07.01.2022 The is a post we wrote on the City2Surf Facebook page about varying ability athletes being denied entry. It was immediately removed from the City2Surf Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/sunheraldcity2surf To the organisers of the City2Surf:... Why wont you let Todd Philpott enter the C2S? This varying ability athlete has competed in running events all over the world including Australia for charity and particularly childrens hospital charities. Due to his particular disability he cannot compete in a wheel chair. There are many other varying ability athletes with similar ability issues who compete in running events in hand cycles because they cant use a wheel chair. You deny all of them the opportunity to compete with able bodied entrants and other varying ability athletes in an event that is suppose to encourage community spirit. You allow varying ability wheel chair athletes to compete and even capitalise on the publicity this brings your event yet you deny others with similar abilities who have the same desire to get out do something rather than sit idly feeling sorry for themselves. These very same people are competing in similar events locally and other parts of the world. In fact you overtly advertise the C2S as a community event and encourage all to enter yet deny persons who have no other means of participating other than in a hand cycle due to their particular injuries or disability. This is clearly discriminatory and anti-community. We do hope you look at the video and see for yourselves what Todd Philpott has done and still does even now at age 55. There are many like Todd encouraged by him who have turned their lives around because they have found purpose despite their injuries and disabilities.
