24.01.2022 Just because it can't be recycled in your commingled bin, it doesn't mean it can't be recycled at all. Food waste is great for a DIY compost project and kitchen appliances can be sent to a hazardous waste collection point. Remember not to put hazardous chemicals into your bin - they can cause fires if not disposed of correctly. Visit our Recycling Hub to find out more https://www.cleanaway.com.au/recycling-hub/ #sustainablefuture #recycling

24.01.2022 General waste services are less expensive when the bin is not overfilled. Find out how you can divert more waste from landfill, optimise operational costs and increase sustainability credentials with our recycling service.

23.01.2022 Louise from Cardinia Shire Council recently called us to thank drivers Steven Leah and Mark Morrice for going above and beyond their duties. Louise had booked a hard waste collection on behalf of her elderly mum but she had a fall and couldn’t put the items out on the nature strip in time for collection. Steve and Mark came to the rescue by collecting the items from her front garden instead. Great job guys and thanks Louise for your lovely message. #trueblueCleanawaycrew #CWYtrueblue #sustainablefuture

23.01.2022 Andrew (or Flash) is one of the many amazing drivers on our team going the extra mile in City of Port Adelaide Enfield. He’s a popular guy, our Flash, receiving drawings and plenty of waves from his fans in the community. Well done Flash! #sustainablefuture #trueblueCleanawaycrew

16.01.2022 Driver Steve Gerard recently went the extra mile for truck fan Greyson in City of Greater Geelong by learning how to communicate with him in sign language (with the help of Greyson’s mum of course!) Steve also gifted him with a toy garbage truck and safety vest that Steve bought off his own means. Greyson’s mum dropped us a note saying that she was very thankful for Steve’s efforts and he absolutely made her son’s day. Well done Steve! #sustainablefuture #trueblueCleanawaycrew #cwytrueblue

16.01.2022 #Isthisrecycling? These electrical sockets and wires we found in our sorting facility are a definite no for the recycling bin. Find an e-waste drop off point near you to recycle electronic waste or a council organised collection for household appliances.

16.01.2022 Hamish is a huge garbage truck fan and waits out every Thursday morning for our trucks to roll by in Stonnington City Council. When our driver gifted Hamish with a mini Cleanaway truck, he loved it so much he started taking it with him everywhere he went. It also made going to day care so much easier, said his mum who works as a doctor. Unfortunately, Hamish’s toy truck got run over one morning, so his favourite driver Rob Vandenberg came to the rescue with a replacement when he heard how upset he was. Education Officer Olivia ONeill said, Hamish and his mum wanted to say thank you to our driver and was so grateful to be provided a reliable service with a personal touch. It has been a huge shining light for her and her son during these isolating times. Thanks for sharing your story with us! #sustainablefuture

13.01.2022 Truck and facility fires, injuries to waste workers, and environmental pollution - the hazards posed by disposing of dangerous items in the bin shouldn't be taken lightly. Keep the community and waste workers safe by using a hazardous waste drop off service to dispose of items such as gas bottles and batteries. Medical waste should be securely wrapped and disposed off in general waste. #Isthisrecycling?

10.01.2022 Items in your bathroom and bedroom made out of textiles or mixed materials cannot be recycled in the commingled bin but hard rigid plastics like shampoo bottles are a yes. Although razor blades are metal, they are a safety risk so leave these out of the commingled bin. Stay tuned next week for the letters U to Z in our recycling series and visit our Recycling Hub for the full list. https://www.cleanaway.com.au/recycling-hub/ #sustainablefuture

09.01.2022 Yesterday, Regional Manager Scott Collins visited our Industrial Waste Services team in Karratha for #NationalRoadSafetyWeek, where the team made a pledge to drive as if their loved ones were on the road ahead. The team chose the pledge because it reflected the importance of family and how it is the cornerstone of all their lives in some way, shape or form. The team signed a group pledge and each driver individually signed their own pledge as well. To remind them of their commitment to safety on the road, every driver will place the pledge in their vehicles throughout the week. #sustainablefuture #trueblueCleanawaycrew #CWYtrueblue

