23.01.2022 Peeps, use your noggin. Camden seems to be very busy with people standing and walking too close to each other - if you are home from school - please stay home! Get a take-away coffee - tap and pay. Be kind and smile at each other.... But remember - social distancing.....

23.01.2022 Why is there always, always disappointment in the actions of subterfuge? Why does the State LNP not value land, fresh water, community living....

21.01.2022 Wash your hands folks, properly (not just a splash)...

21.01.2022 STOP THE HYPOCRISY. Every time Sydney experiences a deadly heat wave, the Planning Minister announces yet another plan to plant more trees. In the meantime, the... draft Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan for Western Sydney proposes wiping out over 1,000 hectares of critically endangered Cumberland Plain Woodlands and 70% of koala habitat in the hottest part of Sydney. "Planning Minister Rob Stokes says homeowners should plant exotic trees as well as native species around their homes as the state government pushes to boost tree canopy cover and combat urban heat across Sydney. The government will on Tuesday announce $10 million in funding to help 30 councils plant 40,000 trees in Parramatta and Miranda, and fast-growing parts of Camden, Campbelltown, Blacktown and Hawkesbury."

19.01.2022 Unbelievable - really! - just coming out of drought - we know the impact of these decisions - write to Premier and local MP (for what it's worth) and say that the water reservoir resources are precious!

18.01.2022 Well,....after 155 years in Camden, Westpac is shutting up shop - letters sent out to customers - no correspondence entered into - and it is all happening very quickly! A tragedy! If you believe Camden Westpac should stay open, send a quick message or text to Mr Ken Lee, Regional Manager, Greater Sydney Area, on 0402 976 255. Why not support a local community - as indeed Westpac has previously been doing - the Camden staff know their customers and their needs and are always ready to help and even stay after hours;

18.01.2022 Ain't this the truth!

18.01.2022 What do you think of the new toll(s)?

17.01.2022 Have you been to any of these places? - Perhaps go and get tested....

17.01.2022 It appears that the "favoured people" approach happens at more than the local government level.....Camden Council Liberal Councillors are just "fitting in". Why do we as residents and citizens allow this to keep on happening?

16.01.2022 And this is why independence is vital - poor residents, poor taxpayers, unbelievable (but not really!).........

16.01.2022 WHO, WHAT, WHERE As NSW Treasury and Dept of Planning manoeuvre the carriages for a fast track project approvals process on the COVID-19 express train there's l...ots of movement at the stations. Lucy Turnbull, the Greater Sydney Commission Chief Commissioner has stepped down and into the driver's seat moves the former Economic Commissioner Geoff Roberts. His Linkedin profile informs us that Geoff will "retain his Global Head of Relationships role for the NSW Government within the NSW TREASURY cluster. The recent URBAN TASKFORCE media release warmly welcomed Geoff Roberts, commenting "It is time for an absolute focus on jobs, investment and economic recovery. If this means the strategic plans need to be flexibly applied, then so be it". BPN readers will remember URBAN TASKFORCE's recent article about the GSC's drive for "a comprehensive suite of strategic planning documents" that gave "Councils a mandate to slow their assessment processes down and wait for these strategic documents to be completed". The NSW Government provided several Sydney councils with millions of dollars to fast track their Local Strategic Plans and reduce the wait time. In another recent move the PROPERTY COUNCIL's deputy executive director in NSW has taken leave without pay to undertake a three-month role as executive director of the COVID-19 response (stakeholder engagement ie developers and government) at the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. Over the next few months we must all keep an eye on the developments featured in the Urban Taskforce fast-track list. If you don't think your local project should be on that list because of significant planning or environmental issues then now is the time to tell your local Members.

14.01.2022 A bit of reason folks.....

13.01.2022 Looks like the Morrison government is set to use a draconian building code used to govern government contracts with the building industry to prevent environmen...tal groups from implementing secondary boycotts. "It a sign the government is looking for innovative ways to implement Scott Morrison’s threat to crack down on environmental protests, the attorney general, Christian Porter, has sought views on whether the federal building code could be used to prevent multiple secondary/environmental boycott demands and behaviour. The question is contained in an industrial relations discussion paper on the code, released on Tuesday. The code, last updated in 2016, governs the federal government’s engagement with construction companies and is usually used to influence industrial conditions and the role of unions, rather than environmental groups."

