25.01.2022 Multi-planar plyometrics are a great progression not only for improving reactivity and power but they also serve as a brilliant tool for more advanced athletes, teaching them to apply multiple landing strategies in a range of vectors/planes in a single sequence. Keep the volume low and dont get too elaborate too quickly. 2-3 jumps in 1-2 directions is more than enough complexity without it becoming a dance routine. @bel.woolcock getting it done off the @ironedgetraining plyo box with a drop to bounce to horizontal bound

20.01.2022 We couldn't be more proud of Core Advantage [email protected] and Cody Freeman for their recent efforts raising money for the Stroke Foundation. During August, Jordyn and Cody's poppy sadly suffered an Ischemic Stroke and is rehabilitating in a purpose builtcentre in Canberra which happens to be 666km away. Seeing as they were unable to travel to visit him due to COVID, they decided to clock up 666kms by running, riding and walking in 66 days to raise funds and awarene...ss. They have recently completed their target kms and have raised over $6600 which is an incredible effort! 18.01.2022 T-MINUS 28 DAYS Yesterday the premier officially announced the return date for gyms as Monday the 22nd of June (if current trends are maintained). During isolation we decided we wanted to create the best version of Core Advantage to date for athletes to return to. So over the past few weeks weve been working hard making improvements to the gym, and its not long now until these are revealed!... Cant wait to see you all soon!

16.01.2022 The gyms are still closed, sport is still locked out (for now), how have you been staying game ready? This is our at-home, equipment-free, agility workout level one, and there are two ways to slice it. Option one is as a metabolic circuit, longer work sets, shorter rest, more burn in the legs and sweat on your brow!... Option two is as a speed and power circuit, short high intensity sets, with longer rest in between. This version of the workout is about developing your explosive reactive ability, improve your vertical and change of direction speed. 12.01.2022 With the relaunch of Core Advantage 3.0 tomorrow, we have implemented new processes to remain diligent surrounding COVID-19 and the current restrictions. 1 Stay at home if you are feeling unwell or showing symptoms 2 Wash and sanitise youre hands thoroughly before anything else 3 Get your temperature checked by a coach... 4 Check in via the tablet at the front and warm up in the back room 5 Keep 1.5m apart Please take some time to familiarise yourself with them before entering the gym!

12.01.2022 Fuel for the work ahead. The message we were all left with after our second nutrition workshop with @dr_dom_condo this past Wednesday. During iso, the intensity or duration of your training may be different. The same could go for your carbohydrate intake.... For some of us, this may have an impact on body composition. So how do we maintain or improve body comp, while still performing? 1 Manipulation of carbohydrate intake (aka Carbohydrate Periodisation) around your training week. Essentially, get in good quality carbs when they are needed, and restrict them when they arent as much. 2 The actual amount of carbs to have will be different for everyone, and the extent of restriction will then also vary. It is important to see a sports dietician if youre unsure how to do this, so as to avoid any negative effect on performance. 10.01.2022 Heel walks as management for shin splints! Izzy here is one of our @fhc_academy athlete and recently has experienced some symptoms due to a spike in load. With training loads only looking to increase in the coming weeks, it’s super important we get on top of this before Izzy’s soccer season kicks off.... Heel walks are a great option for shin splint management as they overload Tibialis Anterior whilst inhibiting the overactive Tibialis Posterior. 07.01.2022 Its not a speed ladder. . Its not an agility ladder . Its a foot speed and quickness ladder.... . And its great for reactivity, teaching short elastic ground contact, rhythm, coordination and foot quickness. We use it *occasionally* as a neural primer, to develop the above qualities, or as a bit of fun and cognitive challenge. Keep it short and simple though, 2-3 patterns, 2-3 times each and thats it. You might still get good sleep quantity, but the thing that really suffers is the quality of your deep sleep. Caffeine interrupts the brains ability to switch off while we sleep blocking the truly restful deep an REM stages of sleep.... 02.01.2022 This week we received this terrific email from one of our awesome young athletes. Please give it a read and support if you can. The cause is great and the initiative shown is just brilliant: Dear Durham, On the 4th of August, our Poppy suffered an Ischemic Stroke and is currently in an amazing purpose-built rehabilitation centre in Canberra. We are devastated, being in Melbourne, so far away and with COVID restrictions, unable to go and visit him. ... Im in Year 11 & my brother Cody is in Year 7 at McKinnon Secondary College. Both of us are really into physical activity and during the lockdown, we have been keeping up our fitness with running, gym, and chasing our new puppy Storm round the house. Apparently, we also have to clean up after her EVERYDAY :) We have decided that we want to run to raise money & awareness in support of the Stroke Foundation. Every 10 mins an Australian will have a stroke. A stroke is one of Australias biggest killers and a leading cause of disability, but more than 80% of strokes can be prevented. It kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer. In doing so, we hope our contribution can be used towards new research and/or the purchase of extra equipment required in the rehabilitation process. We also believe this initiative will help us connect in a new way with our Poppy and bring a smile to his face. He has dedicated his life to supporting his community and this is something little we can do to support him. As we live in Melbourne we are currently only allowed outside for 1 hour a day and can travel no further than 5km away from our house. So we are going to have to be creative. This is why we are planning to travel virtually 666km in 66 days. The 666km is how far away we are from our Poppy. Our goal is to raise $6,666 which equates to $10 per km. To travel the distances we are planning to run, ride and walk outside and maybe even sneak in a few treadmill runs indoors. Our new puppy Storm might even be able to contribute a kilometer to two. 02.01.2022 Twenty years ago I had the dream of opening up the best high performance centre in Australia. A place where anyone could get world class coaching to help them fulfil their athletic potential. Ten years ago I started seriously planning it. ... Five years ago @coach.jacob and I opened Core Advantage and it has been an amazing, exhilarating and exhausting ride. Today we have a world class gym thanks to @ironedgetraining , a brilliant team of coaches and an incredible community of athletes who are sticking with us through this difficult time. However on this beautiful Saturday morning when our gym would normally be pumping it just sits idle. It sucks...but we have to remember a lot of people are worse off than us right now. We are deflated but not defeated. Over the coming months we will be spending a lot of time in front of our computers putting all our energy into delivering the best online programming we can. We will coach the hell out of this situation so our athletes emerge from lockdown ready to dominate their sports. When we are not doing that we will be planning and prepping for our reboot so that Core Advantage also comes out of lockdown stronger and better than ever. Thanks to everyone for your messages of support this last week, we can wait to see you all soon, Durham and the team.

01.01.2022 Have you tried out our Fartlek timer on the Core Advantage Interval App? It is an interval randomiser that gives you a tough and unpredictable workout with hard, moderate and easy efforts of varied lengths and in a random order. Every time you do it the workout the challenge is different, making you hurt in new ways and pushing your mental toughness just as much as it pushes your fitness. ... Its the perfect stimulus for sport specific fitness and a great shake up to your current conditioning routine!

01.01.2022 Home bodyweight routines are a great starting point for your lockdown training program, but for our more advanced athletes there is a need for something more to tap into the nervous system and create high end strength adaptations. Enter the multi position isometrics workout. By using a strap, rope, towel or something similar it is possible to replicate a lot of the intensity we get in the gym lifting big weights from a high end nervous system point of view. Try these multi-position holds out as their own workout or weave them into your other training #athletelockdown
