25.01.2022 Has your business made a tax loss this year? A tax loss is when the total deductions you can claim, excluding gifts and donations, are greater than your total income for an income year. If your business makes a tax loss, you may be able to: - offset the loss in the same income year against other assessable income, or - carry forward the loss and claim it as a business deduction in a later year.... If youre a sole trader or in a partnership and want to offset a tax loss, first check if you meet at least one of the non-commercial losses requirements. If you do meet the requirements, then you can offset the loss against other assessable income (such as salary or investment income) in the same income year. If you dont meet the requirements, you can defer the loss or carry it forward to future years. For example, you can offset it when you next make a profit. If your business is a company, you can generally choose the year you want to claim a deduction. Remember, registered tax agents and BAS agents can help you with your tax.

24.01.2022 Great news for small business! Legislation to implement the Payment Times Reporting Scheme was recently passed by the Senate, which will put every big business on notice. Under the scheme, large businesses and applicable government enterprises with a total annual income of over $100 million will have to report publicly on how and when they pay their small business suppliers. This scheme will provide unprecedented transparency and will show Australians how big businesses pay t...heir suppliers. This transparency will help small businesses make more informed decisions about who they do business with, and the general public can make better decisions about the large businesses they purchase from. The scheme will begin on 1 January 2021.

22.01.2022 #JobKeeper The JobKeeper scheme has been extended from 28 September 2020 until 28 March 2021. There are two separate extension periods. For each extension period, an additional actual decline in turnover test applies and the rate of the JobKeeper payment is different. The extension periods are:... - Extension 1: from 28 September 2020 to 3 January 2021 - Extension 2: from 4 January 2021 to 28 March 2021 The rate of the JobKeeper payment in each extension period will depend on the number of hours: - An eligible employee works, or - An eligible business participant is actively engaged in the business. For more information, please follow the link https://www.ato.gov.au//J/JobKeeper-extension-announcement

22.01.2022 Have you received a government payment or grant? If your business has received a grant or payment from the Australian Government or a state or territory government, you may need to include it in your tax return. Some grants and payments are assessable income and so need to be included in your tax return. Grants and payments that are assessable income include: JobKeeper payments, fuel tax credits or product stewardship for oil benefit.... Wine equalisation tax producer rebate. Grants, such as an amount you receive under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program. Subsidies for carrying on a business. There are some government grants and payments that you do not need to pay tax on. One example of this is the cash flow boost. How and where you report assessable grants and payments in your tax return will depend on your business structure. For more information contact your accountant, tax or BAS agents.

Updating your ABN details might be the last thing on your mind, but it's important to keep these contact details up to date in case of a disaster or emergency in your area.
