23.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS BUXTON We’d like to wish you all an incredible Christmas! Last year was turmoil with flames engulfing our town and this year we have been blessed with some rain and cloudy skies as a reprieve for all the hard work from last year.... Not everyone can spend Christmas with their loved ones due to the state of the world, but we can all still spread Christmas cheer in our own ways, such as these amazing paintings that have been carefully crafted and placed on our fence by some talented residents. Your community Christmas spirit and depiction of our little station is so appreciated. Merry Christmas from all of us at Buxton Rural Fire Brigade, local and beyond

23.01.2022 While Wednesday’s are usually training nights, last night was a special one. After completing our Training Analysis with Captain Pete, we let loose and decided to light Buxton up a different way this year Instead of fires lighting our community this year, our beloved Buxton Fire Station has been lit to the hilt thanks to the wonderful people at Bunnings Warehouse Mittagong donating ALL of the lights (thanks to Community Engagement Officer Jackie for organising!) and our te...am completing risk assessments, climbing ladders, sticking down leads, supervising and overall having a cracking time. We worked well into the night but it was all worth it in the end. With the shed lit up, the truck lights on and our teams arms up like Christmas trees - we’re hoping this Christmas is a little bit happier for you, our Buxton Family and beyond

23.01.2022 Here at Buxton Brigade we are constantly training. Whether it be refreshing old knowledge, learning something new or the whole lot in between - we do it. This weekend we held our First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation Technique training over Saturday and Sunday for a group of our members. Due to COVID, we’ve had to reduce the amount of bums on seats in order to maintain social distancing, but we are constantly committed to upskilling our team in order to serve our community in... the best way possible We are lucky enough to have two of our very own brigade members, Emily and Russell, who are qualified at delivering First Aid and ART training so we have utilised their abilities to be able to conduct the training in house. How good is that?! A massive thanks to both these awesome instructors for sharing their knowledge and skills with their fellow brigade members. This is just another way we utilise specialised training to ensure our members are in tip top shape to rely on when the situation calls for it

23.01.2022 Alright folks, we’ve picked up a bit of a blooper in the 2021 calendar that has just been released Cheeky little March 1st 2021 slipped it’s way into Tuesday when really it’s on a Monday. So while the whole month of March will be out a day, we are looking on the bright side - anyone born on 1st March gets two birthdays?? No other months have their days mixed up, they are all aligned correctly.... We completely understand if this prevents anyone from wanting to purchase one of our limited edition calendars covering the 2019-2020 fire season, but we sure do hope you can look past March’s little defect and support our tiny brigade anyways Thank you for your understanding as a community

23.01.2022 We are so proud of our Kimmy Hill for receiving an award for her volunteering efforts. Kim has done wonders with the memorial being constructed at Telopea Park among many other projects with our brigade. Thank you Kimmy for all you do and congratulations

22.01.2022 After gathering our breath and thoughts, we’d like to put together an acknowledgment message with relation to the fire truck playground memorial for Andrew and Geoff. Firstly we would like to thank the O'Dwyer and Keaton families for accepting our proposal and also for the support we have received from the Wollondilly Community and our RFS Family. The Community wanted to pay tribute to RFS volunteers, Mr Andrew O'Dwyer and Mr Geoffrey Keaton, of Horsley Park Brigade, who tra...gically lost their lives in Buxton on the 19th December 2019 in their efforts to protect the Community from the Green Wattle Creek Bushfire. The idea of a "Fire Truck Playground" was put forward by Krystal Foster, a member, of the Buxton Community, we felt this was a very fitting tribute and it would be a "Happy Place" for the families to visit to remember their loved ones, as well as provide the local Community with a place of reflection which also helps in their own healing. We would like to thank everyone involved in bringing this together. Special thanks to Wollondilly Councillor Matthew Deeth and Project Manager Brett Milton of Wollondilly Shire Council and the team for their help and support. Playground was designed and constructed by a local Australian Company Moduplay Group, with everything in mind for interactive play, whist not taking away from the current play equipment. The Bronze Sculpture was crafted by Gillie and Marc Art, who are amazing artists and captured the detail and significance of this piece of art. We truly cannot thank enough the donations and support from: Australian Capital Equity Coates Hire AGL Energy Bendigo Bank Picton Budget Direct Commonwealth Bank Country Women's Association (CWA) of NSW - Picton District Branch Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal Gilbert and Roach Isuzu W.KEELEY & SONS LIMITED (Stonemasons) Kuipers Engineering Lions Clubs Australia - Tahmoor & Ulladulla Moduplay Group Pty Ltd NSW Rural Fire Service Association Simec mining - Tahmoor Coal Tahmoor Garden Centre Macarthur Credit Union - The Mac Trn Group Ulysses Club Inc. Australia - Macarthur & Wollondilly Wanderers Branch Wingecarribee Shire Council Wollondilly Shire Council The Ceremony that was held on the 5th December was made possible thanks to: Ric Bailey of Active Promotions Rob Moran and the team at Wollondilly Shire Council Raylene Linhart- RFS Southern Highlands Team RRT - Rapid Relief Team AU Buxton Rural Fire Brigade and Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade will forever be united. We hope that future generations also appreciate and remember these amazing men for years to come. - The Team at Buxton RFB

21.01.2022 2020 has been a year. We aren't sure what kind of year, but we have lived through it as a community. We walked into 2020 fighting fire in the most vicious way possible and we never want to have to do that again. May 2021 bring you and your loved ones happiness, health and love.... From our brigade family, to yours - Happy New Years.