09.01.2022 Three-year-old Brooklyn is obsessed with garbage trucks - he has at least 50 toy trucks and just as many toy bins. His dad, Sam said, Brooklyn is always spotting trucks while we’re out driving and we have to go via the depot to look at the parked trucks every time we take our cardboard for recycling. When Cleanaway’s trucks come around in the morning, he and I will race from his room out to the driveway to wave. For his 3rd birthday, Brooklyn even got to sit in one of the tr...ucks thanks to Driver Carl Pay. Last Christmas, Sam secretly set about building a life-sized truck for Brooklyn. We bought and modified an electric kids’ race truck. Come Christmas morning everything else was ignored but for the big blue garbage truck! Santa also organised for some yellow recycling bins and we filled those with wrapping paper and boxes and headed over to the park across the road to start the route. Now every sunny day we are at the park with me chasing behind restocking the bins while he stops and tips them in the back of the truck. Thanks for sharing your story Sam and Brooklyn!

Pictured here with our crew member is Dedy Friebe, who operates the Food Share Warrnambool base and a special appearance by our new Cleanaway truck! Dedy was delighted with the level of support they were receiving from Cleanaway. #sustainablefuture

05.01.2022 Is recycling worth it? Do recycled containers actually get turned into something new? Is closed loop recycling even possible in Australia? The answer is yes! And it’s already happening. Follow the journey of a plastic bottle as it gets returned to a container deposit scheme then recycled into a new drink bottle. A sustainable recycling system is when items are recycled then reused in the manufacturing process in place of raw materials. This circular economy of recycling crea...tes environmental, economic and social benefits through litter reduction, job creation and industry growth. NSW’s highly successful Return and Earn scheme has recycled more than 4 billion containers since 2017 with 5-7 million drink containers are returned each day. Thanks myTOMRA Australia for sharing this great film. #NationalRecyclingWeek #sustainablefuture

02.01.2022 I joined Cleanaway in September 2010. My background was process and project engineering from steelmaking, coal tar distillation and power generation. When I started, I provided technical support for the plant’s operating and maintenance teams. Over the years my role has progressed to Production Engineer, where I now lead those teams. Nicholas Welbourne from our Rutherford Refinery recently celebrated his 10 year anniversary with Cleanaway. In that time, he’s most proud of ...being part of a team that produced Group II base oil, making Cleanaway the only Group II base oil manufacturer in Australia. The team have also increased production volume by more than 40% since the commissioning of the plant in 2006, and won awards such as the Hunter Manufacturing Excellence in Technology Award and Cleanaway’s Team Star Award. Most importantly, Nicholas is pleased to have maintained a record of zero lost time injuries at the site. Pictured here is Nicholas (left of photo) receiving his 10 Years of Service Award from Regional Manager Scott McLeod #sustainablefuture #CWYtrueblue #TrueBlueCleanawayCrew

01.01.2022 A scary reality of how serious contamination can be! Common household items may look innocent but products containing toxic chemicals can catch fire in our trucks or facilities, endangering our drivers and the surrounding environment and community. In this case, our new truck in City of Casey caught fire and the driver had to quickly drop the material to put it out. Thankfully no one was hurt. So the next time you’re clearing out your home, garden, pool or garage keep these ...in mind: - Do not put car batteries, gas bottles, flares, butane canisters, fuel cans, chemicals and hot ashes into any of your bins - Any household products with a ‘corrosive’, ‘oxidising agent’, ‘toxic’ or ‘flammable’ label are considered hazardous and should be collected and disposed of by a regulated hazardous waste disposal service - Ensure ashes are completely extinguished before disposal in your bin - Store chemicals in a safe location until you can dispose of them at council organised hazardous waste collection service or your local transfer station Find out more about fire hazards in the bin here: https://www.cleanaway.com.au/ser/household-hazardous-waste/ #sustainablefuture
