25.01.2022 A scene from the upcoming documentary, Cry of the Forests - A Western Australian Story

25.01.2022 "1250 Optus Stadiums are knocked down and bowled over every year in WA!" An astoundingly shocking statistic that most West Australians would find hard to believe - but it's true! Find out about the devastating impact deforestation not only has on our ecosystem but also WA businesses such as Pemberton Honey with this awesome video from Clean State

24.01.2022 Di Shanahan gave a seriously excellent interview on behalf of the Nannas for Native Forests on Triple M this morning - good on you, Di https://www.triplem.com.au//990968c3-819d-4f89-8a68-ac4600

24.01.2022 In David Attenborough's new documentary, he illuminates the need to halt deforestation everywhere. This quote from the film perfectly sums up the forest's role in our planet's recovery from climate change But the forests can't play that role if they're gone. So what can you do to help protect the forests? A great way to start is to sign up to join the Forests for Climate campaign team with us! ... We’ll send you a welcome pack, connect you with locals in your area and give you the tools you need to take meaningful action. 24.01.2022 Yesterday, a 350-year-old Djab Wurrung Directions Tree was torn down by the Victorian Government to make way for the $157 million Western Highway duplication, north-west of Melbourne. And why was this sacred Yellow Box torn down? Because it would save drivers THREE minutes of travel time. We will let you be the judge if that was worth it or not. ... At least 250 trees that have been deemed sacred or culturally significant are under threat by this highway plan which has already been proven to be an ineffective option. While this tragedy didn't happen in the W.A. forests, it's an important example why the custodianship of forests should be firmly in the hands of First Nation peoples. This is one of WAFA's main goals. We believe that First Nation controlled organisations should be empowered through resourcing and regulation to operate as custodians of the forests and associated ecosystems. Doing so would ensure they are returned to the rightful hands and are treated properly. To voice your opinion of this disgraceful act by the Victorian Government and to stop further destruction, the Djab Wurrung Heritage Protection Embassy is urging people to follow this link: https://www.melbournefoe.org.au/stop_work_now Justin McManus, The Age

22.01.2022 We the Nannas! Thank you for your tireless efforts in the fight for the forests

22.01.2022 MEDIA ALERT - Pressure building on Dave Kelly MP to protect WA's forests The Nannas for Native Forests will meet with Forestry Minister Hon Dave Kelly MLA tomorrow, Tuesday the 24th of November, to argue the case for the protection of WA’s Karri and Jarrah forests. There will be a mass morning tea out the front of Dumas House, where hundreds of people from across Perth and the South West are expected to join the event and stand in solidarity with the Nannas as they take thei...r message to the Minister. Nannas For Native Forests’ Mass morning tea 8:30am 10:30am Tuesday, 24th November 2020 Dumas House, 2 Havelock Street, West Perth EVENT LINK https://fb.me/e/3bhP7tR1A The event will be colourful and theatrical and include the first public performance of the Nannas’ Anthem, which was co-written by Bec Schofield of The Nomadics, singer-song-writer Miranda Aitken and the Nannas, and recorded at The Nomadics studio in Margaret River. A recording of the song is available on request. The Nannas have done something incredible, said Jess Beckerling, convener of the WA Forest Alliance, they have sounded the alarm about climate change and biodiversity decline in the South West and the urgent need to protect WA’s South West forests, and people everywhere are listening to them and joining in their call for action. Nannas get it. They’re thoughtful and compassionate, but they’re also not having any nonsense. They can see what we need to do, and they’re saying it like it is. We cannot deal with climate change without protecting forests, but here in WA where we have some of the most carbon-dense and biodiverse forests on Earth, we’re still logging and clearing native forests at a rate of 10 football fields every single day. What we’re doing to the forests is a kind of madness and it has to stop. WAFA is delighted to be joining the Nannas at their meeting with Minister Kelly to put the case for native forest protection. We’re with the Nannas: enough is enough. It’s time to protect our remaining precious native forests for climate and biodiversity, said Ms Beckerling. 22.01.2022 The Nannas for Native Forests have arrived at Dumas House

21.01.2022 news rolling in

20.01.2022 The nannas meet with the minister for forestry, Dave Kelly.

19.01.2022 Recently, we found out that mining company, Alcoa, have plans to mine Bauxite in Serpentine, Dwellingup and Jarrahdale We are furious because if Alcoa have their way, they will be allowed to mine 8,700 hectares of land (20 times the size of Kings Park!) which will threaten water supplies, put the area at greater risk of drought, increase the risk of bushfires and threaten endangered wildlife Join us on the 10th of November to help stop this impending scar on our Earth - bring your signs and your loud voices!

19.01.2022 GREAT news for the Numbats, but their battle isn't over yet! Land clearing, forest mismanagement, climate change and introduced species are all factors that this threatened species is fighting against. There's so much that can be done to help the Numbat thrive, but one of the best things we can do is preserve their habitat Every time we chop down a tree, it's the same as bulldozing a family's home. Every time we log a forest, it's the same as destroying a suburb. We must... stop this environmental genocide. STOP THE CHOP!

