22.01.2022 3 days to go... bushfire survivors have personally seen the terrifying side of the climate crisis. Their stories are gut wrenching, heartbreaking and show us the future of what we face as a nation. Australians are tough, but there's only so much adaptation and resilience a society can have in the face of an existential crisis. Our survivors will tell you we cannot adapt to homes being burnt down regularly, to lives being lost in the mega fires brought on by our changing climate. This is not a time to adapt and be resilient, regardless of the words our government chooses to address the situation. This is a time to act, and we have such a small window of time to do this.

20.01.2022 If you can’t get to the Uni Student climate protest on Friday 13 Mach, you might want to join the Extinction Rebellion protest against the Murdoch media empire at 5pm on 13 March to protest the Murdoch media’s role in denying climate change

20.01.2022 Friends of the Earth and other climate groups are campaigning to put pressure on the state ALP government to keep warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. To do this, the state government needs to keep the ban on coal seem gas and abandon plans for offshore gas exploration.

18.01.2022 Reminder - Uni Student for Climate Justice Climate Strike this Friday.

18.01.2022 We had 5000-6000 at the Climate Crisis National Day of Action in Melbourne. We had a wide representation from the local climate groups that have sprung up across the suburbs, as well as good contingents from the Australian Education Union, the National Tertiary Education Union, Extinction Rebellion and climate scientists. We also had representation from the Bushfire Survivors for Climate Action. The speakers were all very powerful, in particular the words of Sim, the voluntee...r firefighter for 20 years who said "Being in a burned country is lonely and silent - all the languages are gone - there is the grief of the burned country." Sim pointed out that these catastrophic fires are with one degree of warming. They will be far worse with another degree of warming. Thanks also to the Melbourne Climate Choir and the SOS from the Kids (a kids and family choir from Australian Parents 4 Climate Action and XR Families) who warmed up the crowd with their songs before the speakers started. It was good to see unions and social justice groups unite with climate groups to call for urgent action on climate change. See more

14.01.2022 4 days to go... The injustice of the climate crisis is on clear display in the global south. Poorer countries who emit far less carbon than industrialised countries are the first to feel the destabilising effects of the climate emergency. We here in Australia must act in solidarity with global citizens who, in our current political landscape, have no say in their own future.

11.01.2022 5 days to go... Sometimes in the doom and gloom of fighting a climate crisis we forget just how strongly we could forge a better future if our leaders were on board. A nationally owned, country wide renewable energy network could be built for the amount of money our governments currently spend on new gas projects, propping up aging coal fired power stations and subsidising ecological disasters such as the Adani Carmichael coal mine. It's in OUR hands! We must force the change we so desperately need. A national public renewable energy network, energy for the people by the people, would be a massive step in addressing our dependence on fossil fuel and our runaway carbon output.

11.01.2022 Our speakers for the Climate Crisis National Day of Action are finalised. We are privileged to have such a great group of speakers. Please help with any last minute publicity. * Welcome to Country: Ron Jones, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung elder * Jai Allan, Aboriginal man active with the Indigenous youth climate movement * * Sim Ayres, a volunteer firefighter with 20 years experience who fought the Corryong fire this year. Sim is currently, a Lieutenant & crew leader with Strathbogi...e CFA. Also a Farmer & Landscape gardener, & father of two proud climate marchers. * Luke Hilakari, Victorian Trades Hall Council secretary * Finlay Carter, School Strike 4 Climate * Nahui Jimenez, Uni Students for Climate Justice See more

10.01.2022 2 days to go... Make the climate criminals pay. Fossil fuel corporations have profited to the tune of billions of dollars from the destruction of our environment and the extraction of carbon heavy materials that contribute to the crisis. Now they have doubled down on their activities and doubled their political donations to the two major parties over the last four years. We know that multi million dollar donations is chicken feed to them. Instead of taking 'donations' from these dinosaurs, our governments should be significantly taxing their profits to fund a sustainable transition away from fossil fuels, help support fossil fuel workers and their communities in a just transition, and take the necessary actions to repair and save our precious ecosystems. You can't profit from catastrophe and just walk away.

07.01.2022 It looks like our Auslan interpreter for tomorrow's event may have fallen through! We know it's a tall order, but does anyone have anyone who may be able to step in as our interpreter? Please contact the page. Thank you!

07.01.2022 1 day to go... Fund our firies. Firefighters (paid and volunteers) have been at the forefront of fighting the terrifying mega blazes of the 2019/2020 bushfire season. Unprecedented in its severity, early season start and geographical spread, this bushfire season was predicted 20 years ago and experts warned the government at least six months before it started, but were ignored. In fact, resources for organisations that fight bushfires were significantly cut in NSW, and fu...nding for firefighting networks across Australia has stagnated over the decades. We demand that firefighters are adequately resourced now that we face a future with more intense and long lasting fire seasons. We demand that rural volunteer firefighters be paid for their services and that fire affected communities, ecosystems and animals be guaranteed funding in order to recover from fire disaster.
