25.01.2022 This week we are supporting the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) community by raising funds and awareness through wearing Red and/or Crazy Hair. The children came dressed in red, they arrived with coloured hair, crazy hairstyles that resembled a volcano, an octopus, a mohawk, frizzes, rainbows, unicorns and there was even an octopus hairstyle. At our Preschool we have one of our friends in attendance who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was just 5 weeks old. Imagine the shock to... his parents, but there is a cure being worked on and so we thought we would take part in this crazy day over a couple of days this week. A Gold coin donation will go a long way towards supporting the research needed to achieve a cure. Thanks for joining in the fun everyone! 22.01.2022 Much more than FUN - a learning opportunity. Children being able to take risks in a safe and controlled way builds self esteem and confidence in their ability to challenge themselves.
22.01.2022 What a great reminder for us all
21.01.2022 Today we were treated to 'Little Scientists' activities and experiments. The favourite chosen by the majority in both groups were the 'grabbers'. The whiteboard was very clever as the parts had magnets attached and the children needed to adjust the parts to ensure the marbles rolled down into the funnel catcher at the bottom. The slinky spring that 'walked' down the stairs was another favourite of many. Magic words were said when throwing the balls from one hand to another which helped change the colours from the inside to the outside! Thank you to the Management Committee for funding this special end of term treat.
21.01.2022 There is a laugh every day. Happy, energetic and creative children with some of these photos taken by the children- can you guess which ones? Thanks to everyone who supported our Crazy hair and Red day to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. Together from both days we raised about $260! And a big thank you to Siobhan for being such an easy going and happy relief teacher this week.
21.01.2022 Do you sometimes wonder whether some waste items can be recycled or not? Thanks to Northern Beaches Council for providing this list to help us all dispose of waste correctly.
21.01.2022 Do you want to know more about the National Quality Framework? If so, look here: https://www.startingblocks.gov.au//national-quality-frame/
21.01.2022 Using loose parts and re-purposing stones encouraged many children to stop, focus, reflect and concentrate on the task at hand. It also gave an invitation to the children to be as creative as they wished to add to the basic designs throughout the morning. Thus, encouraging respect for the work of others.
18.01.2022 Please would you share this video? Why share it with friends and family? Because we know the coming months won't be easy for the ABC. With the threat of more cuts looming in the October budget, a hostile report commissioned by Morrison and the Murdoch Press levelling more malicious attacks on our public broadcaster, GetUp members are working tirelessly to convince politicians on both sides of Parliament to protect our ABC from further cuts. But to have the best chance at savi...ng our National Broadcaster we need as many of our like-minded neighbours, friends and family members to get on board. #SaveOurABC See more
18.01.2022 Teaching life skills through games. A simple game of naughts and crosses teaches a child turn taking, strategy, planning and learning to be a good winner but more importantly a gracious loser.
17.01.2022 Today the children engaged in brain gym activities, core strengthening exercises, under arm throwing, balancing, body positioning, team work and listening tasks. A huge thank you to Fiona for visiting and teaching us all some fantastic skills based games. At the end, we played a fun game with the parachute which left many of us puffed. A funny comment was heard at one point, made by one of the girls who said 'oh god' when she engaged in the tuck position first and then crossing over of our legs, touching our opposite knees etc. all the while bottom balancing!
16.01.2022 Friendships are made at preschool with friends and classmates helping each other to achieve goals and to make special pictures for a classmate who was away this week after having an operation. An avocado and some fries played their part in helping us learn about 'all the time food' and 'sometimes food' as part of the 'munch and move' program we incorporate in our preschool curriculum.
16.01.2022 Some of the Preschool children have been attending school orientations and so, we watched a 'Typical Day in Kindergarten' created by children at Narrabeen Lakes Public School. We also looked at the websites of other schools ... The expression of pride, beginning ownership, happiness, excitement and the opportunity to tell peers a little about their school was so valuable and meaningful. See what we were watching in this photo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X27vqNfnPgc&feature=youtu.be Check your child's school website out as this is another way of preparing the children for their transition to school.
15.01.2022 This Wednesday is Early Childhood Educators Day! A perfect time to thank our educators for all that they do for our little ones. Shared from Munch and Move Northern Sydney
15.01.2022 Can you see the learning: the concentration: the collaboration: the problem solving? Preschool children are continuously learning which is why they need time to just relax and be in the moment too. At the end of the week, the children are tired and ready for some time at home- just like us adults! Have a great weekend.
15.01.2022 Great reminders...
14.01.2022 The magic of colour mixing. This experiment has taken us through literacy, sensory play, experimentation and research which goes hand in hand with trial and error. What a way to teach children to become independent in their thinking and knowledge.
