25.01.2022 / / SIX DAYS LEFT TO SUBMISSIONS / / Here on the Tribe Facebook Page, we're going to be counting down to the day our video auditions need to be submitted! Each day, we're going to provide a little more in depth look at sections of our auditions to help auditionees out with getting their audition together and looking amazing for the day of submission! ... With only six days until video submissions are due, we're going to break down the vocal audition component of your submission! There are no monologues or dialogues in the musical of Cats as the whole show is sung through, which means that being able to act and express yourself through song is a very important criteria point when casting. You will need to submit a vocal audition if you want to be a: Lead Character Ensemble Cat Pit Singer In this vocal audition, you will need to prepare a song (verse and chorus, no longer than three minutes) from any Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that isn't Cats! These include shows like Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Get your audition submissions in soon! #TribeCats #KeepCreating

24.01.2022 / / THE SNOW QUEEN - A Panto by Alan P Frayn / / Thurs 3 December 7:30 PM New readers and audience members welcome! ... Join us for a fun filled evening in a Christmas tradition... the Panto! Myth, Legend and Fantasy combine in this spellbinding story told in true pantomime tradition by the popular present day pantomime writer, Alan P Frayn. It is based on the original fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen. The story centres on the struggle between ‘good and evil’ as experienced by two young people Gerda & Kai, who are friends. The evil element being The Snow Queen and her heart of ice and the ‘good’ being Gerda who embarks on a long journey to the Frozen North, facing obstacles and finding new friends in her quest to release Kai from the Snow Queen’s spell. Along the way she encounters a variety of colourful characters, including The Good Fairy, The Hippy Princess and a talking reindeer! Of course no pantomime is complete without the traditional ‘Dame’ and this one is no exception. Comment below if you want to get involved! #TribePlayReading #KeepCreating

24.01.2022 / / NINE DAYS LEFT TO SUBMISSIONS / / Here on the Tribe Facebook Page, we're going to be counting down to the day our video auditions need to be submitted! Each day, we're going to provide a little more in depth look at sections of our auditions to help auditionees out with getting their audition together and looking amazing for the day of submission! ... Our second day is going to focus on our movement audition, who this audition section is relevant to and what that audition will consist of! Once you've booked your audition slot through Cast98, it's time to start putting together your videos and the movement audition may be one of those videos! The movement piece is for those auditionees who have had no formal dance training and is tailored to be very accessible to those individuals. You need to start your audition off by holding up a piece of paper with your name and age written on it and then proceed to follow the dance to the song '9 to 5' viewable on the Cats website at the following link: https://catsbendigo.wordpress.com/auditions/ If you're looking to be a lead character or an ensemble cat you will need to pair this with a vocal audition to be cast in the show. If you have any formal training, you will be looking at putting together one of the other dance videos which will have a focus on one of the upcoming days! Let us know if you have any questions! #Tribe2020 #KeepCreating

Let your imagination run wild with this one because these characters will be the focus of your scene so make this choice count! Happy Writing! #WhatHaveYouScene #Tribe2020

21.01.2022 / / THANK YOU VANESSA / / Dear Members. After much deliberation on her part, on Sunday, Tribe received Vanessa Bate’s resignation from the position of Artistic Director and Committee Member of Tribe Youth Theatre.... Well before 2017, Vanessa had been harbouring a passion to create a new theatre group for Bendigo’s teenagers, and we are incredibly fortunate that the opportunity arose for this idea to become a reality. For Tribe, Vanessa has directed Barnum, and directed and choreographed Grease and Cats to the highest standard and as a Tribe committee member she has supported the creative teams for both Wyrd Sisters and Blood Brothers. The experience of being directed by Vanessa has been a key factor for many Tribe participants to keep coming back. Vanessa is one of the most organised, efficient and professional director/choreographers, dedicating months of conscientious preparation ahead of auditions. Her rehearsal room is focused, attentive and productive, resulting in an exceptionally high standard on the stage. Vanessa feels the time is right to make way for new committee members to take Tribe Youth Theatre forward. Happily, Vanessa will continue as the Director and Choreographer of Tribe’s 2021 musical, CATS, which will be staged in the latter half of 2021. Vanessa will always be celebrated as one of the co-founders of Tribe Youth Theatre and has held its creative vision close to her heart for the past four years. We thank her immeasurably for her dedication to Tribe, wish her well and look forward to catching up at future productions. #TribeYouthTheatre

09.01.2022 / / WRITE YOUR SCENE / / Now we get down to the really hard hitting stuff. You actually have to write a scene for the stage. Using all of the prompts and characters you've selected from before, you have to finally chuck pen to paper or at least fingers to keyboard. Include with your beautifully typed up scene a character list, setting description and synopsis and once you've done that, this step is complete! Happy Writing! #WhatHaveYouScene #Tribe2020

With one week to go going to focus on our specialist dance auditions, who these sections are relevant to and what those auditions will consist of! If you have any type of formal dance training or you would like to extend yourself in your dance audition you would complete one or more of the following dance auditions: MUSICAL THEATRE PIECE If you would like to be an onstage cat and have any formal dance training, you should be completing at least this piece. There is a fast option of this dance to 'Green Door' and a slow option to 'Turn Back Time', feel free to select the pace you feel most comfortable with! CLASSICAL BALLET PIECE If you have classical training you would complete this video alongside the musical theatre piece. The music in the classical piece called Back Exercise (Adagio) Mozart 216 from the album Music for Ballet Class (Cecchetti Method) by Ferdy Tumakaka. TAP DANCING PIECE If you want to be either of the characters JennyAnyDots or Skimbleshanks or if you want to be in the tapping ensemble (Cats & Kittens) for either of those numbers, please record and submit a Tap Audition in addition to the Musical Theatre one. Sometimes it can be a little daunting taking on one of these auditions if you've been out of practice for a while or it's been a while since you've had a class but remember, everyone is in the same boat when it comes to the absence of classes and our casting panel will consider just your current dance fitness and ability to move Try filming these outdoors or in the driveway if you're running out of space in your house! #TribeCats #KeepCreating

With only three days until all video submissions have to be in, we're going to be addressing some audition nerves or worries you might have before filming your audition! WHAT IF I HAVEN'T AUDITIONED BEFORE? Tribe Youth Theatre strive to bring new performers into every show we put on, we want to see auditionees ranging from no stage experience to those with many shows under the belt. Everything has something to offer, you just have to show us! I'M STRUGGLING WITH FILMING MY AUDITION By no means do these audition videos have to be professionally recorded. If the only space you have to film your video is the driveway, film it on the driveway. If you don't have someone to hold the camera for you, prop it up on a shelf and off you go. We just want to see a little bit of what you can do so we can slot you into the show. I'M REALLY OUT OF PRACTICE Isolation has meant that a lot of various dance and vocal lessons have been cancelled, so you might be feeling that you're not up to your full potential. That's okay. We just want to see where you're at and of course we'll take into consideration the current circumstances. WHAT IF THE SHOW GETS CANCELLED We know the possibility of the show being cancelled is scary and off-putting for many people. But if the show is cancelled in 2020, you will be offered the same role back in 2021 should you choose to take it, and the Cats team will be in constant communication with you between casting and the show to keep you engaged with this amazing group of people. WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO SUBMITTING MY AUDITION? 1. Register through Cast98 2. Film the relevant vocal and dance auditions. 3. Submit your audition to [email protected] For a more in depth summary, visit: https://catsbendigo.wordpress.com/auditions/ Please, chuck your hat in the ring and be a part of this amazing show! #TribeCats #KeepCreating
