24.01.2022 A massive effort from the public Pathology team and many others across services who’ve put in many hours to ensure our state is safe and Tasmanians know their results quickly. Thank you for your hard work behind the scenes during this pandemic. #ProudToBePublic
23.01.2022 Fresh take on the Patrick dispute from union legend, artist Sam Wallman (https://twitter.com/wallmansam/). Same old same old from the bosses. Solidarity with Maritime Union of Australia - MUA members!
23.01.2022 Union members are flat out in the run up to this week's State Budget, calling on our State MPs and Legislative Councillors to support a lasting recovery, by: Backing secure jobs for a lasting recovery Guaranteeing good wages and ruling out pay freezes Investing more in the public services we want and rely on. ... Thanks to the Tasmanian Labor team for pledging to support the workers who supported all of us. Follow Team Tasmania for to get involved!
23.01.2022 . They are some of the hidden heroes of this pandemic. Terri and her team have been key to COVID-19 testing in Tasmania. Their workload has doubled, with the team working extra weekends to ensure samples are ready for testing so Tasmanians can quickly hear back about their results. It’s an around the clock task, with COVID-19 samples arriving in batches from 6am until about 10.30pm seven days... a week. My team is made up of data entry and central specimen reception. We receipt samples into the laboratory, identity check them, ensure the sample types are correct for the tests requested, data enter them into the computer system and distribute them for testing. 21.01.2022 There are 50 unemployed Tasmanians for every 1 job vacancy. Cutting JobSeeker. And. JobKeeper. Won't. Create. Jobs.

18.01.2022 Hands up if you pay more tax than the guy who owns a skyscraper.
16.01.2022 CPSU Organiser Angela met with Margate Primary School School Business Manager Kate Lucas this morning. School Admin Staff keep Tassie schools running term-to-term and year-to-year, which hasn't been an easy task during 2020, of all years! However, these workers often don't have enough resources to do their important work. The CPSU is working together with these school admin staff to ensure they have the secure resourcing they need for the future.
13.01.2022 #BREAKING: GUTWEIN BUDGET MORE THAN A MISSED OPPORTUNITY CPSU Acting Secretary Thirza White: This budget follows the disappointing lead of the Morrison Government with a fixation on infrastructure jobs which will provide a short-term boost to the economy, while delivering no permanent jobs and failing to improve the daily lives of Tasmanians,"... The Budget acknowledges the important role of the Parks and Wildlife Service in regional employment, but doesn’t significantly fund new jobs to manage the natural and cultural heritage which are the soul of our tourism industry, This budget fails to address understaffing in Child Safety through permanent jobs. Out of home care continues to be a rising cost and it’s time we considered reversing the privatisation of this critical service to deliver better outcomes for our state’s most vulnerable young people. We welcome some new funding for DPIPWE but will be looking closely to see whether these jobs will be secure jobs or a continuation of seasonal and insecure work in the agency. Without a job you can count on employees are unlikely to have the confidence to spend in local businesses. CPSU Members will be pleased to see some investment in Courts, the Tasmania Prison Service and State Growth, but this budget lacks a vision for how the public sector could drive a jobs recovery for our state." Investing in Public Sector jobs doesn’t just improve services, it drives consumer demand. There is no bigger opportunity for kick-starting our economy than by providing Tasmanians secure jobs that give them the confidence to spend in local businesses. Follow Team Tasmania and support a plan for a jobs recovery that supports the workers who supported us!
12.01.2022 110 whales saved! A massive effort from this group of Tasmanian aquaculture workers and volunteers led by the experts from DPIPWE. Long days, cold conditions and the largest stranding in Australian history. Thank you for your dedication and hard work. DPIPWE employees are experienced professionals during major incidents like these, whether it’s whale strandings, fruit fly incursions, devastating bushfires or outbreaks like the Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome. #ProudToBePublic