14.01.2022 When Educators create music rich environments for children it helps to further develop children's fine motor skills; cognitive skills of rhythm, beat, pitch, loud, and soft, concentration and attention span; musical awareness; and emotional development! - Early Childhood Educator Friends
13.01.2022 One of the boys noticed that the water in the bowl we have out for the animals was dirty. We cleaned it and put fresh water in. 2 more boys joined in and together they put the stones back in the bowl so the animals wouldnt drown. They commented that they added a few leaves to sweeten the water. Nice example of the children being aware of the environment and looking after the animals.
13.01.2022 Well, the chips were delicious! Thank you to one of the children for autonomously organising to bring in extra potatoes and to Jane for letting us use her air fryer. In 20 minutes the chips were ready and were gone in less than 5! One of the children asked if they were real chips (because we had left the skin on) and another commented how nice they were when they had been salted before being air fried and after when some of the children sprinkled on more salt.
13.01.2022 Today, one of the classes was treated to a visit by one of the mums who taught us the skill of underarm throwing. We needed to point to where we were aiming at, hold a ball or a bean bag in our upturned hand and while keeping our arm straight do a 'tick tock' and throw. Such great listeners and throwers! After demonstrations and practice, there were 4 different tabloid activities to complete and so there were 4 teams of 5 children and one adult. We (children and teachers) all learnt new skills and strategies. Thanks so much Fiona! #munchandmove Munch and Move SWS
12.01.2022 Mirrors in Early Childhood Classrooms help children further develop their emotional and cognitive development. Children learn self-discovery, self-awareness, and self identification. When Educators sit with children, they can talk to the children about what they see in the mirror and help to identify and label the different body parts - further developing children's language skills. - Early Childhood Educator Friends

12.01.2022 Wishing all the dads a very Happy Father's Day on Sunday. You are so important in your child's world and have the power to help them become the best they can be: in their life, in their relationships and in how they perceive themselves.
11.01.2022 We have a 'new' 40 year anniversary birthday cake recipe book available for borrowing from our Parent Library. Thank you to Mim's family for donating this book to preschool. Such great classic cakes! Which cake have you made from this book?
10.01.2022 Next week is Science Week. You might like to experiment with science at home.Check at this link for science related events. https://www.scienceweek.net.au
10.01.2022 If you are choosing to use disposable masks in place of re-useable masks, please think about their responsible disposal. Masks and gloves are becoming a major hazard to our oceans, water ways and wildlife. The plastic problem was already a huge problem before the virus and now we have an additional threat to the health of the oceans and planet. Something that will affect all of our children. Masks cannot be recycled and must be placed in the bin- but first please cut the elastic off the sides to prevent birds becoming tangled up in them. Learn more here about this increasing marine debris problem. https://theecohub.ca/how-to-dispose-of-masks-and-gloves-re/
10.01.2022 This infographic is something to always keep in our mind for the sake of the health of the ocean and our children's future. At least 50% of our oxygen comes from the ocean. So we had better look after it and all the creatures that live in it.Take 5 for the sea at every opportunity.
09.01.2022 Dinosaurs were a popular theme this week. One of the children brought in his mini dinosaur landscape and used them as inspiration to draw a picture of different types of dinosaurs for his new school teacher next year. The huge volcano made by a family from 2019 was in use again and together the children carried it down to the mud area to set up a dinosaur landscape that they could play with in person. They dug a water hole and added the lava to the top of the volcano. In the obstacle course area, a number of the children pretended that the black 'soft fall' was lava and they had to climb from object to object without getting burnt by it. Imagination, collaboration, problem solving, creating and team work was the order of the day!
08.01.2022 Thank you to the Northern Beaches Council for organising professional repairs on the street art design on the bus stop outside Collaroy Plateau Community Kindergarten. We are so appreciative that the council respects the talented and creative work by street artists and is striving to maintain the aesthetics of the neighbourhood. Such a great role model for the young children who walk past this bus stop every day. We would be happy to learn how we at CPCK can help to protect this work in the future.
08.01.2022 Writing words to accompany drawings encourages the understanding that words and sentences communicate meaning. Reading stories and sharing story books written and illustrated by one of our dads captivates the childrens imagination and inspires children to create their own. Listening to and discussing stories about personal safety help keep children safe. Such a fun and supportive way to pave the way to early literacy #EarlyLearningMattersWeek

02.01.2022 Brave, agile, energetic, coordinated, fearless, strong, active and fun loving preschoolers. What beautiful weather for just over half of the preschool week!
01.01.2022 Today we decided to plant some seeds in the tank garden ... and the children were excited to discover Sweet potato and Desiree potatoes growing perfectly after the tops had died off. So, tomorrow we are going to use a borrowed air fryer to cook up some chips (we hope).
