25.01.2022 Prospect Vale’s Rod Campbell took the early honours in Regis Aged Care Australian Veteran Golf Championship on Tuesday. Playing with the rest of the men’s A grade field at Riverside Golf Club, Campbell shot a 77 to take a one-shot lead into Thursday’s second round. Chris Rose, from Ballina in NSW, and Launceston Golf Club’s David Hamilton, who played in the afternoon group, were one shot back after the first round of the championship. Hamilton won the stableford section on da...y one with 37 points on a countback from three players. In the women’s Division 1, West Australian Cath Bellemore shot 83 to lead overall, after playing in the morning group Riverside. Launceston Golf Club’s Rob Sindorff led the men’s B grade stroke event, which started on his home course, after shooting an 87 in the morning round. Sindorff was two shots ahead of West Australian Alan Goodall, who fired an 89 in the afternoon. South Australian John Dodd took the stableford honours in B grade with 37 points. Vicki Critcher, of St Georges Basin in NSW, led the women’s Division 2. Margaret Salotti took stableford honours with 36 points. Wednesday is a rest day for the championship although not necessarily a break from golf for the competitors. Transport and tee times have been arranged for them to play at Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm before the championship resumes on Thursday with the second round. The championship finishes on Friday. 23.01.2022 Update 2nd April 2020. Dear Tasmanian Golf Clubs and Facilities, As you are aware, COVID-19 or the Coronavirus as it is more commonly known has created global health concerns regarding the disease and its infection rates.... Golf Australia is writing to provide further assistance and guidance to our clubs and facilities on this important topic. It is Golf Australia’s recommendation that, based on the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday evening, March 29 that limits outdoor gatherings to two persons or fewer, all golf clubs and facilities should close until further notice. As of Wednesday, April 1 the Tasmanian State Government has set new regulations around playing golf while strictly adhering to social distancing principles. Along with previous restrictions around social distancing the State Government now has set a limit of 2 people per hole on the golf course. Therefore an 18 hole golf course can have a maximum of 36 people on the course and a 9 hole golf course, a maximum of 18 people on the course at any time. If Clubs are intending to open, they must consider how they will manage this restriction effectively and implement appropriate measures. Some suggestions include the following; Have a person assigned on the starting hole(s) at all times to ensure that an accurate head count must is maintained. Establish tee times at 15 or 20 minute intervals in groups of two only. Wait until the green has cleared on the first hole before the next group can tee off (if the first hole is a par 4 or 5 this will incur a significant wait which will need to be considered when setting tee time intervals). The Government regulations are very clear that there are to be only 2 people per hole. Once there are the maximum number of people on the golf course no one else can tee off until a group of two has completed their final hole & left the golf course. Provide written/verbal directions to all golfers prior to tee off and ensure that they understand the strict rules in place. Social golf only, no competitions are to be run. Golf is currently being considered an exercise by the State Government. Strict social distancing measures must be observed at all times (1.5m). No congregations of more that 2 people at any time. Non-compliance of these regulations leaves your club at risk of incurring significant financial penalties imposed by the State Government. In addition, the Premier also stated that those over the age of 70 should remain at home, that is, don’t play golf. The Club needs to give this matter careful consideration before opening the golf course. While this is a difficult time for the golf industry and wider society, Golf Australia is committed to working with clubs and facilities across the state to ensure that we return a vibrant, strong industry. For further information from the Federal Government on COVID-19, the Coronavirus Health Information Line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 1800 020 080.

07.01.2022 Dear Tasmanian Golf Clubs and Facilities, As you are aware, COVID-19 or the Coronavirus as it is more commonly known has created global health concerns regarding the disease and its infection rates. Golf Australia is writing to provide further assistance and guidance to our clubs and facilities on this important topic.... It is Golf Australia’s recommendation that, based on the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday evening, March 29 that limits outdoor gatherings to two persons or fewer, all golf clubs and facilities should close until further notice. We have received advice from the Tasmanian government today, April 1 as follows: The Tasmanian government notes Golf Australia’s position and that a number of courses have chosen to close based on this advice. They also note that some have chosen to stay open to allow for social golf to be played. The government is happy for social golf to continue as long as social distancing restrictions are adhered to. This means no competition golf, 2 people per hole, and no more than 36 people on an 18-hole golf course at any one time, and 18 on a 9-hole golf course. The government recognises that if golf courses choose to close, they have the autonomy to do so. They also remind the community that as per the PM’s instructions on Sunday night, people over the age of 70 are advised to self-isolate. While this is a difficult time for the golf industry and wider society, Golf Australia is committed to working with clubs and facilities across the state to ensure that we return a vibrant, strong industry. Industrial Relations advice: For specific Industrial Relations advice please contact the Tasmanian Hospitality Association. If your Golf Club or Facility is not a member and requires advice, please contact Golf Australia Club Support on [email protected]. 06.01.2022 Tasmanian Peter O’Keefe surged to a seven-shot win in the Australian Veteran Golf Championship in Launceston on Friday. And while Tasmanians had a day to celebrate in an event that attracted more than 400 interstate competitors, Western Australia’s Cath Bellemore won the women’s title. O’Keefe, from Iron Pot Golf Club south of Hobart, had led by a shot going into the final round of the men’s A grade championship. His 76 at Country Club Tasmania on Friday saw him finish with a... three-round score of 237. John Ciezki, from Buninyong in Victoria, finished seven shots back, while Prospect Vale’s Rod Campbell, the first-round leader, had a final-round 85 on his home course to finish on 247. It was another home-state title in B grade, where Launceston’s Rob Sindorff held on to beat Queenslander Graeme Finn by a shot. Nedlands-based Bellemore’s final-round 85 gave her a three-round total of 252 as she became the first winner of the perpetual trophy for the women’s championship. Defending champion Helen Pascoe, of Buninyong in Victoria, finished on 253. Launceston’s Di Godfrey won the Division 1 stableford section with 100 points over the three rounds, one point clear of Smithton’s Jill Dixon. Riverside player Alison Henty was the Divison 2 gross winner while clubmate Margaret Bond was the overall women’s stableford champion with 101 points. Colebrook’s David Marshall won the men’s C grade stroke event. Barry Berwick, of Riverside, had the best stableford score. West Australian Peter Schilling gave the event its second hole-in-one when he aced the 17th at Country Club Tasmania. Tournament director Phillip Atkins said the event had run smoothly with no major problems apart from the wind, which we couldn’t do much about’’. He said the feedback on the event from competitors had been sensational. It’s been full-on, but it’s been a great, successful week, he said. We’ve had more than 140 volunteers who have worked relentlessly all week to make it happen. A presentation dinner on Friday night wrapped up the week-long event.