08.01.2022 This. We need a plan for recovery that creates jobs for the working people who've carried us through the pandemic. Not just tax cuts for the top end of town.
08.01.2022 On State Budget Day Acting Secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union Thirza White tells readers in today’s The Mercury Newspaper that it is time we fixed DPIPWE. It is Parks and Wildlife Service employees who fight fires in our national parks. It is biosecurity officers who are responsible for protecting our border and ensuring tourists are complying with COVID restrictions. DPIPWE is our surge workforce. More DPIPWE employees were deployed to the COVID-19 response ...than any agency. Despite this, austerity measures have such a tight grip in DPIPWE that employees are denied the resources to do the job. In today’s budget it is time we fixed DPIPWE. The government needs to provide DPIPWE with the staff, resources and equipment it needs to do the job. Or next time we might find it is not there to help us when we need it the most.
07.01.2022 This morning we had our emergency superannuation summit. Here’s what you need to know. Every speaker supported the need for the scheduled superannuation incre...ases due in July to go ahead. Bill Kelty, former ACTU Secretary, and one of the architects of the superannuation system, spoke about how the system was designed to ensure no worker was left behind. Heather Ridout, former head of the AiG, spoke about how superannuation not only supports workers, but also supports and invests in the Australian economy which will be so vital as we look to rebuild post-pandemic. Former Liberal leader John Hewson denounced the Government’s attacks on our super system, and their hypocrisy in taking home 15.4% in super while simultaneously expecting Australians to scrape by on 9.5%. We are truly not all in this together. Emma Dawson, Executive Director of Per Capita, outlined how the superannuation freeze and the Government’s early access to super scheme have disproportionately impacted women, young people, and low-income earners. We heard from Sherree Clarke who is an assistant in nursing in aged care. She spoke so powerfully about how she worries about becoming a statistic in the rise of homelessness among older women due to her low superannuation balance. If the superannuation increase to 12% doesn’t go ahead, she could be up to $35,000 worse off by retirement. She has already lost $4000 since super was last frozen in 2014. And we heard from Del Brookes, who has been a disability support worker for 15 years and cares for her mother. Unless the Government increases the superannuation guarantee, Del and so many of her colleagues will be retiring into poverty they simply do not have enough super. Our message to working people is this: We will never give up. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with you to demand your government respects your right to an equitable and dignified retirement, and delivers the legislated increase in the super guarantee we will hold them to account on that promise they made to you at the last election.
06.01.2022 "It had all the ingredients of the usual outrage because, for most people, trans women are not really women. But here’s the thing: of course trans women are women."
03.01.2022 Wishing our Jewish community an easy fast today on Yom Kippur! G'mar chatima tovah! From the whole team at the CPSU!
03.01.2022 It's workers who've carried us through this pandemic. Workers are also key to our response, recovery and better services for all Tasmanians. Let's make sure they have secure jobs and the resources they need to do their important work.

02.01.2022 Victoria's State budget: Paid pandemic leave. Protects public sector wages, doesn't freeze them. Public sector cuts off the table. Almost $100m to before- and after-school care.... $15m in subsidies to hire 6,000 women, in response to the Morrison Government's woefully inadequate HomeBuilder program and toothless Women's Economic Security Statement. Even more for mental health and school tutoring. Fixing digital blackspots. This is how you build a recovery that puts ALL workers front and centre. Agree? Head to Team Tasmania

01.01.2022 Yet again the Red Cross puts out an urgent call for blood donors, while still not allowing gay, bi or trans people to donate unless we’re celibate. Australia on...ly has two days supply of blood, but GBT people are prevented from giving the gift of life based on decades-old science and centuries-old prejudices. What makes this even more frustrating is that in April a reduction in the celibacy requirement was flagged to deal with pandemic blood shortages. It won’t work, but even this tokenistic measure hasn’t come into force yet despite being approved by the Commonwealth and states. How much longer will this irrational, unnecessary, counterproductive, life-jeopardising, stigma-perpetuating policy go on? How long? Just.equal recently wrote to all health ministers about whether they asked any questions about the proposal for a reduced celibacy period. Here’s the media statement... https://ymlp.com/zGYakm See more
