16.01.2022 Charley’s Place Kindergarten Our university-qualified educators are passionate about helping children learn through play so they can reach their full potential. We value children and invest in quality training and professional development for our educators. In Kindergarten we often react to spontaneous learning activities that are relevant to the child, however, we are guided overall by the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines. In this way, the whole child is nurtured..., and provided with opportunities to develop academically, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Our belief is: Kindergarten is an integral part of the lifelong learning process Learning is dependent upon the quality and nature of the relationships within the Kindergarten environment Children learn best by being involved in meaningful experiences in a flexible environment Children learn when they are intrinsically motivated and have access to quality materials and resources Teachers support and encourage learning at all levels Collaboration and communication with families supports the learning process. 08.01.2022 #RemembranceDay Why is this day special to Australians? At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surre...nder. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war dead. On the first anniversary of the armistice in 1919 two minutes' silence was instituted as part of the main commemorative ceremony at the new Cenotaph in London. The silence was proposed by Australian journalist Edward Honey, who was working in Fleet Street. At about the same time, a South African statesman made a similar proposal to the British Cabinet, which endorsed it. King George V personally requested all the people of the British Empire to suspend normal activities for two minutes on the hour of the armistice "which stayed the worldwide carnage of the four preceding years and marked the victory of Right and Freedom". The two minutes' silence was popularly adopted and it became a central feature of commemorations on Armistice Day. See more

05.01.2022 R U Ok Day, Is celebrated annually to inspire and empower everyone to connect and create a conversation changer as it takes two seconds to be a great listener. By having this day once a year we are working towards removing the stigmas surrounding mental health and wellbeing. This day is about creating a strong sense and understanding of wellbeing in all of its forms. By encouraging wellbeing, we are maximising our own potentials to become the best versions of ourselves. Throu...gh connecting in our community, friends, and colleagues we can strive when times get tough as we lean on one another for support and understanding. It is okay not to be okay and as Dr Seuss wrote in One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish. Today is gone. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one. Dr Seuss

04.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. The message for R U OK?Day 2020 is ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?’ We want Australians know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. At Charley’s Place we work in partnership with our famil...ies and understand that there have been hardships this year that none of us have faced before. Today highlighted for us how we can be supportive to our families and we hope that we can make a difference. If you would like more information please head to the official website https://www.ruok.org.au/ideas-for-supporting-r-u-ok-day-whi
