25.01.2022 We at CEDAR Centre are taking on new applications for our October intake of The Diversity Project! The Diversity Project is a program that seeks to aid participants from a range of different backgrounds in achieving a leg-up for securing employment in Toowoomba’s ever-changing workforce. How is this achieved? Via community involvement, the completion of a Certificate I in Business, and 20 weeks of full-time employment. This project, which is proudly supported by the Quee...nsland Government, aids 10 individuals in securing long term employment, through completion of a work skills traineeship. If this traineeship sounds interesting to you, please email your resume and a cover letter stating why you’d like to participate in this program through to [email protected] For additional enquiries, please call us on: 07 4512 6770 #skillingqueenslanders

20.01.2022 Kicking off on just our second week of The Diversity Project. The group all brought food into the office reflective of their cultures. With the cohort all pitching in together to bring food to the office, the rest of the office was also treated to a wonderful lunch including: salads, spinach dishes, dolma, couscous, palaua, bariani, rendang, noodles, pizza rolls, tim tams, mudcake and then of course, party pies! We’re so thankful for Bronwen, Mohamed, Farhad, Thianni, Jasmin,... Madison, Renas, Louie, Hadi and Salih for putting this wonderful lunch on for CEDAR Centre! We’re especially thankful for Nancy who rallied everyone together and made this happen. Pictured below: Hadi, Farhad and Renas explaining to the Centre the food that they brought. #toowoombaliving #toowoombaregion #toowoombacommunity #mytoowoomba #educationforall #teachingandlearning #inclusiveeducation #education #inclusive #educationispower #futureleaders #skillingqueenslanders #skillingqueenslandersforwork

19.01.2022 - Daniel Schmaling - Finalist for 2020 Queensland Training Regional Awards: Category - School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year I am a Year 12 student in Toowoomba and started my Traineeship in Education Support mid-2018 while in Year 10. My RTO is CEDAR Centre in Toowoomba. The experiences and skills I have gained during my traineeship have helped me grow both personally and professionally. The training I have received has helped solidify my interest in working with ...children and young people. Over the last eight months I have had to interrupt my traineeship as I was diagnosed with cancer. My employer and training provider have been exceptionally supportive while I have undergone treatment. I am confident that the skills I have gained during my traineeship will make me very employable and capable of becoming a valued member of the workforce. #qta2020 See more

15.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS to CEDAR Centre's 2020 Queensland Training Awards Winners, Equity VET Student of the Year Mark Thomas, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Shauna Fisher, from our General Manager and the rest of the CEDAR Centre team! While we weren’t able to celebrate at the awards night in Roma this year we still held an event for our finalists here at CEDAR Centre to celebrate their success! Thank you to Ben & Co for providing catering for the eve...nt. Here’s what Mark Thomas had to say in his nomination: Having completed the Certificate III in Community Services at CEDAR Centre and achieved over 144 hours of work placement it is without a doubt that the greatest thing I have learnt has been my capacity for compassion towards others. I cannot think of a more valuable quality to have in Community Services. To exercise compassion towards another person is an immensely rewarding freedom. This underscores the intrinsic value I have longed to experience in my career which eluded me during my twenty years working in Retail and Hospitality. # QTA2020 Sunrise Way

13.01.2022 - Mark Thomas - Finalist for 2020 Queensland Training Regional Awards: Category - Equity VET Student of the Year I chose to complete a Certificate III in Community Services because I knew I was finally ready to give back to the community. I felt the Certificate III in Community Services was an introductory course into a broader industry and wanted that broad overview of the industry. I chose CEDAR Centre because of the community-minded approach to learning. I felt that was... important, it was almost like it was mirroring what the course teaches: community focus. Rather than an institution, I liked the community-based idea. In doing the course, it opened my eyes to the qualities and knowledge I already had, but gave insight into how to approach people who need assistance with dignity. And I discovered something that I wouldn’t have without doing the vocational placement; that I have a well of compassion in me that I never knew was there. 11.01.2022 After a fantastic first couple weeks of The Diversity Project, the group were allowed some time to interact with one another and relax one afternoon. Some of the boys decided to play dominos- resulting in a great many loud clicking noises as their tiles would triumphantly slam the table. Hadi, Renas, Louie and Farhad were percussion experts for that afternoon! #toowoombaliving #toowoombaregion #toowoombacommunity #mytoowoomba #educationforall #teachingandlearning #inclusiveeducation #education #inclusive #educationispower #futureleaders #skillingqueenslanders #skillingqueenslandersforwork

