14.01.2022 INCOME TAX RELIEF ON STANDBY The Coalition took an income tax break to the election and is under pressure to push the relief through parliament to stimulate spe...nding and boost the economy. When passed, lower and middle-income earners will get a tax break of up to $1080 for single earners or up to $2160 for dual income families as early as July 1 after lodging a tax return. The tax cuts include a three-stage $158 billion plan, with the final stage expected to be contested by the Opposition when parliament resumes on July 2. What does this mean for you?? If you get your tax done early this year there is a real possibility that the expected refund will be different to the final result. The ATO has said that they will process refunds only from the 16th July 2019 and if the new Tax Measures pass parliament after this date they will then refund your applicable rebates after your original refunds are paid. We are watching and waiting for any developments in this area and will let all our clients know when things are passed and the resulting differences in their refunds. We are filling up fast for appointments for July so call us now and make your appointment and when things change we will let you know.

04.01.2022 RENT RELIEF PACKAGE ANNOUNCED The Federal Government has announced a rent relief package for commercial tenants affected by COVID-19. The package is a key part of the governments hibernation strategy. Under the scheme, landlords will be instructed to reduce their commercial tenants rent in proportion to the tenants lost revenue due to the impact of COVID-19. ... A mandatory code will apply to tenancies including retail, office and industrial: where the tenant or landlord is eligible for the JobKeeper program where businesses have a turnover of $50 million or less. The code will be rolled out and implemented in each state and territory and also stipulates: landlords must not terminate the lease or draw into a tenants security bond, likewise, tenants must not terminate the lease. The scheme will be implemented through a combination of rent waivers and deferrals. The waivers will have to account for 50% of the reduction in business and deferrals (payments that will need to be paid but can be put off) must be spread over the remaining lease term, but for no less than 24 months. The purpose of the code is to impose a set of good faith leasing principles to commercial tenancies (including retail, office and industrial) between owners, operators, landlords and their tenants. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said of the scheme: "This preserves the lease, it preserves the relationship, it keeps the tenant in the property." The National Cabinet also expects Australian and foreign banks, along with other financial institutions operating in Australia to support landlords and tenants with appropriate flexibility as the code is implemented. 03.01.2022 Image Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash has released the following update to assist Small Businesses and Households impacted by COVID-19 Bridging Funding for JobKeeper... Australian banks are playing a vitally important role in bridging the finance that businesses need to pay their staff ahead of receiving the first JobKeeper Payment in the first week of May. It is an integrity measure that businesses pay their staff before receiving the JobKeeper Payment. On 23 April 2020, the Treasurer announced the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), National Australia Bank (NAB), Westpac and ANZ banks agreed to establish dedicated hotlines for their customers to call to receive the bridging finance necessary to pay their staff ahead of receiving the JobKeeper Payment. The hotlines are as follows: CBA: 13 26 07 ANZ: 1800 571 123 NAB: 1800 JOBKEEPER Westpac: 1300 731 073 and Westpacs subsidiaries; St George: 1300 730 196 Bank of Melbourne: 1300 784 873 Bank SA: 1300 669 472 The banks have also agreed to bring to the front of the queue all bridging finance applications. This means any business that is eligible for the JobKeeper Payment can now ring the dedicated hotline for the bank and ask for the bridging finance necessary to pay their staff. The banks know their customers. They know these businesses. The banks need to stand by these businesses in their time of greatest need and that is now. The ATO have also set out detailed guidance on eligibility and enrolment for the JobKeeper Payment.
