18.01.2022 No. Adani, the proposed Carmichael Mine, and any government loan to foreign interests are all in my opinion morally wrong. In terms of mining, my understanding is that the environmental impact studies are very damning for the Carmichael Mine, its likely worse in the long term for the Queensland economy than better. If it were undertaken by an Australian interest I would need to consider the impacts versus the economy boon it would create. Again my understanding of the situati...on is this is bad for the economy. Adani is a corporation that has a track record of lawlessness, corruption and environmental vandalism, as reported by a former minister of its home nation India. I would not see this sort of organisation given mining rights in Queensland if I was given that power. A loan to a foreign concern, to mine Australian resources? We are not a nation without mining companies, if this is an economically viable endeavour, with limited and transient environmental impacts, a local firm would be able to take advantage of the opportunity. 18.01.2022 Corruption in Queensland I'd push parliament to work with the Crime and Corruption Commission to strengthen Queensland's regulation of politics. The ABC has revealed some sickening corruption at a local government level on the Gold Coast. It doesn't just effect our council, or just the local government. We need serious and urgent consideration of what is and is not legally acceptable in Queensland. The CCC has already made recommendations to parliament that have not been impl...emented. Transparency and honesty in government is paramount to the success of our democracy. Chris Manley 36/19 Aubrey St, Surfers Paradise http://www.abc.net.au//local-government-hot-bed-pe/9014636
07.01.2022 Traffic One of the most common issues raised is traffic. Its getting worse, with no sign of any answers or real improvement from any government in the last 30 years. The M1 was finished around 2004, and is already obsolete. Its fairly obscene to suggest only $250 million with duplicate the M1 between Stapylton and Nerang, the cost has been estimate by the government at over $2 billion for such a plan. But the M1 is just one road. All negative with no answers. The problem is h...ow we got here. The situation which we are currently in is only the result of poor planning, nearly free reign of developers and the natural flocking of people to good infrastructure. 30 years of failed governance. The answer is to focus on making the best of the situation we have, improving roads but more importantly planning for the future. The only way to fix the traffic is 30 years of good governance, good planning, responsible development and infrastructure planning.