20.01.2022 Pull up a pew and listen in to this weeks' video of the week. Here we have our Community Engagement Officer, Jackie, interviewing the family of a Buxton firefighter that fought in the Green Wattle fire. Even more interesting here is that this is a family of firefighters. Jackie, as always, does a great job at asking the key questions to not only hear about someone's story, but to learn as well.

20.01.2022 This weekend, we conducted a small outdoor, COVID safe presentation to a very special member of our brigade. Mr Bill Beattie has been involved in the NSW RFS for more years than many of our readers would have been alive and he is the man to go to for a cracker story or two. Now, our Bill likes to keep a low profile and he is as humble as they come, but today we’d like to honour him for an absolutely incredible achievement.... Bill has been presented with offical documentation on becoming the first ever District Group Officer to have come out of the Buxton Fire Brigade. Not only is this an amazing achievement for our little brigade, but a wonderful undertaking for Mr Bill Beattie. So please, whip up a virtual round of applause and an overall well wish for Bill, who is an absolute legend and will have a couple of extra shiny things on his shoulders from now on

19.01.2022 Part of our duties as volunteer firefighters is to ensure our trucks and equipment are accounted for, in working order and cleaned. This week our Cat 1 had a two hour pamper session with one of our brilliant lads, Jye. Doesn’t she look all brand new and beautiful

11.01.2022 Impotrant Notice for all Southern Highlands residents...........

09.01.2022 One year today, Buxton was overrun with flames from the Green Wattle Fire. Our community was in dire straights and at complete risk of being obliterated. Brigades from near and far came to our aid. One year today, two men had their lives taken in the very flames they were fighting. Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O'Dwyer from Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade paid the ultimate price. But the fire didn't win, gentlemen. We want you to know that. ... Buxton lives on, and we have forever memoralised you in the very centre of our tiny village. We do this in your honour. One year today, and it feels like yesterday. Vale Andrew and Geoff, this is for you, comrades

07.01.2022 Congrats Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons so well deserved

05.01.2022 Well done Team Mudgee, Windeyer and Mullamuddy! You've got this

04.01.2022 Good on you Neil ........ final Bushfire Fighter Assessment for 2020. Welcome to the team Neil.

04.01.2022 Bit of maintenance happening this week down at the shed! We are lucky enough to be getting a six metre extension which will allow for upgraded changing rooms, extra space for storage and of course more room for our girls - the Cat 1 and the Cat 7 A whole bunch of members showed up to pitch in to prepare for future works. We had hoses rolled, sand laid and flattened, fridges cleaned, letterbox drops done, electricity upgraded - heaps! We look forward to upgrading our little beauty of a shed to continue serving you, our community

03.01.2022 Today we held an intimate yet social distanced ceremony to reveal the Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O’Dwyer Memorial Playground at Telopea Park in Buxton to the families of the hero’s that lost their lives fighting to save our community. In attendance were the families of Geoff and Andrew, their Captain and crew from Horsley Park Rural Brigade, Picton CWA, Wollondilly Shire Council Representatives including Mayor Robert Khan and Councillor Matthew Deeth, Rural Fire Service Offi...cers including Commissioner Rob Rogers, Superintendent Martin Surrey and Area Commander Simon J Davis, and of course, a team from the Buxton Rural Fire Brigade crew. Today was an incredibly special and emotional day. It was especially touching to see the children of these families enjoying the playground built in the name of their dads, uncles, sons, cousins and brothers. Thank you to all that attended and to all that made this possible in the first place. The official opening to the public will be in December where the journey of this amazing memorial will be shared

03.01.2022 Buxton Fire Brigade not only exist to assist our community in the event of a situation requiring our services, but also to help reduce risk of fire events. Just like our Get Ready Weekend (which we turned into a whole month!), we as a Rural Fire Brigade need to help our community get physically ready too. This means conducting Hazard Reductions. A Hazard Reduction is where we suit up, head out and conduct a controlled burn to burn off debris and fuel on the ground to minimis...e a bushfire threat. We recently conducted a Hazard Reduction in our area and also used this as a training exercise for our newer members. Ongoing training is just as important as the Hazard Reductions themselves, so we can train the next ranks coming up to continue to serve and assist our community

01.01.2022 Grab a cuppa and have a watch/listen to our District Group Officer, Bill Beattie, have a chat about his time within the Buxton Brigade and how not only the BB has changed, but the wider RFS has changed over the many years he has been a part of it. From bush bashing in an old Bedford to saving lives in Buxton - he has done it all. Bill is a bloody legend and his stories are easy to get lost in with awe and inspiration. We feel a bit of a series coming on here. How about "Conv...ersations with Bill Beattie"?... Got a ring to it? This man has the words for it, so let's make it a thing! PS. In the time this was filmed, we had two district fire calls (which you'll hear in the film) and we had a crew arrive, load up and ship out to a fire call with a truck - not a dull moment at the old Buxton Fire Shed! ;)
