11.01.2022 The children at Busy Bees at Cameron Grove have been enjoying an abundance of tomatoes The children assisted their Educators in seeking out the bright red ripened tomatoes which were ready for eating and they gathered them into a bowl "Here, I found one!" said Peyton. As they began to pick the tomatoes, the children noticed some tomatoes were over ripened or rotting and were not suitable for eating. "These are squishy" said Louella. "We need another bowl" suggested Fetui wh...o then retrieved another bowl from Cheryl to place all of the "bad" tomatoes into. This then became a team effort with all of the children participating in sorting the "good" from the "bad" tomatoes. The "good" tomatoes were then given to Chef Cheryl in the kitchen to serve to the children on the side for lunch. The children discussed what to do with the "bad" tomatoes and decided the best place for them to go would be into the compost bin. It is clear that through daily gardening experiences, many of the children at Cameron Grove have developed a strong knowledge of gardening and growing their own fruits and vegetables. The children are now able to confidently recognise when to leave the vegetable, and when it is ready to be harvested Learning Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world. Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment.
