24.01.2022 They are amazing smart ponies that kids should own . These horses will look after them. Had the honor to work with them and each one had been good. Please post a photo of your Brumby

24.01.2022 Asking the horse to be high, light, and giving his mouth More than once Ive overheard a rider complaining that their horse is very heavy on the rein, and has a dead mouth. How do we ask the horse to hold up his own head, and have a mobile mouth, without pulling down in the hand.

24.01.2022 Hes been talking to my husband

22.01.2022 Hello fellow riders, this is an opportunity to deepen your knowledge and develop your skills effectively with your horse . I have been able to truly refine from the extensive knowledge and training from many international trainers and have applied these methods to many horses to gain, the important steps to riding your horse without harsh gadgets. A logical approach for you and your horse.

19.01.2022 Something worth listening to , kick-start 2021 a reminder of what we have to achieve within ourselves. .

19.01.2022 It is in the smallness of the mind that true ignorance can be found. Keep up the social distancing.

18.01.2022 With Summer round the corner, teaching outdoors can be hot, dry and windy work , yesterday was the most beautiful day to share with some lovely passionate riders , I enjoyed Leo and Deb working for the first time in a double bridle. Using the French way, the sniffle rein passes over the index finger and the curb under the little finger. The sniffle lifts and extends and the curb flexes and lowers. Reason why not to flex a horse first when training. Its the last rein aid you teach your horse. Congratulations Deb Leo looks very happy.

18.01.2022 We have the same in Perth Western Australia

17.01.2022 We must return to the things that really matter, to our connections of all things seen and unseen and that there are more realities than this one. We must learn to walk in balance, live in reverent intimacy with all nature, and create a world we can offer to our children and their children.

17.01.2022 According to de la Gurinire: There used to be persons in charge of exercising the foals outside the breeding barn when they were still wild. They were called Cavalcdours de Bardelle. Those with the most patience, skill, energy, and diligence were chosen ; the perfection of these qualities was not as necessary for the horses who were already in work and being ridden. Those people would be accustomed the young horses to allow someone to approach them in the stable, to be abl...e to pick up their feet,to touch them, put bridle ,saddle, girth crupper ext. They gave them assurance and made them gentle when mounted. They were never harsh or forceful, because all these times they would only use gentle methods that came to mind. Through this ingenious patience, they made a horse familiar and friendly to man. To maintain vigour and courage, and made him understand the first rules. If one were to imitate today the plan of the old connoisseurs, one would see fewer horses who are injured, or ruined, one sided or plain vicious. See more

16.01.2022 Thanks Jo,for the lovely words "I’m so proud of my horse Mambo, as after having him for over a year and struggling to get him sound through multiple pinched nerves I finally seem to be making progress. Mambo raced in Hong Kong and Australia and retired from racing after experiencing nose bleeds after races. This is true Mambo style as he gives 100% and always wants to please. Mambos excellent progress is down to my riding coach Caren Robinson who I can’t thank enough. ... Caren Robinson is so patient and allows me to develop as a rider whilst teaching and developing Mambo. Under Caren Robinson style of training, Mambo is continuing to learn how to carry himself correctly, strengthening himself and making him more resilient to injuries. To anyone looking to become more intuned with their horse I can’t recommend Caren enough " See more