17.01.2022 We have just heard that police are threatening to tow all the grannies cars and charge them all $2000 in towing fees. This is completely unprecedented and totally outrageous. Please phone the Minister for Environment and Minister for Forestry right now, tell them to back the grannies - if this government was protecting these publicly owned forest, these grannies wouldn't have to be. Minister Dawson (Environment) (08) 6552-5800 Minister Kelly (Forestry) (08) 6552-6100

15.01.2022 Not only is logging our forests harming the planet, but it's also harming businesses such as Pemberton Honey who rely on the South West forests as a source of food for their bees Honey bees add up to $1.4bn in agriculture production in WA every year and that number is expected to keep growing - but this massive economic benefit for WA is under threat! The fewer trees there are, the fewer food there is for the bees and the harder it is for the honey industry to grow in a me...aningful way. To put it in perspective how damaging and unsustainable logging is for the honey industry and the wider economy, a single tonne of Jarrah firewood is worth around $300 and can only be produced by our forests once in a lifetime, if those trees are left standing one tonne of Jarrah honey is worth $30,000 and can be produced by our forests year after year

14.01.2022 A shocking sight today on the Vasse Hwy near Pemberton. How many more of our ancient Karri trees need to be cut down? How much longer will the native forest logging industry be allowed to plunge us further into a climate catastrophe? If you want this to stop, come support the Nannas for Native Forests as they meet with WA's Forestry Minister, Dave Kelly MP this Tuesday at the Mass morning tea rally Find the event here: https://fb.me/e/3bhP7tR1A... You can also help stop this right now by emailing Premier Mark McGowan through the link below. https://waforestalliance.good.do/forests/forestsforclimate/

14.01.2022 Please work with us Mark McGowan The last few months you have proved yourself to be a great leader by listening to scientist's advice and keeping our borders closed. We implore you to keep listening to scientist's advice and protect WA's forests.... Leading scientists have affirmed that humanity can no longer afford to have our forests logged and cleared if we are to take the climate catastrophe seriously. If you think our Premier should keep listening to science and work with WAFA to protect the South West forests follow this link https://wafa.org.au/join-in/#emailpremier

13.01.2022 Announcement for all those in the south-west, the event for Jane Hammond's groundbreaking documentary, Cry of the Forests is here! Why is this film so important for all West-Australians to see? Many who live in our great state have little to no idea about the atrocities committed in our forests every single day. Not only is state-sanctioned deforestation and logging permanently harming WA's most precious ecosystem, but it is exacerbating the climate crisis, edging humanity ...toward the point of no return. The film takes viewers to the heart of the forest to revel at its beauty and witness its destruction. This never before seen footage is sure to leave a lasting impact in the fight to protect our forests for climate and for life. Secure your tickets now to see the truth uncovered, hurry they will sell out fast!

11.01.2022 Spot on. Protect the forests, and reject native forest biomass. Forest protection is climate action. https://waforestalliance.good.do/forests/forestsforclimate/

However, what we need is for you to listen AND act. To remind Mr Kelly of his duty to conserve the forests, everyone who came down to Dumas House today wrote a personalised letter that has been hand-delivered to his office. ... The fight is not over yet, we will be back and we will make sure the forests are protected! If you want to join our fight Dave Kelly MP's contact details are below, send a letter, call his office, or write an email to him and say why he should act NOW and protect our forests Address: Level 8, Dumas House, 2 Havelock Street WEST PERTH WA 6005 Telephone: 61 8 6552 6100 Email: [email protected]

