24.01.2022 Hillscene LIVE IS LIVE!

22.01.2022 At the Creative Heart of Burrinja Beats a New Leadership Team (part b as promised) It also gives us great pleasure to announce the other half of our new leadership team, Toni Kirk, who has been appointed as Burrinja's Chief Operations Officer by our board. Many of you will already know Toni, who has been our Venue Manager for 10 years, and our Acting Executive Director for the past 15 months. ... Speaking on her appointment Toni said: Over the past 10 years I have welcomed thousands of performers at the stage door, greeted thousands of eager patrons at the box office and seen first hand the deep connection Burrinja has with its community. I have a deep respect for Burrinja’s past and a great enthusiasm for its future so being given the opportunity to work with Gareth and the team to explore, imagine and shape that future is a great privilege. Toni forms one half of the new leadership team, the other half is the distinctive Gareth Hart (see the part a post for more info). Toni will transition into her new role on Monday September 21st, 2020. See the full media release: https://mailchi.mp//media-release-aug-2020-at-the-creative

20.01.2022 We are currently experiencing some connection issues as they transfer our phone lines over to NBN. Over the next few days if you need to get in touch please email us on [email protected] or message us via facebook. Thank you for your understanding.

20.01.2022 We would love to hear from you... Burrinja is working towards re-opening its galleries and facilities to the local community. It will be a different re- opening than we had planned but we are excited to be inviting you back in soon. In forming and developing our plans we would appreciate your help by completing this brief survey. https://form.jotform.com/201812036443849

20.01.2022 The first week of August 2020 (last week) was the week that we had hoped to be welcoming people back through the doors of Burrinja. Alas that is not possible with Stage 4 restrictions keeping us all safely in our respective 5km bubbles. Not to be deterred from our excitement at the redevelopment we wanted to share with you a sneak peek inside Burrinja. You may notice a cardboard cut-out of Premier Dan Andrews taking on the role of barista and usher during the video. He hasn'...t actually joined Burrinja's team, we wanted to have a representative of the State Government's Growing Suburbs Fund as they were co-funders of the project with Yarra Ranges Council. Thank you to Mayor Cr Richard Higgins for his acknowledgement of country and to both the State Government's Growing Suburbs Fund & Yarra Ranges Council for making the redevelopment possible.

19.01.2022 At the Creative Heart of Burrinja Beats a New Leadership Team (part a) We are delighted to introduce (and for some reintroduce) to you Gareth Hart who has been appointed as Creative Director & CEO of Burrinja by our Board. Most recently, Gareth has been leading regional arts organisation, @artsmildura , as Executive Director and has earned a national (and increasingly international) reputation as a thoughtful, innovative and strategic leader within the arts industry.... Speaking on this opportunity, Gareth said, I am thrilled to be joining the team at Burrinja, in such a pivotal time. Burrinja has been formative in my development as both an artist and a leader, with many of my cherished creative memories occurring here. I believe Burrinja has played a significant role in the arts ecology of the region. Gareth forms one half of the new leadership team, the other half is the inimitable Toni Kirk (see the part b post for more info). Gareth will officially join the Burrinja team on Monday September 21st, 2020. Start a Creative Conversation with Gareth: With Burrinja entering a new future of creative activity, this is a significant opportunity for dreaming and visioning. And what better way to do this than together. So, say hi to Gareth via email [email protected], and start a creative conversation. They are so keen to get to know you, and connect with you as we find more ways of building community through arts. full media release available: https://mailchi.mp//media-release-aug-2020-at-the-creative Carmel Zaccone

19.01.2022 Dreaming of new adventures? Us too. It will be wonderful when we can spread our wings a little further for a little longer. In the meantime enjoy this #onebeautifulhour capture from D.Clarke Photography's imagination. After a ride up Belmont Ave hill (pic 2) he transported us to a beautiful stardust world with hot air ballons, candy sunsets and adventure in the wind. Also special shout to @this_gemini_life for the 3rd picture as they discover Burrinja in their backyard. ... Cannot wait to show y'all the inside too! #dandenongranges #stage4relief #keepingsane #keeponkeepingon #nearlythere #whenonebecomestwo

18.01.2022 Join the us for the PREMIER of Between the Silence, by the LOST FEW on September 6 at 8PM. Filmed in the Burrinja Theatre in early 2019, this video has never been seen by the public at large. In response to LOST FEW's album Between the Silence. This live performance installation is a visceral exploration of natural environments and its relationship to physical space. Exploring the physicality of natural environments, the brutality and beauty contained within and how that responds and reflects violence and masculinity. Please listen using headphones for the complete experience.

16.01.2022 Usually, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow would have spent the past few months stopping off at towns across Australia. While we haven’t been able to host Australia’s favourite comedy convoy so far this year, we’re delighted to have a bit of Roadshow hit our screens when the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow Documentary airs on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Facebook page live on Saturday 27 June at 8pm AEST! Filmed in 2016, it’s a hilarious behind the scenes peek of what it's like to be a touring comedian. #MICF #Roadtrip #comedy #nextbestthing

08.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 is celebrated under the motto 'Always Was, Always Will Be' recognising that First Nations people have for over 65,000 years occupied, cared for and been spiritually and culturally connected to this country. Burrinja board members Aunty Janet Turpie-Johnstone and Jake Berthelot, together with Creative Director Gareth Hart, gathered at Burrinja's Art of Place Garden to acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pe...oples. Wurundjeri woman Julie Coombs performed a Welcome to Country, followed by a Smoking Ceremony led by Aunty Janet, who recalled the significance and origins of NAIDOC Week. The ceremony was followed by the performance of poetry by Nikki Madgwick, a proud Worimi-Biripi woman from coastal NSW who works and lives on Wurundjeri Country. Nikki took part remotely and shared three powerful and moving poems: 'Always was always will be', 'Languages matter', and 'Does my heritage offend you?' Jake, proud Potaruwutj Padthaway man acted as our MC and behind the scenes, JD MIttman, Burrinja’s Curator, captured the event. It is Burrinja’s honour to operate on Wurundjeri country. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations as the traditional custodians and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. It is through valuing their history, traditions, culture and beliefs that we strive to stimulate awareness and promote respect for Indigenous contemporary art and culture and create a positive future for Indigenous and non-indigenous communities together. For more information on NAIDOC week and other events go to: https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/naidoc-week

05.01.2022 How's that Lockdown 2.0 cabin fever treating you? I know that we have all been feeling the effects this week and maybe need a reminder of how necessary that one beautiful hour is... According to Dr Rona Weerasuriya from Deakin University’s Health, Nature and Sustainability Research Group, "Simply escaping out into nature provides the freedom, relaxation and physical activity, which is needed and known to have a positive impact on mental states such as anxiety and depression."... So take your wonderful selves outside, even if you only make it to your back yard. And if you feel like it snap a pic & share the moment with us. Today's #onebeautifulhour shares were sent to us via email. Shout outs to Ron Tiesler (kookaburras), Dr Elizabeth Dax (forest) & Toni Kirk (wattle) #dandenongranges #lockdown2 #stage4relief #keepingsane #3weekstogo #fingerscrossed