13.01.2022 The environment around you of which you have control, is a direct reflection of your inner state.

13.01.2022 The goal of harmony Lets aspire to harmony with our horse, and with the people in our lives. Its a worthy goal, but its not enough to just think of the pl...easant feelings that you want. Seeking harmony with your horse needs to have a methodology that goes with it, otherwise well, its like basing your relationship goals on a romantic comedy. If you want to feel warm and glowing with your partner all the time, youre going to struggle when you get to actual, real world problems. I often see memes posted by horse people about harmony with horses that usually have pictures of a horse galloping across a green field. Or eating grass in a flower-studded meadow. The horse always seems to have a thick and flowing mane and tail. These are lovely images, heartwarming for the horse-lover to see. But if we would like to train the horse, we need more guidance than the nice feelings wed like to have. Im sure weve all seen people who are being ineffective with their training partly because they are trying to get by with just being friendly. On the other side of the coin are those who approach their current training problem like its a battle with the horse for dominance, or a court case where they are the lawyer for the opposition. I dont know about you, but thats not what I want! There IS a feeling that is particularly useful to cultivate for training - a calm, centred attitude, which is an open invitation for the horse to join you in that state. Its quite tricky to get in that mental state when things are challenging, but well worth seeking. But on the whole, feelings are not enough for effective training. How do I get to harmony with my horse? * be clear about the behaviours you want * break the training up into very small, achievable goals * train him to do every single thing that youd like him to be able to do * praise him when he does what you want * consolidate what hes learnt * work on minimising the aids you use * only increase the difficulty when hes doing well with easier tasks. And when youve done all that, then you can sit pretty and enjoy the harmony, as Evelyn Schlohan-Wiedner and Gunnar Wiedner are doing, in this photo. Its a nice picture representing harmony between horses and riders. Consider the amount of work that must have gone into arriving at this moment! Do you have a picture of you enjoying the harmony with your horse? If so, please leave it in the comments.

12.01.2022 Just as LHotte had to fight for thirty years and attain the rank of General to be able to add the rising trot to the cavalry regulations, Danloux needed twenty years and the rank of a colonel to gain acceptance of the forward jumping seat developed by Caprilli. This certainly explains his famous words: the worship of tradition does not exclude the love of progress. Although their respective experiences show that they had to fight even more against conservative sluggishness... than against the worship of tradition! In any case, both are among the pioneers of horsemanship to whom we shall be forever indebted. For good measure, one must admit that Danlouxs quote turns out to be perfectly reversible. Since even if the worship of tradition does not exclude the love of progress, the worship of progress, on the other hand, can exclude the love of tradition. Thus the founding of the Cadre Noir in the nineteenth century, in response to the military necessities of the time and a galloping Anglo-mania, gave sport riding a salutary and decisive impulse. Wonderful but at the same time it became popular, under the influence of snobbery and intellectual laziness, to abolish as outdated everything that had gone before. The modernists, as keen on innovation as they were quick to disparage, consigned the ancients to a kind of equestrian Stone Age. As someone noted: No more fathers, only sons!

12.01.2022 Dont let your fire go out.

11.01.2022 Everywhere you look you will find incredible reasons for hope.

10.01.2022 Something we should all do , live in the moment . So important to remember horses dont think how good they will be in the future if they behave today or remember how good they were yesterday , they just listen to you in that moment . So stop being surprised when they dont remember things or when they cant see the bigger picture but be in awe that they try so hard for us and that they forgive so easily. Photo Charlotte Quinn having a quiet moment with her teacher.

08.01.2022 Now this racing I can get behind.

02.01.2022 Listening takes time, and it cannot be rushed. , when sharing the space with a horse who has life experiences.

01.01.2022 " The Sun Rises and I am obliged to thank it for showing up again this morning...a brief moment of magic...it makes no sound. ..it just arrives in various moods and shades each day, does what it must for us and leaves at dusk. How very important that we must respect it..that we must thank it.."

01.01.2022 Your horse gets absolutely nothing out of being competitive for you. Not a darn thing. Of course horses are bred for specific jobs, or theyre bred to be athletic to a certain degree. However, horses dont wake up thinking about chasing cans, or cows, or flying over jumps. They have no idea how much money is added to the pot. They have no idea that this is a qualifier. They have no idea that this is the short go. And DESPITE us... DESPITE our nerves, our flaws, our incorrec...t ques, our huge emotions, they get the job done to their very best ability. Even when we fail them by letting our emotions get in the way, they come back and they try again. For US. Whoa. Let that sink in. If only we could all be so understanding. To think of an animal that is forgiving and flexible enough to put up with the repetition of practice, the intense nerves of the rider, the stress of hauling and still meet you at the gate for scratches is MIND. BLOWING. If you havent done so lately. Thank your horse. If youre successful, thank the horses that put you there and made you. Thank the horses that gave everything they had for you simply because you ASKED them to. If youre still on the journey to success, thank the horses that made you fall in love with your sport and who have helped give you the confidence to want to learn more and be better. We can never stop learning as horsemen and horsewomen, and by continuing our education every horse in our future will be better off. Next time you head to the arena leave your ego at the door and thank your horse! ~Samantha Roffers
