23.01.2022 Due to successful business expansion throughout the south coast and monaro, Ben is proud to transform Cobargo Veterinary Services to South East Veterinary Services. This change will also assist prospective clients understand he is NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY CLINIC yet- while he does currently welcome clients to visit home to save travel costs and intends to utilise hospital services in the near future, his comprehensive and advanced diagnostic equipment and treatment techniques... compliment his convenient home-based service for all animals including dogs and cats, cattle, horses, alpacas, sheep and goats, ferrets, camels, and even wombats! Ben also apologises for apparently ‘not being in today’ and not ‘returning messages’ to pet owners that weren’t genuinely ‘passed on’. Ben still strives to continue in providing the existing Affordable, Dedicated and Personalised veterinary care for his patients and owners and can be personally contacted directly on 0448634465 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

23.01.2022 The Agricultural and Animal Services Functional Area (AASFA) is currently supporting bushfire affected landholders and communities. If you require assistance wi...th emergency fodder and water, animal care, or livestock or animal assessment, please call the Agricultural and Animal Services Hotline on 1800 814 647. If you don't have phone access, please direct message us via the NSW DPI Facebook page.

21.01.2022 Veterinarians are extremely fortunate and humble to positively change lives of our pets and livestock, often sharing the joy of a successful delivery of a newborn calf, a stitched up best mate, or just preventing disease through vaccination and health check. Unfortunately, however, we also share in the loss of your animals and often and regularly subjected to long and stressful hours at a high intellectual and emotional intensity. As a result, vets are statistically four tim...es more likely to commit suicide than the remaining adult population and twice as likely as other health care professionals. I generally love my job (Mary says way too much!) and i dont suffer from depression, but know many collegues who do. I was very privileged to be recently invited onto SBS' Insight program as one of seven vets to address and discuss mental health in the veterinary profession. This program will be aired on SBS at 8:30pm tonight! It is also available to view on SBS On Demand if you would like to watch it at a later date. Also with most bushfire-related injuries now over, I'd like to appreciate the following people and organisation for their emotional, professonal and financial support throughout the past five months: World Vets International Veterinary Medicine Program (in particular Drs Ben and Simon), Dr Oliver Liyou and Equine Veterinary & Dental Services Pty. Ltd. (EVDS), Provet, AVA and the AVA Benevolent Fund, Dr Mark Doyle and the NSW Local Land Services, Dr Bill Beresford, Dr Steve Ledger, and family and friends. Finally, thank you to all my valued clients for their patience in prioritisation of of animals requiring urgent treatment during these challenging times. Very finally, ive received a large volume of non-urgent veterinary-related concerns on weekends. Whilst i am generally available for emergencies 24/7 and love a chat, i do have a life outside vet (particularly Sundays) and appreciate communication of non-emergency enquiries during the week. Thank you again for your patience, and i look forward to catching up with you on a positive note, soon.

16.01.2022 Ben and Mary would like to thank their valued clients for their business and support throughout a very challenging 2020 and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe, successful and green 2021. Please be vigilant in common dangers to pets during Christmas (poster courtesy of Fur Life Vet). Ben is available for emergencies only during the Christmas period (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day) to assist in your veterinary needs, and excitedly looks forward to working with you in 2021!

11.01.2022 Ben and Mary would like to thank their valued clients for their business and support in 2019 and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe, successful and GREEN 2020. Please be vigilant in common dangers to pets during Christmas (poster courtesy of Fur Life Vet). Ben is available for emergencies during the Christmas period (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day) to assist in your veterinary needs, and excitedly looks forward to working with you in 2020!

11.01.2022 This lovable doggo turned up at a farm in Verona yesterday. It is not microchipped and foreleg foot pads are mildly grazed and wearing a chain collar which suggests it fell off the back of a ute. While it looks to be it's enjoying a casual Friday arvo with its temporary owner, I'm sure it's actual owner would prefer it home. If you, or know someone currently (or soon will be) losing an epic game of hide and seek, please feel welcome to share this post, dob in below or contact me to help find it's master. Note that security questions including its approximate age, gender, neuter status, mothers maiden name and dream job will be asked prior to revealing further details. Have a fantastic weekend!

11.01.2022 With the recent, current and continuing surrounding fires throughout the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Monaro and associated threat to homes and property, please don't forget or compromise on safety of your animals. Though some of the state register don't apply, the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) has developed a very useful guide and checklist for care and management of pets and livestock before, during and after bushfires. I may be required to defend our family farm NW of Cobargo and cannot care for animals, but please get in contact should you require assistance moving pets or livestock to a safer location.