13.01.2022 Wow! A lot to digest in another incisive article by Elizabeth Farrelly: "There’s a sense that if, as a government, you’re not ruthlessly profit-focussed, you’re... not doing it properly. Such governments seem almost ashamed of any impulses they might accidentally have towards fairness, beauty or decency." How shockingly true! "Pride also drives our government’s desire to seem consultative while excluding from the conversation all possible dissent. And although cities are nine-tenths shaped by emotion, desire and belief, prideful governments encourage us to see cities as merely technical entities, shaped by numbers dollars, densities and traffic flows. This allows them to affect "consultation" while resisting actual engagement...Under avarice comes all examples of active government corruption but also market-mindedness, driving the disgraceful sell-offs of Sydney’s treasured and irreplaceable sandstone buildings for a quick buck, the proposed privatisation of Cockatoo Island and the knock-down-rebuild of perfectly good and largely underutilised public assets like the Allianz stadium for newer, bigger versions that prioritise private commercial interests."

12.01.2022 WHY IS THE BEREJIKLIAN GOVERNMENT SO INTENT ON PUTTING OUR ENVIRONMENT AT RISK? Here's another sorry example of how the Government is weakening environmental pr...otections before calling for scientific studies or in this case consulting with the park service. "The global conservation status of a NSW marine park is at risk after the Berejiklian government weakened its sanctuary status without consultation to allow recreational fishing, documents show. Montague Island, located off the South Coast, was among the first 25 sites to be granted so-called Green Listing by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Documents obtained under freedom of information show both National Parks and IUCN raised concerns about the impact of easing protection."

10.01.2022 Working from home? Some tips......

07.01.2022 Why is this not surprising?......

07.01.2022 No Brainer really - how is Camden Council addressing theurban heat island effect - do they insist on tree planting? Do they allow developers just to raze the land on a broad scale basis? Could Council condition that trees are not removed until the individual lot application for a dwelling is put forward? How could Camden Council do it better? Perhaps take the developer's hand out of the glove and make decisions for the greater good? Hmmmm.........

05.01.2022 Wash your hands people - with soap and water - remember Nonna's advice

04.01.2022 WESTERN SYDNEY JOB LOSS, BIG DEVELOPER'S GAIN In yet another slap in the face for Western Sydney residents, a site they were promised would be developed as an e...mployment hub with thousands of jobs has been proposed for residential development as part of the fast-track Tranche 6. Development giant Lendlease had previously committed to providing the employment zone as part of its development of the former ADI site at St Marys. Local residents say they would rather have the jobs than more houses in an eye-opening report by NewsLocal state political reporter Jake McCallum into how Lendlease proposes to renege on its commitment to the people of Western Sydney https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//501458c936064cbf0b23492 The Department of Planning said that no one was interested in developing for non-residential employment but that there's interest in residential development. Duh! Hasn't anyone told DPIE that's because there's more money for the big end of town in residential developments? Of course they'd prefer to build those rather than developing employment hubs for residents. BPN readers will know that with the proposal's inclusion on the Tranche list, the locals' loss of job opportunities is almost a foregone conclusion. The Tranches are fast becoming a licence to give $billions to billionaires instead of job opportunities to support the pandemic recovery. 02.01.2022 As the Guardian's Katharine Murphy writes, can the Prime Minister Scott Morrison keep dismissing the creation of a federal integrity commission as a fringe iss...ue given the problems keep piling up? The sports rort saga, the Badgery's Creek land deal, Robodebt, to name but a few examples. "The government had an exposure draft of its preferred legislation ready in January this year. While the draft was ready, the attorney general proffered another excuse in January for why he would be hastening slowly. Rather than starting the consultation process during the holiday period, which is not an ideal time to start a process of public scrutiny, I have decided to release the full 300-plus pages of the draft early in the new year, Christian Porter said back then. Guys, don’t you know it’s Christmas? Porter has been one of the busiest cabinet ministers during the pandemic. I’ve witnessed his frenetic juggling of responsibilities ranging from emergency public health regulations to reforming labour market rules allowing businesses to function during the crisis. When parliament sits, Porter runs the government’s tactics too."
