23.01.2022 When we turned our attention to the existing bathroom it was a very cramped, drab and tired space and had obviously seen better days with cracks already obvious on the floor tiles and signs of water leakage around the shower base. Although the existing vanity was the right size for the room and had enough storage space it just looked tired and dated. The existing bathtub was perfectly serviceable but just didn't look inviting. There was nothing else for it but to take up the ...entire floor, open up the walls, make good the walls and re-screed the floor to correct falls, waterproof the entire area and start again. Re-screeding allowed us to remove the original shower hob and fit a new semi frameless screen direct to the floor and enlarge the shower stall area. We re-tiled to match the scheme already used in the kitchen and en-suite including feature tiling. Utilising the existing vanity carcass but re-modelling it to match the en-suite helped keep costs down without impacting on the overall scheme. Finally re-tiling the existing bathtub surround incorporating the mosaic feature and new tapware helped to make the area more appealing. 13.01.2022 While Vicki's kitchen reno was progressing we were also working on her en-suite. In this room a monstrous spa bath takes over the whole corner, is seldom used and makes the shower uncomfortable to use. And what can I say about the compact vanity, it was probably someones idea of luxury back in the day but the choice of timber contrasting with dark green tiles is not to everyones taste. With only a small window the combination of large bathtub and dark tiles make this room app...ear very dark and cramped. Here's what we did. We removed the spa bath which allowed us to create a large shower enclosure with a semi frameless screen to open up the area, with the inclusion of a combination shower rail for that luxury shower experience. The full height gloss white wall tiles contrasting with the stone floor tiles brighten and open up the area and the inclusion of a mosaic tile to the rear of the shower enclosure creates a feature which complements the overall scheme. We fitted a custom made vanity which gives more storage space and the use of gloss white 2 pack finish with a smartstone gelsomino benchtop not only complements the tiling within this room but also continues the colour scheme created in the kitchen. The choice of a frameless mirror helps to open up the room and creates a clean uncluttered look. The fitting of a modern white sit on basin continues the overall scheme of the room and with the tapware mirroring the tapware in the kitchen the overall scheme continues. Even with a small window the choice of tiling and fixtures creates a bright, open and airy room.
