22.01.2022 SUMMER COACHING CAMPS TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR CRICKET Shaun Brown, a supporter of BDCC, has just launched his cricket camps for January 2021. With an array of former Australian stars taking the coaching reins, from Merv Hughes to Nathan Bracken, this is a great opportunity to learn and grow across 12 hours of COVID-safe cricket. The camps will feature video analysis and speed guns, helping young players to learn the skills they need to succeed in all three forms of the game. ... 22.01.2022 A quick notice for our members in the Bayside Council area... While BDCC is non-political, the reality is that our future as a healthy and engaged community sports club is reliant on the support of the Bayside City Council. That means the upcoming elections pose an opportunity for us to vote for candidates who share a commitment to our sporting community. With that in mind, the club has surveyed the candidates and created a little short list of those who will promote and s...upport sporting interests in Bayside has been produced below. There are more than 60 candidates standing. Many of these candidates do not live in the ward in which they are standing and believe that organised sport takes up too much open space. Many of these candidates believe that our sporting fields are under-utilised and have been "over-invested" in, in recent years (e.g. pavilion upgrades). Some candidates appear to be "dummy" candidates and represent single interest groups who are frankly anti-sport, and do not see the overall benefits of sport. Furthermore, some have declared they support only "passive recreation", which means that reserves are available for use but not by organised community clubs, such as us. Our club's operations are predicated on the scarce and finite oval space being a precious asset to be shared to benefit both passive and active users. Our community is stronger through the participation and engagement of children, parents and grandparents in our club contributing to all our physical and mental health. Never has that been more evident than in 2020. Our club's values are founded on cricket being accessible to all ages, genders and abilities. This link allows you to understand your candidates declared agenda: https://www.vec.vic.gov.au//bayside-city-counc/nominations The Short List of candidates who have demonstrated they will promote and support sporting interests are: . Dendy Ward - Michael Heffernan . Bleazby Ward - Karen Kimber . Castlefield Ward - Rob Grinter . Boyd Ward - Craig Francis or Colleen Harkin . Ivison Ward - Marlene Johnson or Marcus Barber . Ebden Ward - Laurie Evans . Beckett Ward - Clarke Martin The 2020 Bayside elections could potentially see the election of an anti-sport council. Let's use our collective voice to ensure this does not happen.

18.01.2022 I'm sad to inform all our BDCC Members and Friends that Patrick "Pa" McGrath closed his innings on earth this September 2nd, at 82 years of age. Pa has been a great supporter of Women's Cricket, first at Brighton East and then at the Brighton District CC in many ways. Pa was a Premiership Umpire in the Victorian Women's Cricket Association, as well as a Premiership Coach back in the days of Brighton East CC. He was always happy to give his time to the club, be that to help p...layers improve their skills, updating the Women's stats for the 25 year celebration (in the days before MyCricket) or doing the Scorecard Replicas for our century makers & 7-fers for Presentation night awards. In the early days Pa was the designated Taxi for the clubs Night Owls...and in more recent times he would have been known to many as "Lucky Pat, the Dodgy Bookie"at Melbourne Cup day Functions. In addition to giving so much to the club, Pa was a former VJCA State player, a Junior Coach & a great fan of the wonderful game. His was a life well lived, with respect to all, and he always contributed as part of a team. He was his own true self and a gift to us all. RIP Pa

17.01.2022 MEN’S PRESEASON MATCH REPORT Presented by Little Beginnings ELC Further down Dendy Park on this weekend, a second 'battle' was taking place between 20 members of the 3/4/5s squad. While there was no trophy, and significantly less hype than the 'Showdown' game, the hitout was vital for the lower XI's season preparations.... Five sets of fathers and sons took the field including newcomers, Mark & Troy Morley, stepping out on the sacred Dendy turf for the first time. If you include super sub Ethan Sacks, it was SIX sets of fathers and Sons. We also had two more new players to the club, Bryce Laughlan and Miles Rodriguez. The game itself was a great hitout with young guns Sid Gautam, Max Ralph, Jake Cotchin and Luke Harrington all shining with bat, ball and gloves. Luke's keeping for both teams was a highlight. Young guns Troy Morley and Jack Wajntraub held their own while the golden oldies, Hilly, Sean, Pappa, Steve, Darren Sacks and Dave Harrington looked as good as ever. The dads also looked handy with Dave Cotchin throwing himself around the field trying desperately to get his boy out and Mark Morley hitting a few long balls. The Ralph XI comfortably took the chocolates but most importantly everyone got a good hitout before the upcoming season. Thanks to Steve Ralph for all his work organising and setting up the game. Let’s also take a moment to celebrate the fact that OVER 40 PLAYERS turned out for practice games on Saturday. The keenness around the club is fantastic and it's certainly a fun place to be around at the moment. Speaking of father / son combinations, Little Beginnings are a non-franchised, family-owned early learning centre celebrating each child’s unique journey. Their newly renovated purpose-built centre is home to large indoor and outdoor play areas, with daily experiences suited for all ages. If you would like to contact the Little Beginnings team or view more information please head to https://www.littlebeginningschildcare.com.au/enquire-now

15.01.2022 As you may have seen in your email inbox the club is currently seeking expressions of interest for our senior captain positions for season 2020/21. This season in particular, we have some announcements regarding leadership of some of the men's teams. Jason Oldfield, Gordon Meredith and Saul Wajntraub have all decided not to continue as captains of the 1s, 2s and 3s respectively. Fortunately, all three are continuing to play at the club, but this means we have some definite v...acancies to fill. We would like to thank all three for their leadership and service last season. The time and dedication required is huge and we really appreciate and congratulate them for their efforts. In particular, Jason Oldfield has been captain of the Men's 1st XI for the past 5 seasons. This is a huge effort in a difficult role, and to follow in the footsteps of his Dad as a long-term captain of the club is something he should be very proud of. Well done, Jase! Our captains will be crucial to the overall success of the season, especially given the level of ambiguity we face this season. So if you feel you have what we need, please put your name forward. Expressions of Interest should be in writing to our president, Rod Bartholomeusz at [email protected] by tomorrow at 5PM.

