"Some of the most compassionate people I know, are the toughest, the most determined & the most uncompromising"... "Is an attitude, an awareness, towards everyone, including ourselves" Is not only wanting to relieve suffering, it is the ability to do something about it & doing it. #bethechange you want to see.

24.01.2022 2020 is the year of giving; giving back, paying forward.

23.01.2022 Wow! A just over a year (not that I need reasons to celebrate) that went fast. Change is not always easy, if it were, we probably would have done it already. I enjoy nothing more than supporting people with the scientific principles of changing behaviour, in developing new skills, changing socially significant behaviours. ... So much reading at present. Currently reading 'The Madness of Australian Child Protection' by Jeremy Sammut, 'Confronting Cruelty' Scott & Swain & re reading some incredibly inspiring & interesting articles on forensic behavioural science. As we learn more, we have the capacity to do more. Knowledge, learning, information, is a valuable resource for change to occur. What are you reading at present? Big thank you for your support & encouragement. NB: Don't forget the Wimmera Creative Writing Competition for 12-18 year olds (closing soon) & the International Women's Day Breakfast! Look forward to seeing loads of familiar faces :)

21.01.2022 One of the interesting things I see & experience is the complicated & disempowering approach to changing behaviour. Let's keep this people friendly & still comply with ethical responsibilities. I came across this little article with some great tips - not an ABA article as such, great ideas for consideration.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to the winners & all the participants in the Wimmera Creative Writing Competition for International Womens Day 2020 #eachforequal Olivia, Imiggin, Katiana & Kianah. It takes courage to write about the things that matter & Im in awe of the young people in our communities, their insight is invaluable, if we are to create a future they will be guardians of, we must listen to their perspectives. It is their future in the years to come & its vital we listen to t...heir views, concerns & ideas for changing behaviours. Well done every one, the quality, fantastic

18.01.2022 Now that we're a few weeks into the school year, you may have noticed that the novelty of going to school each day is starting to wear off for your children. Th...e school day is full of structure, rules, new and challenging activities and interactions with teachers and peers. Children are expected to stay calm, follow instructions and maintain their concentration, so it's no wonder that many of us face the dreaded after school meltdown when they finally have a chance to let it all out at home. We have some great tips for supporting children through after school meltdowns, as well as some simple strategies to better understand your child's feelings to try and prevent them from happening in the first place. Check it out here: https://www.learninglinks.org.au/how-to-help-children-thro/

17.01.2022 It was in 1913 when Gandhi published his words, creating a ripple across the world now repeated & chanted ....be the change'. It's our mantra here at Sparks Behaviour Change Consulting. As a yogi & a behaviour analyst, Tully believes if change is to occur, we have the power ourselves to be the change we seek (although sometimes having the support of a professional who understands behaviour, can make that path easier to navigate!). It was his words We but mirror the world. A...ll the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change." We can create change, all of us, any of us. If you are like me & love writing & submitting an entry into our creative writing competition, carry a notebook wherever you go. Write on trains, on buses, on planes, waiting for people, waiting in line. Write the stories of others. Write the truth. Write because it just has to be said. Write because you have a story waiting to be told. Write not because it has to be neat or the spelling has to be perfect, write because you can! I've been writing for a very long time & passionate about encouraging others to speak up & stand up about things that matter. This picture looks like my notebooks I've collected for over 40 years. Starting with poetry, journals, essays & my first published article in an International journal. I've been having my say every single moment I get! From my first journalist friend, sharing together in London over 30 years ago, listening to Arch Bishop Tutu share his passionate words on releasing Nelson Mandela; to the many writers, authors, publishers, student friends in my first writing course, all I've learned from, their words have always had this transformative way of creating change, change in me. Words create change. You can do it! Yes you can! Be the change :)

16.01.2022 Thank you for the reminder! Here are the parent routine (a bit of fun & giggles) charts I had mentioned previously. #bethechange

14.01.2022 Socially significant behaviours are not limited to diagnoses. The environment today for young people has so many influences.

14.01.2022 Trauma informed is a term coined to highlight the importance of understanding pattern & history on current behaviour. As professionals in ABA whose work is grounded in data & information on the what, when, why & how behaviour occurs, understanding behaviour shouldnt require another term. Respecting & acknowledging history, understanding the behaviours within society impacting on individual behaviours, racism, discrimination, can help to better inform those who plan, implement & support families to achieve the outcomes they seek & may need. #bethechange #blacklivesmatter

06.01.2022 Be the change. The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect & Exploitation of People with a Disability will be heading to Victoria later this year. Have your say, speak up & speak loud about your experiences in Australia. ... Last night I finalised my submission & booked a private hearing. You can have your words public or confidential. You can speak about organisational neglect & exploitation, your own experiences, as a carer, a parent, an individual with a disability. If there is to be change, then it comes from those who can, doing what they can, when they can - be the change.

05.01.2022 The words, "diversity" and "equity" are not interchangeable. Here's why! #SistersWhoLead

03.01.2022 Thank you & sincere appreciation Rachel for reminding me, real change speaks truth & comes from the heart. I was fortunate to be a student of Rachel, at RMIT in Melbourne some years ago, rekindling my childhood dream. Change can come from one person, we can all make a difference.... On the 2020 International Womens Day, feeling fortunate to have shared in learning from amazing, creative & authentic women from around the world.
