15.01.2022 Meet our SMP-Candidate Donald McCall. Better known as Don. Don spends his days, part-time serving as an SMP-C (Special Ministry Pastor-in training) with Calvary and Living Water's Lutheran Church in Rockhampton and Yeppoon and is also a part-time First Aid Trainer serving various private and government agencies. Donald is a gifted man, particularly in areas of pastoral care and interpersonal skills. He spends his time training in areas of pastoral and sacramental theology, c...hurch worship, liturgical practices and developing his leadership skills under the oversight of Pastor Peter Noble, so that he might be ordained in the future (God willing!). He is a godly father figure to many of our parishioners and brings a level of wisdom and discernment to a broad range of church matters in his service. Don is married to his wonderful wife June and has one daughter, Anna, and three grandchildren. In his down time he loves spending time with his Bee Hives, making honey, volunteering with the Lion's Club and going on ocean cruises. A fun fact about Don is his father was born in 1888! Yes you heard correct-- 1888! 12.01.2022 Let me introduce you to Miss Mavis Schwartz. Today is a sad day as Miss Schwartz is leaving our congregation to move to Kennedy, QLD. While we farewelled her publically with sadness and joy, I thought I'd share a little bit about her life with you all with her permission. Mavis is one of the longest living members of Calvary Lutheran Church, Rockhampton, having joined Calvary in 1955 when the great flood of Rockhampton occurred. She was born in Marburg. Grew up in Glenmorgan...vale Confirmed in Fernvale, near brisbane and has been a member of Calvary since, 1955 (a member here for over 65 years. Wow!) Her favourite memory at Calvary, she says; "It was before we bought the current church on Burnett st. There was a clean up day at the old church on Berseker street. We cleaned out some trees to go to the tip and one was full of green ants in a tree we were cleaning out. And on the way to the dump the green ants got into the car, the cab of the Ute. They were all over us! I'll never forget it. I guess it was a labour of love for the Lord!" Mavis' favourite Bible verse is Joshua 24:15b "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord!" God bless you and keep you Mavis. You are a gift to God's Church. You have blessed so many people through your serving and fellowship here at Calvary. We will remember you in our prayers and know that you will be a blessing to your next congregation wherever God calls you. We love you and will miss you.
