24.01.2022 Happy National Recycling Week. The City would like to say thanks to all residents for their good work in recycling the correct items in their yellow lid recycling bins. The City boasts an 80 per cent recovery rate which means only 20 per cent contamination. Remember to recycle: paper, cardboard, aluminium, glass and plastic containers, bottles and jars.

16.01.2022 It’s a busy time of year with lots of events being held locally, including the Burns Beach Twilight Market on Wednesday nights. Please be mindful that parking can be limited and where possible try to walk, ride or organise alternative transport. 15.01.2022 Didnt think Neil Hawkins Park could get more colourful? Wait till you see the new mural that adorns the parks Public Outdoor Ping Pong (POPP) table, courtesy of Kallaroo artist Kerise Delcoure Artist. Kerise also transformed the Citys other two POPP tables at Geneff Park (Sorrento) and Picnic Cove Park (Edgewater) with her artistic flair. The three murals feature birds and plants native to Western Australia and celebrate the landscape, energy, and movement in each of these very active community spaces.

15.01.2022 Greenwood resident Stephanie was pleased to receive her compost bin and worm farm prize for completing the Edith Cowan University (ECU) online three bin waste survey. A big thank you to all 1,836 residents who took the time to complete the survey. Results will be available later in the year.

Now in its 16th year, this special event on the Tangaroa Blue Foundation calendar is open for registration and seeking your assistance. Tangaroa Blue Foundation is an Australia-wide not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the removal and prevention of marine debris, one of the major environmental issues worldwide. 14.01.2022 Residents are advised that they should never dispose of motor oil in their rubbish bin. This vision shows what happens when oil is in your bin. Instead, on your recycling collection day, you should place 1x 5L container of engine oil (in the original container) beside your yellow lid recycling bin for collection. If the oil is not collected, please call the City on 9400 4255.

13.01.2022 Wildlife such as snakes, magpies, ducks and kangaroos often find their way onto roads and paths which can potentially be harmful to the animal and road users. The City is not able to provide care, management or relocation of these animals and in instances where distressed wildlife is seen on roads and paths please contact the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (Wildcare) on 9474 9055 or WA Police on 131 444.

13.01.2022 Janelle from Edgewater has shared this photo with us of a special festive surprise for her son. She tells us that her son’s favourite day is rubbish collection day and he is out every week to wave to the truck driver as their bins are emptied. Earlier this week her son was surprised with a special gift from the driver a toy rubbish truck! It has made their year and they wanted to pass on their thanks and gratitude to all of the City’s rubbish truck drivers for their valuable work. A reminder that if your usual bin collection day is Friday, there is no service tomorrow due to the New Year's Day public holiday. Your bins will be collected on Saturday 2 January. 12.01.2022 How’s this for a new lease of life? Greenwood business Colgan Industries has incorporated a former Joondalup CBD light pole into its heritage restoration project in Roebourne. The project team was in need of an old light pole for its gaoler’s quarters. And that’s where the City - which has progressively been replacing its lighting infrastructure across the Joondalup CBD - stepped in. A few modifications aside, this old pole (pictured) was the perfect size and shape. It’s great to see Joondalup has played a small role in the restoration of the Roebourne Gaol precinct.

09.01.2022 Elham Eshraghian-Haakansson has been named Overall Winner of the 2020 Invitation Art Prize (IAP) exhibition for ‘face to face.’ The City of Joondalup’s most prestigious visual arts competition runs until 25 October at Westfield Whitford City. Make sure you check out this outstanding display, courtesy of 30 contemporary WA artists, and vote for your favourite artwork in the popular choice category.

08.01.2022 A reminder not to put batteries and aerosols in any of your bins as they can cause fires in waste collection trucks. Instead, take them to Tamala Park or the Balcatta Recycling Centre (both open seven days a week). The Citys Libraries and administration building also house drop-off battery recycling stations. Did you know, the City collected more than 5,773kg of household batteries from these stations in 2019/20?

The City manages over 500 hectares of natural areas full of unique flora and fauna. When exploring bushland, remember to remove soil and plant material from your shoes before entering, keep to paths and tracks, avoid walking in wet soil, walk your dog on a lead and clean up after your dog.
