And just like you wouldn’t let them take on an entire team by themselves, it’s important that we support them when it comes to their mental health. Make the pledge not to stay on the sideline of mental health. https://youtu.be/H0t_V3FyUlI

16.01.2022 R U OK? DAY Today the 10th of September 2020 is asking all Australians to learn what to say if someone in their life says they are not OK. ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?’, is the message for R U OK? Day 2020 and will focus on building confidence and increased skills for people so they know how to navigate a conversation with someone in their life who might be struggling. Katherine Newton, CEO, R U OK?, says 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances h...ave made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. Time is one of the most valuable things we can share with the people that we care about, said Newton. When someone in your life is struggling it’s natural to ask them if they’re OK but it can sometimes be difficult to know what to say next. Our free resources include a conversation guide to help people learn what to say after Are you OK? and help break down any fears or concerns someone might be feeling when approaching a meaningful conversation with a family member, friend or colleague who might be doing it tough. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going and if you familiarise yourself with what to say after hearing ‘No, I’m not OK’ you can show genuine intent and genuinely help someone access appropriate support long before they’re in crisis, said Newton. R U OK? is encouraged by its recent data that demonstrate Australians increasingly understand how important it is for them to reach out to those around them who might be struggling. Our latest evaluation measures show that most people feel confident they know how to have a conversation with someone who might be struggling with life but 31% of Australians lack confidence or are unsure how to have a conversation with someone who is not OK, says Newton. We want to help them learn what to say after R U OK? because a conversation could change someone’s life. This year R U OK?Day coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day which will further raise awareness of the scale of suicide globally and the role that each of us can play in prevention efforts. Resources are free to download from the R U OK? website and are designed to help individuals, workplaces, schools and community groups, which this year may look different for some given the impact of COVID-19. The guide has tips, ideas and resources to help share the R U OK? message virtually and in person. If you feel something’s not quite the same with someone you know perhaps you’re aware of a significant life event they are experiencing right now or you notice a change in what they’re saying or doing take the time to genuinely ask them Are you OK? We want Australians to be confident in having a meaningful conversation and if someone says they’re not OK, make time to listen with an open mind, encourage action and regularly check in. 14.01.2022 ******Wellness Wednesday****** Small talk can make a big impact Convert down-time into mate-time this Origin Series If 2020 has shown us anything, it's the importance of supporting one another. That's why this Origin Series we’re backing mental health awareness. With mental illness affecting one in two Australians, it’s essential to check in with your mates - both on and off the field. Here’s how your actions can make a difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=froV4UmDbGw&...feature=youtu.be The idea of using some of our down-time to regularly reach out to friends, family or colleagues, has been shown to have significant benefits across the board for improving mental health. It’s as simple as texting a family member before kick-off, or checking in with a mate while you do the laundry. Whatever down-time looks like for you, remember your small talk can have a big impact. 03.01.2022 ******Wellness Wednesday****** Why is Sports Nutrition so important? At the most basic level, nutrition is important for athletes because it provides a source of energy required to perform the activity. The food we eat impacts on our strength, training, performance and recovery. Meals eaten before and after exercise are the most important in sports nutrition but you should really be careful with everything that you put into your body. As a general rule of thumb athletes shoul...d eat about two hours before exercising and this meal should be high in carbohydrates, low in fat and low to moderate in protein. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy that powers your exercise regime and protein is required to aid muscle growth and repair. After exercising you need to replace the carbohydrates you have lost and you need to ensure proper muscle recovery by including protein in your post training meal. Examples of good recovery foods include: A salad sandwich Cereal/muesli bars Fruit salad and yoghurt Junk Food: Many teenagers eat junk food every day, like chips, sweets and soft drinks. Your body, however, can’t run properly on poor fuel. Compared to a home-cooked meal, junk food (which includes fast food) is almost always: Higher in fat, particularly saturated fat Higher in salt Higher in sugar Lower in nutrients, such as calcium and iron A poor diet can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, constipation, fatigue and concentration problems even when you’re young. If you’re aiming to become a professional athlete, why would you put poor fuel in your body? See more