09.01.2022 Neroli, one of the 'Nannas for Native Forests', shares her reason for being involved at the action in Helms Forest this week. Thankyou Neroli _____ I am absolutely against logging of our native forests in WA for all the obvious reasons that have been evident for at least 20 years.... The science has been in for a long time giving very good evidence that climate change is being exacerbated by removal of trees. The dramatic loss of native species through loss of habitat in the native forests is sickening and unforgivable. We see these poor creatures being forced into urban areas that are not safe for them. While going to work I often used to count around 10 squashed animals on our local roads in our country town. Endangered ring-tailed possums, kangaroos, chuditch, snakes, lizards, birds, especially the Spring babies, etc. they have no hope. The trees also protect our streams and keep the water fresh. The natural beauty of a forest full of massive trees is sadly a thing of the past. Be aware that despite the rhetoric loggers are still cutting down huge old trees. Forests are left a mess when loggers have been through. Piles of unwanted trees, massive areas of scarified dirt roads, exposed soil and unmanaged stumps where the regrowth leaves nothing but a fire hazard. We listened to scientists’ advice on Covid 19 containment. Please listen to environmental scientists’ advice on the reasons we have to protect our native forest. Remember when whaling was stopped the economy wasn’t ruined, we all adapted. It is critical for our children’s future, the sake of our planet, to please STOP LOGGING NATIVE FORESTS NOW! Neroli Carlton (70 years old) ___ If you would like to support the Nannas for Native Forests, call the ministers or send them an email and ask for native forests to be protected. 08.01.2022 Alcoa is planning to mine Bauxite right on Perth's doorstep, threatening our fragile ecosystems and tourist hotspots! The Serpentine, Jarrahdale and Dwellingup areas are set to be the most impacted by their mining, but it isn't just these areas that will be harmed if Alcoa's plans go ahead; environmental destruction is a relentless domino effect that our planet can no longer afford. Once the Bauxite is ripped out of the Earth, the forests will never grow the same again, perm...anently damaging them Help stop Alcoa's plans, come to our rally on the 10th of November and sign our petition below! 06.01.2022 Merrilee, one of the Nannas for Native Forests, shares her inspiration for being involved at the action in Helms Forest last Monday. Thankyou Merrilee _____ Nature as Thing a Lament for our Sacred Forests... Charles Eisenstein, in his latest published essay World on Fire (https://charleseisenstein.org/essays/world-on-fire/) perfectly articulates why I raise my voice, take a stance and write about the beauty of Nature. We need to do everything we can to move away from the Growth at all Costs, Nature as Thing world-view. I am one of many millions of Human Beings who view myself interconnected with Nature. Planet Earth is alive, a breathing entity, an eco-system, the web of life. Trees and forests are not a thing for us to use, blindly unaware of every other living being within. Nature has a Right to Life as much as we do. Quote from Charles: On the most obvious level, the view of nature-as-thing greatly facilitates the clearcutting, mining, stripping, and profiteering, just as dehumanization of other people allows their exploitation and enslavement. It’s the same basic mindset. But there is another problem too: the mindset of nature-as-thing prevents us from coming into the intimacy of relationship that is necessary to tend, heal, and cocreate with it to mutual benefit. It is like the difference between a doctor who treats you impersonally, as a case, and one who sees you as a full human being... Merrilee (62 years young) ___ Tell the Ministers you support the Nannas and you want the forests protected. Email: [email protected] (Forestry) [email protected] (Environment) Or use this form if you haven’t before to send a letter to the Premier (add your wording for more impact): http://bit.ly/NativeForestLetterPremier #Nannas4NativeForests #HelmsForest #ProtectNativeForests #Forests4Climate #climate #oldgrowthgrannies #nannasfornativeforests

05.01.2022 Ruth, one of the 'Nannas for Native Forests', shares her story and her reason for being involved at the action in Helms Forest this week. Thankyou Ruth <3 _____ My father came from England when he was 19. He married my mum and had 7 children. He became a farmer. When I was a little girl my dad made a comment that has stayed in my mind ever since. He said, We have to stop cutting the trees because if we don’t, we are going to run out of water. The trees keep the moisture ali...ve. About eight years later, when I was about 14, the little creek in our town went dry. He was right, we should stop cutting down the trees. I am here from Perth to have my little say to try and help save these trees. Because if we don’t save them, not only will the creeks run dry, but we will all be without water. I am 91 in October this year, so this story has stayed with me a very long time. I don’t see things getting any better across the world though, so who is listening? We have only got to look at the dryness in our state to realize the danger ahead if we don’t take action now. So here I am because I know my dad would be proud of what we are doing here today. Ruth Carlsson (90 years old) ____ If you would like to support the grannies, call the ministers or send them an email and ask for native forests to be protected. [email protected] (Forestry) [email protected] (Environment) Or use this form if you haven’t before to send an email direct to our Premier: https://waforestalliance.good.do/forests/forestsforclimate/ #Nannas4NativeForests #HelmsForest #ProtectNativeForests #Forests4Climate #climate #oldgrowthgrannies #NannasForNativeForests

05.01.2022 Bee, one of the 'Nannas for Native Forests', shares her reason for being involved at the action in Helms Forest this week. Thankyou Bee _____ Our forests have become a shadow of what they were 200 years ago. Even so they are all that stands between us and life extinguishing climate change. Forests moderate everything said Bill Mollison. They moderate temperatures, they form the rain clouds and seed those clouds with organic particles on which rain drops form. They build ...soil and host incredible fungi which decompose the so called fuel load (which upon investigation is actually just deep and damp compost, with a very thin covering of dry leaves to protect the microbes that thrive there making soil out of leaves and twigs). I want my grandchildren to have the basics of life which vegetation provides, and to see wildlife. The logging and burning industries must stop, New figures just released show FPC Native forestry recorded a $15.48 million dollar LOSS. Enough already! Bee Winfield (61 years) ____ If you would like to support the Nannas for Native Forests, call the ministers or send them an email and ask for native forests to be protected.
