25.01.2022 Capstone College students put on a banquet. This is an enormous achievement as all our students are young people who have not been able to continue in mainstream schooling. Pride and achievement in overcoming is so important. Congratualtions to all. #poatina #poatinavillage

14.01.2022 Doing Senior College Differently The Capstone's Senior College provides a selection of TCE subjects and opportunities within the safe and supportive culture of a Special Assistance School. Our unique community approach here in Poatina, means that all our students will have access to great teachers, support staff and guest specialists for their education.... Differences Students do a maximin of 3 subjects at any one time. Subjects completed in shorter times due to doubling face to face teaching time. This enables: students to enrol at different entry points in a year. completion of subjects quicker less risk when life circumstances interrupt. TCE achieved even with Interrupted learning patterns over more than 2 years if needed The ability to qualify for TCE, TCAE and limited ATAR level subjects. Flexible learning off site available i.e. VET and community courses. Extra hours allocated to mandatory hours to allow for attendance and health issues the harder the subject the more extra hours allocated. Small subject class sizes allows students greater real choice of subjects. Full time youth and community worker dedicated to Senior students. Our learning areas are well resourced with staffing, facilities, computers, internet access and all the required materials for students to do their work. Specialist subjects available include: Hot Glass and Silversmithing; Dance; Food and Hospitality; Tasmanian Aboriginal studies; Community and Family services; Environmental Sciences; along with a range of regular subjects at differing levels of difficulty. We have over 40 subjects on our scope for years 11 and 12. Please note that subject availability is determined by student choice and demand. We also endeavour to provide appropriately qualified staff for all our subjects.

09.01.2022 Jacob* started attending Capstone College Tasmania last year as a year 9 student. Previously school had been a place where Jacob struggled with bullies. Jacob h...ad also taken on the role of carer for his Mum, missing out on a lot of schooling. Capstone’s hands on learning has been perfect for Jacob. Over the past term we have supported Jacob through a unit called Learn to Learn, helping students develop the resiliency and adaptability to thrive in a changing world. Capstone has had such a profound impact on his life, that Jacob and his mum chose to move to Poatina! It’s beautiful seeing them thrive and contribute to this supportive community. *name changed to protect identity of young person