15.01.2022 MEN'S MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 2 Cricket is officially back in full swing, with all FIVE men's XIs playing on the weekend, FOUR of them at Dendy Park! It was a mixed bag of games and results, and while it's not the best for ladder positions, it makes for excellent reading... ... See below for full match recaps, and thank you again to our team sponsors JG Carpentry, Scotia Engraving & Wholesale Paper (Vic) for their continued support this season.

15.01.2022 Training will look a little different this season, because of the need to social distance while we play our cricket. We will not be able to resume club training until we get endorsement from DHHS via Cricket Victoria and Cricket Southern Bayside. That is expected to happen when restrictions are next eased in Victoria, which will be the third step to a COVIDnormal. That has been mooted to happen on October 18 or October 25, but again, the actual date is yet to be confirmed.... Here the main things players will need to be aware of when we are able to resume training as a club Attendance will need to be tracked and registered Training will be in groups of ten (i.e. ten in the nets, ten on one oval, and ten on another) Avoid equipment sharing, and if you must, clean and sanitise it between uses No physical contact and no high-fives (Bonus: reduce risk of taking someone’s eye out) No golden gollies and no clearing nasal passages Sanitise every 30-40 minutes and wear mask when you’re not batting, bowling or fielding Balls and club equipment to be cleaned before and after each session The club will formalise the specifics of how to register for sessions once we have received the go-ahead to resume training. In the mean time, join us on Strava to receive our thrice weekly club home workouts: https://www.strava.com/clubs/758036 The full guidelines for our return to training are available here: https://www.cricketvictoria.com.au//Association-and-Club-C #BDCC #BrightonDistrictCricketClub #cricket #localsport #brighton #bayside #cricketsouthernbayside #sport #localcricket #suburbancricket

15.01.2022 ONLINE STORE EXTENDED To adjust to the ongoing situation with Covid our online store for apparel has been extended until the end of September. With a mid November start time as our best case scenario, moving the closure of the store is a common sense approach to our situation.... 14.01.2022 MEN'S TRAINING THIS WEEK If, like Swaggy P (Sam Patterson), you love training, make sure you register for sessions this week. 13.01.2022 ONLINE STORE EXTENDED To our club members - our online apparel store closing date has been extended to the end of August. Take care and any questions relating to apparel please contact Tom Williamson on 0428607667 or [email protected]

11.01.2022 Time to meet the skipper of our women's 2nd XI, who led the side to a smashing first up win on the weekend! Name: Cassie Bodie Nickname(s): Legend (self-appointed), otherwise just Cas.... Cricketing Idol: Ma (aka Ellen McGrath). She gives her all to the club. Championing the women's program at Brighton, team manager, scorer, fundraising queen. Truly the mother of the whole club. Greatest cricket moment: Easily the 15/16 Women's Twos Grand Final win. A day that proved a champion team will always defeat a team of champions. Pink, white or red ball? If I'm going to maintain the illusion of being a swing bowler, I have to say red. Instagram or Twitter? Last tweet I sent had a real bird attached. Most used phone app: Google Maps (even though I don't understand her). Favourite movie: Home Alone 1 and 2. First Concert: Human Nature. Most famous person you've met: Ellen (Ma) McGrath. That woman is known by more people than a Kardashian. Pets: Still practising with houseplants.

11.01.2022 MENS TEAMS FOR WEEK 3 What’s the forecast for the weekend? 28 and sunny with 100% chance of cricket! Find out who’s playing where below, and hopefully we’ll be eating a few ‘dubs’ with our dumplings at Red Door Yum Cha on Saturday Night!

10.01.2022 APPLES 200. No, we didn't get the fruit order wrong. Club icon Chris "Apples" Appleton will be playing his 200th senior match for BDCC when our Men's 3rds take on Parkdale at Dendy Park this afternoon! With four men's teams playing at home today, make sure you take the time to congratulate this guy on his efforts. Buying him a beer, or an apple cider, wouldn't be a bad idea, either... ... In 199 games, Apples has 2514 runs @ 13.2, including six 50s. He's also taken 44 wickets at 22 super average, that with best figures of 7-36. Congrats, Chris!

09.01.2022 While our mooted return to play date of November 14 is fast approaching, BDCC acknowledges that this is subject to the Victorian Government easing COVID-19 restrictions. The club is waiting for Victoria to take the third step towards a COVID normal before we can resume training. This has been mooted for October 18th or October 25th, but we’re awaiting further updates. When we know, we’ll make sure you know.... In the meantime, we’re expecting fixtures for shortly for our five men’s sides and two women’s sides, which we will share as soon as they’re available. Cricket Victoria’s website has plenty of information about what to expect come season 2020/21. Find it here: https://www.cricketvictoria.com.au/clubs-support/covid-19/
