03.01.2022 October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month and here at Cooee we are sharing information to raise public awareness of this rare genetic condition. Check out this infographic from our Speech Pathologist Steph on some key information about Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome affects 1 in 10,000 female births. That means a girl is born with Rett Syndrome every 2 hours. Rett Syndrome can occur in males as well, however it is very rare. Rett Syndrome is caused by a mutation on the X chromos...ome. Each child with Rett is different, however children often experience breathing difficulties, cardiac problems, swallowing and digestion difficulties, scoliosis, seizures, reduced eye contact, and loss of communication ability. Near constant repetitive hand movements while awake are a hallmark of Rett Syndrome. Help us raise awareness of Rett Syndrome by sharing this post or our Rett Syndrome blog (see website), and talking to your friends and family about Rett Syndrome. If you would like more information about Rett be sure to head Rettsyndrome.org
