lots of action and expression. Then the children made their own bear mask for a role play. The children also had a chance to explore their sensory touch by participating in the bear hunt sensory play. Lastly the children created their own bear hideout with their own imagination and creativity. What a fun week our Twinklers had!

07.01.2022 The children have been resourcing their learning through engaging with natural materials as they pretend to bake and cook with them. This experience enhances childrens social learning as they explore the world and sharing space with each another. We continued fostering self-help skills, encouraging the children to help each other to pack away their bed as well as to take care of the environment by setting up play experiences together. During art exploration, we have been teaching the children new concepts as they explore with fine brush painting. They are learning how to wash out the paint brush before choosing a new colour. Although it sounds simple, it is an important process which needed to be taught.

07.01.2022 This year, our kinders have decided to celebrate NAIDOC with the community by visiting the Glen Waverley library. We took public transport and for some, it was the very first time they went on a bus ride! For some, it was the beginning of a life-long lesson as children started using their Myki cards for transportation. To mark the occasion, Monash library has organised an art and story telling workshop to educate children about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultur...e. These stories were all written by different Aboriginal authors. It was an interactive workshop where children had fun. This educational experience has helped children developed an understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture. Each child received a native plant as gift and an instruction leaflet is also included to teach children how to take care of their special plant. See more

05.01.2022 Last week, children in Beamers Junior learnt about feelings and emotions through books, pictures, cards, open ended discussion and games. The educators and children set up the feelings and emotions table learning activity together. Sasha and Jade helped Miss Stephanie arranged the emotion cards on the table. Adam and Liam enjoyed exploring the feelings and emotions learning corner, showing their curiosity with the facial expressions on the mirror. Every morning and afternoo...n, educators invited the children to have a group discussion about feelings and emotions (how to identify and express them appropriately). At this learning experience, the children were asked about their feelings and why they feel that way. The educators guided and supported children to recognise their feelings by using their verbal communication skills, cards, looking at their facial expression in the mirror and matching their facial expression with the emotion cards. It is amazing that some of the children were able to explain how they feel and why they feel in a certain way. The children were also encouraged to engage in drawing, painting, and craft as a way of expressing themselves. As we know painting, drawing, art and craft activities can soothe and calm children when they get frustrated or sad. We will continue to teach the children about feelings and emotions and embed this learning experience in our daily program to develop awareness in learning to identify and express their feelings and acquire skills to manage them effectively. 05.01.2022 Last week our Beamers Senior had their first excursion experience to the nearby Napier Park. The children enjoyed walking to the park and collecting natural materials, later used for art and craft. Excursion is an excellent way to consolidate learnings from classroom setting into a real life experience. The sighting of real events will stay with the child long into adulthood hence become some of their earliest and best loved memories. The children enjoyed listening to Aborigi...nal dream time stories from Jaxxs mum; Sharee. The children have also collected some natural material to set up their play experience with Rahams mum; Abby. The excursion has offered a valuable experience for the Beamers, drawing on several aspects of learning. It enables them to respond to diversities, with the people they meet along the way and the different environment they are involved in. This has further enhanced the shared experience amongst the group. The Early Years Learning Framework is becoming more evident, encouraging secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships. What a fantastic walk to the park! The children walked beautifully, talking about different things along the way and practiced on road safety. Without the help and support from our parents; Sharee and Abby, we wont be able to organise this exciting and enriching experience. Thanks you both! See more

04.01.2022 The Twinklers were making some artwork for Christmas celebration. The children enjoyed making the gingerbread man, sprinkling the glitters on top. They dipped the pine leaves into a tub of glitters, making it so colourful, ready to be used for the Christmas party. While the children engaged in the purposeful art & craft experience, they also enjoyed listening to some Christmas carols too.

03.01.2022 We have two special guests; Stacey n her pet dog; Force who came to visit the Sunshine children. Stacey taught us how to live safely with dogs. We have learned some new songs n dance around the topic. The children were so brave, asking for permission to give a gentle pat to Force. Force is a very friendly dog despite of his look We have really enjoyed the experience n hope to see other animals visiting the children in the near future

02.01.2022 Since the arrival of Spring, our Twinklers have been busy helping out in the yard, to put soil into the pot for new plants to grow. In order to further enrich childrens learning and to develop an understanding and respect for the natural environment, we have decided to introduce seeds planting to the children. We managed to get some Asian vegetable seeds and some trays. The children learned to use their hands to put soil into the trays, and they watched how Miss Jasper sp...read the seed on the soil and how she water the seeds with the spray bottle. In order to foster understanding and respect to the environment, and the interdependency between humans and plants, Miss Jaspes said, We need to drink water, plants also need to drink water. The more these seeds drink their water, the faster they grow, and the sooner we can enjoy the yummy vegetable. Charlie wanted to try to water the plants too so Miss Jasper assisted him by holding his hand to do squirt the spray bottle. After everything has finished, the children helped to clean up. Charlie and Aoife took turns to use the dustpan and brush to sweep away the dirt and dry leaves on the floor. Alyssa and Evan were also helping with the watering too. Everyone was supported to engage in quality experience in the natural environment. See more

01.01.2022 Jumping is good to strengthen the body. Children need to have enough core or trunk strength as well as lower extremity strength to propel their entire body weight up in the air against gravity. As their jumping pattern matures, children also use their upper extremities to assist in their movement (standing long jump), seeing strengthening benefits to the upper extremities as well. Repeated jumping also provides a great cardiovascular workout for children, causing their heart and respiratory rates to increase in a healthy manner. Our Starbucks Senior children are thrilled and overjoyed to try on this energetic play. Nothing is better than seeing the children having such fun and witnessing their progress and develop positive self-esteem.
