25.01.2022 Only two more weeks to our Presentation Night. We are getting reasonable numbers but still waiting on some families to let us know whether that are coming and how many. Look forward to catching up with everyone and celebrating the season gone.

25.01.2022 Hi all, thank you to all those who were able to turn up last night to discuss the future direction of the club. I think it is exciting that West will be taking a different approach from the other clubs by contracting a mature age coach with considerable experience. This ensures the club improves as a unit rather than some of our good juniors making way for overseas players who may be gone the following year. For those who could not attend, the successful applicant was Sean R...oodt, who has played first class cricket in South Africa as a player and captain. He has also played club cricket in Australia in the WA suburban turf cricket comp (would be a higher standard than GCA given there is a greater volume of players) and England. Most recently in 2011 where he was the playing coach for Burbage & Eastern Royals who compete in the West England Premier Cricket League. Sean has been a cricket coach at John Vorster High School, and run and owned various cricket academies in South Africa. He has coached the Swaziland International U19 World Cup qualifying team (they compete against the other African nations prior to the World Cup). He also coached Marchant de Lange as a junior who went on to play for South Africa in test, 1 day and T20 cricket. I spoke to Sean earlier to let him know that the club was keen to trial this concept. I let him know that the club would draw up an agreement (the committee will get together for this) for both parties to sign to ensure there were clear expectations from both sides. I also asked him some questions that were raised on night. For your info Sean sees this as a long term proposition for it to work. Small improvements the first year but then exponentially going forward. He is keen to get to Australia and help our club and may be here prior to the season starting (all dependent on visas and paperwork etc). He is keen to work with the u17s and if here prior to the season starting may run a winter program or two as a way of trying to recruit more boys to the club. He also advised that he would be available most nights of the week for those keen on small group training for personal improvement. Finally Sean would like to bring his sons out for the cricket this season if able. If this comes off it will also help with our junior program and his connection with the club. Thanks again to those involved last night and go West. Colac West CC Committee

25.01.2022 Lucky enough to spend a couple of hours with CA and Renegades coach Tim Coyle earlier this year. Below is an example of his recommendation on how to practice sliding catches. Who knew training could be fun. Great focus on the ball Lucas!!

09.01.2022 Hi guys, we have been given the "go ahead" by state government to play cricket this season, commencing last week. As a club we have been putting together a return to train and play Covid plan to ensure your child's health is protected to the best of our ability and in accordance with the recommendations from the state health officer. We will notify everyone when this is approved and we can meet again at the Western Oval. What can you do? Well this year the club is needing mo...re junior players to ensure we can field teams in the two age groups. If you have friends or family members who would enjoy playing cricket this summer, invite them along to the first training session. This summer let's all come out from our Covid shutdown and live life in a safe environment. Thanks - Colac West CC

04.01.2022 Congratulations Sophie Walker on making team of the year. Sophie started her cricket career at Stoneyford before coming to Colac West in 2016/17 to play in our under 14 team with the boys. That season as a 12 year old she had her 1st senior game in Div 3 where her legspin took 4 wickets from her 8 overs. The following season she again competed in the under 14s team and played 2 senior games against the men, her best figures being 3 wickets for 13 against Deans Marsh. This ...season 2018/19, Soph has gone to play for Geelong CC womens first XI, which has seen her travel as far as Frankston, and having a successful year, taking 22 wickets at an average of 16. To cap of her first year at a Premier cricket club, Soph has just been selected in the team of the year for that competition (over 400 players). From all of us at Colac West, congratulations Sophie and good luck with your cricket going forward. Colac West CC Committee

03.01.2022 Good news guys, as of 11:59pm Wednesday 16th we have been allowed to resume outdoor non-contact sport in groups of up to 10 people. This has now been confirmed to include cricket. This does not include club coordinated training sessions and is no way sanctioned by the club until such time as the club can obtain an approved COVID safe plan (we have received a template late this afternoon from Cricket Victoria that Nathan Barnden and I will look to customise tomorrow). The CDC...A board has pencilled in a start date to the competition of 23/24 October so we encourage you to comply with the rules and enjoy each other’s company getting ready for the coming season. Good luck guys and we will continue to update you as more is revealed. Colac West CC Committee.

01.01.2022 Hi all, Hamza Hussain landed in Melbourne last night and is now settled in Colac. He has met some of the seniors, had a look at the training facility at Trinity and clubrooms at Irrewarra and is now keen to meet the rest of the club. For those of you around, we will be at Trinity tonight from 4pm - 6pm, with the u14s and u17s, hope you can all make it.... Tonight Hamza is keen to meet you all, see how you go about it and then work out with Brighty a training plan that we can all embrace. If you want to break the ice with Hamza you can ask him how he prepares mentally knowing he is about to open the batting with Ashton Turner or bowl spin to Ben Dunk. Exciting times. West is best.