10.01.2022 Happy Veterinary Nurse Day! Veterinary nurses play an invaluable role in the success of any veterinary business, working tirelessly without much appreciation behind closed doors which are often secret to many clinical successes. A huge thank you to Mary for your support over my first 11 months of business. Im fortunate to be involved in many veterinary highs by myself on the job, but she's always beside me and also shares sacrifice of many Easter Sundays, Christmas Days, and... long weekends together for those late night calvings, early morning dog fights, tearing euthanasias and weekend warrior enquiries. As a perfectionist, she cops an unfair amount of whinging from me, and i really appreciate her overwhelming sacrifice, patience, level-headedness, positive thinking, and emotional support and inspiration thats helped me achieve my dream. Her previous experience in over 5 progressive clinics including Scone Equine, Western Rivers Veterinary Group and North Australian Veterinary Group has also been the foundation to clinical excellence in many of our procedures, equipment and philosophy; so please extend your thanks to her when we're out together looking after your animals. Im extremely lucky, proud and appreciative to have Mary in the Cobargo Veterinary Services team, and i look forward to having her more involved as the business continues to expand. Have a great weekend!

07.01.2022 All registered veterinarians are required to undertake further training to ensure their skills and knowledge in a variety of techniques and technologies are maintained at a high standard. Ben recently spent a week at Western Rivers Veterinary Group in Central West NSW refining his surgical and medical knowledge in a range of facets, including sheep pregnancy scanning, dog and cat neutering and orthopaedics and equine dentistry. Thanks to everyone for their patience in scheduling of consultations around this time. Ben is now gladly back in the Bega Valley and available for both routine consultations and emergencies 24/7 on 0448634465.

06.01.2022 Ben was lucky enough to meet Buddy today while on a routine farm visit. Have a fantastic weekend!

06.01.2022 My sincere condolences to those who have lost property, animals and family in the recent bushfires. Thank you to all those who have enquired on safety of my family and farm: we were very prepared and lucky to successfully execute our bushfire protection plan with marginal loss. Unfortunately i haven't had adequate reception to accept phone calls to discuss and attend to suffering animals, however, have been in minimal and random intermittent pockets of reception to receive t...exts and notifications of missed calls. Furthermore, we have also unfortunately been away from the phone for prolonged periods while walking and driving corners of the district for welfare of animals. If you have pets or livestock (or know of any) that have sustained bushfire-related injuries and require urgent veterinary attention, please continue to call, but please send me a text instead of voicemail (as i dont get enough reception to make the call) which includes property/owner name, address and level of urgency (1 being general advice on management and health, and 10 being desperate and servere burns and injuries). Between jobs on-farm, we are doing our best to be available at the Cobargo Showgrounds to attend to animals, so please feel most welcome to stop us for some advice, a big hug or just a chat, we'd be most willing to help you out. Thanks to everyone for your patience and diligence in care of your animals following the fires and I look forward to working with you and your animals again soon.

02.01.2022 ATTENTION FIRE AFFECTED Bush fire-affected land managers are encouraged to call the Agriculture and Animal Services hotline on 1800 814 647 to request assi...stance with services including emergency fodder and stock water, animal assessments and veterinary services. This information will help us plan for and allocate emergency fodder and water over the coming week. We are aware there are a number of isolated communities who are in need of support and may be without telecommunications. If you have family or friends affected in this way, please assist them to contact with Agriculture and Animal Services hotline or encourage them to head to one of the staffed centres at Bega Showground, Moruya Showground and Cooma Showground..

01.01.2022 Interesting Case! A 15yr old Arabian mare presented on Sunday for quidding (retaining and dropping balls of food), neck extension and nasal and oral discharge. Nasogastric intubation (passing a tube into her nose, down her esophagus and into her stomach) was performed which found a partial obstruction at the thoracic inlet. Obstruction was successfully cleared, and oral electrolyte therapy administered through the indwelling tube. Dental issues are a common cause for 'Choke',... so oral speculum was placed to examine her oral cavity for any cause for the choke, which identified a 2cm diameter 5cm long stick lodged between her 108-208 upper cheek teeth! The stick was promptly carefully removed with periodontal forceps and the mare was soon happily eating again. I admit very poor photo quality, but a good example how interesting the equine oral cavity can be! See more

01.01.2022 Happy birthday to all my lovely horse patients, I hope your owners gave you an extra dipper of food or biscuit of hay, cheeky carrot, rug for tomorrow's chilly 1C, or just a good scratch and pat. Pictured is Mary and our two horses, Cloak and Moment with dog's Tippy and Fox on a ride to Bega Thai back in March
