25.01.2022 Catholic Cemeteries + Crematoria have reviewed the All Souls Day masses in line with current NSW Health guidance. This decision has not been easy, given our religious observations for this holy day, however it is an important one to ensure the health and safety of our families and communities. As a result, please note that All Souls Day masses across all our cemetery locations have been cancelled. In place of these events, a pre-recorded mass will be available on our... website on 2nd November that can be viewed at any time at your convenience. For those visiting graves over the All Souls Day weekend, please note that under the public health order no more than 20 people can gather outside in a public place. We thank you for your understanding. See more

24.01.2022 Did you know that 70% of people are reluctant to think about death or make plans for how they want to go? In recognition of #DyingToKnowDay, the Department of Planning have released a report and toolkit to empower people to consider planning funerals ahead of time and ease the burden on them and their families. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/dsYnhX5 If you'd like a free planning resource to get you started, send us a PM or click on the link below for more information https://loom.ly/yuXWcLU

21.01.2022 Todays Feast Day we acknowledge Saint Padre Pio, the Patron Saint of adolescents. Padre Pio became famous for exhibiting stigmata for most of his life. He was known for his piety, charity and the quality of his preaching. He famously advised, "Pray, hope and don't worry." The garden crypts at Liverpool Cemetery are named in his honour. ... His Requiem Mass in Italy was attended by over 100,000 people and he was canonised by Pope John Paul II in 2002. https://loom.ly/ZEZ8Tpc

18.01.2022 Today is the feast day of Mary MacKillop - St Mary of the Cross, Australia's first and only saint. MacKillop helped found the Sisters of St Joseph who established a number of welfare groups and schools in Australia and New Zealand that focused on educating the rural poor. Mary's desire to help those in need have left a legacy that lasts to this day. Australia Post issued an official postage stamp to recognise MacKillop's in 1985, the Sisters of St Joseph approached one o...f Australia's foremost rose growers to develop the Mary MacKillop Rose and in 2000, a Sydney Harbour SuperCat ferry was named after MacKillop. This year is particularly special because it is the 10 year anniversary since Mary was canonised as Australias first Saint in October 2010. People from many cultures and from all walks of life have been inspired by her example of faith, service and love for all. See more

06.01.2022 Welcome to the month of August! Augusts birth flower gets its name from the Latin gladius, meaning sword, which is why you may have heard it called sword-lily. The name, in fact is a reference to the sword-swinging gladiators of ancient Rome. Back then, when gladiators literally fought to the death in the arena, the victor was showered in gladioli. It is for this reason that gladioli are said to embody strength, generosity and moral integrity.

02.01.2022 Welcome to September and the official start to Spring!! Septembers birth flower is the aster which is said to represent both love and daintiness. The flowers are also associated with wisdom, valour and faith, making them a great choice for dear friends and family members. Reminiscent of a daisy, the aster is named after the Greek word for star and, if you look at the shape of the flower, its clear to see why.

This year, due to restrictions our servic...e was attended by Grief Care and Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria staff only. We invite you to gather as a community or privately to watch, reflect and pray with us, as Bishop Terry Brady, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney, leads this recorded service. https://loom.ly/GsrX5Hw

01.01.2022 A November birthday just begs to be celebrated with a bouquet of chrysanthemums this month’s birth flower. First cultivated in China in the 15th century BC, the chrysanthemum has a long and fascinating history. Today it is one of the world’s most popular cut-flowers, owing to its variety and versatility. Chrysanthemums come in a whole host of different colours, each one with their own symbolic meaning. Typically though, November’s birth flower represents friendship and ...well-wishing. Chrysanthemums are also thought to bring good luck and joy into the home. In Japan, the flower is so revered it has a special day dedicated to its honour. Chrysanthemum Day, also known as the Festival of Happiness, is celebrated on 9th September annually. See more
