20.01.2022 The storage thing really caught on. We received a request to build a Coat/Hat/Bag/Shoe and just about anything else rack. The client made it easy by providing a design, and yes, those bottom shelves are all different little pieces of wood. We love it and so does she! A specific request was made to leave the wood in its raw state for now and our client will involve herself with applying timber oil as a bit of a project.
11.01.2022 Never a dull moment at C & J's. "Can you demolish my old kitchen and design and install a new one; we don't have enough preparation space? By the way, we like doing dishes and are happy with our Electric Range. Did we mention that we like our existing tiles and no, we don't need new taps. Plus, we would like you to install a new kitchen blind, it is a bit bright in the mornings and...." Sure! We are always happy to help and everyone seemed happy with Ikea, particularly the corner cupboard with a revolving carousel (just right for the client's saucepans). We also did a bit of modification to an existing overhead cupboard by way of new paint and matching doors. Now everything matches and our client has a cost effective solution that works for them!
10.01.2022 As for the back, or laundry door - we received a brief to source a new "solid" door that would enhance the appearance of the house. We presented our choice, a beautiful Merbau door and it was approved by the clients with a big tick of approval! It certainly is solid (very heavy!). The new door received five coats of Integrain varnish (with sanding between every coat) fitted new hinges (due to the door weight), cleaned up the door furniture, installed a new pet door and a new tricky automatic door seal (just like the front door), plus an internal blind and I even polished the external shower taps located near to the back step. It certainly has lifted the appearance of the back part of the house!
03.01.2022 "We would like a new front door and a back one too." Okay, lets talk. A beautiful period house built in 1886 is crying out for a refurbished front door - it doesn't need a new one. C & J's to the rescue. A century worth of paint was stripped safely from the door, the mouldings removed for individual attention and sympathetic restoration and the brass door hardware put aside for a bit of a polish later. We saved those hand made nails for the owners - they may form a later project and are a real talking point, but were a bit too soft for further use. We also managed to source original Baldwin 4" 200 Style Cast Iron door hinges to replace the cracked ones that were holding the door in place - that is attention to detail! More photos to come....
02.01.2022 Last week I posted the "before photos" of the front door. Now we are proud to reveal the finished product. We think it looks fantastic!