11.01.2022 Participants of The Diversity Project have recently learnt that even within the hustle and bustle of an office environment, sometimes more hands on tasks come across our tables! Although they were only required to assist us in cleaning up the garden bed area, Louie took extra special measures to ensure no stone was left unturned. We appreciate the effort Louie! But if we are knocking down cobwebs, next time we need to make sure our community support, Michael (an arachnophobe) is a bit further away! #toowoombaliving #toowoombaregion #toowoombacommunity #mytoowoomba #educationforall #teachingandlearning #inclusiveeducation #education #inclusive #educationispower #futureleaders #skillingqueenslanders #skillingqueenslandersforwork

11.01.2022 A very important reminder that interview spots for The Diversity Project are filling up fast! If you're still interested in putting your hat in the ring, please email your resume through to [email protected] for consideration. Have a fantastic day!

09.01.2022 - Jason Quattromani - Finalist for 2020 Queensland Training Regional Awards: Category - Vocational Student of the Year My name is Jason Quattromani, I studied a Certificate III in Individual Support at CEDAR Centre in Toowoomba. I chose to study Individual support as I was volunteering at Toowoomba Clubhouse which is a health and community organisation. I came to CEDAR Centre where they told me about their Engaging Communities for Learning program through which I could und...ertake a course in Individual Support. I looked through the course outline and felt like the content would be relevant to me and what I wanted to achieve in the future - which was to work within the local Toowoomba community supporting others. I felt that learning through VET was ideal for me as it gave me opportunities throughout the learning process to undertake hands-on activities and really test out what I was learning and how it worked in practical situations. Additionally, that practical experience allowed me to demonstrate what I was capable of to an employer and was directly responsible for me finding long term employment after I completed my training. 07.01.2022 Following our fantastic multicultural lunch (hosted by The Diversity Project) we were treated to hearing a group of the participants perform songs in their native tongue. Many of them very quickly overcame their anxieties and nerves to bring the Centre a fantastic display that we were privileged to hear. This video showcased TDP trainees, Salih and Farhad leading our staff in song. They have shown excitement towards learning a new song to present to us come the next multicultural lunch! #toowoombaliving #toowoombaregion #toowoombacommunity #mytoowoomba #educationforall #teachingandlearning #inclusiveeducation #education #inclusive #educationispower #futureleaders #skillingqueenslanders #skillingqueenslandersforwork

02.01.2022 The Diversity Project | Our Centre, Our Students My name is Saadon Baraka Rasho. I was born in Iraq and came to Toowoomba a bit over a year ago. I graduated high school in 2015 in Iraq and my favourite subject was science. I started my University degree in Duhok, Iraq with college level Chemistry Science. I studied in this field for about three years, in the last year of my degree, my family finally had the opportunity to migrate to Australia. When I arrived in Australia, ev...erything looked so different and new to me. For the past 14 months I’ve embraced the Australian way of life. I’ve started a certificate III at TAFE in 2019 in English language, recently I also commenced with CEDAR Centre as a Trainee within The Diversity Project studying Certificate I in Business. The reason I started this course was to improve my English, computer skills and gain access to a blue card. After this course, I wish to enter the workforce. #toowoombaliving #toowoombaregion #toowoombacommunity #mytoowoomba #educationforall #teachingandlearning #inclusiveeducation #education #inclusive #educationispower #futureleaders #skillingqueenslanders #skillingqueenslandersforwork See more
