25.01.2022 Here us a survey from Inner West Council, asking for your input on what you think about our suburbs. Please take the time to do it. Hopefully it will help them give us what we want. https://survey.placescore.org//InnerWestNeighbourhoodLP201

23.01.2022 Our region is already under enormous pressure, our schools are at capacity, our roads need upgrading the infrastructure to meet the current development is laggi...ng behind. The 2017-18 Budget did not provide a single additional dollar for Canterbury Hospital, which is under enormous pressure as the population grows. Local groups are having trouble finding open spaces for kids to play in. Canterbury Road is one of Sydneys main arterial roads, but the Berejiklian Government funds it like a billygoat track. Congestion means lost productivity and lost opportunities for local employment. This is suburban overdevelopment on steroids. Please Make a submission to the Planning Dept on how this will affect our community @ http://planspolicies.planning.nsw.gov.au/index.pl

22.01.2022 Dear supporters, CRAG is getting ready to start canvassing support for our fight against development of the Area 6 Carpark at Canterbury Race course. 2021 is fast approaching and we need to step up our campaign. We are planning on doing a letter box drop and need help to distribute leaflets in the local area and to spread the word. If you are able to help out at all please let us know by private message and we will add you to our list of helpers.

21.01.2022 Dear Ratepayers and Residents, During the first two night racing meetings in February the ATC has unilaterally closed the Area 6 carpark and directed all traffic to the infield carpark. This has resulted in more than usual street parking around the racecourse.... Importantly, this is in direct contravention of the agreement around night racing in 1998. CRAG sent a letter alerting Council to this action by the ATC.Their reply is in the letter below. Council agrees that this action contravenes the agreement. Everyone attending the races on Friday night is encouraged to park in the Area 6 car park to demonstrate your concern at the ATCs actions.

21.01.2022 Green space will continue to be under pressure in a growing city, already the competition and debate over what might be the best use for that left is increasing, yet Canterbury Park Racecourse, the largest geenspace left in the Inner West might have to give way to more residential towers if Race club officials get their wish, are we not missing something here ?

20.01.2022 This is another very worrying issue. We will lose 8 stations from the Bankstown line and be cut out if the city circle if Gladys has her way.

19.01.2022 FIX NSW is holding a rally at Hyde Park to rally against the various transport issues that are effecting Sydney at the moment. They need numbers so if you have the time please lend your support because this effects everyone. http://www.westconnex.info/fix_nsw_transport#

18.01.2022 UPDATE EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO RESTRICTIONS Please help to support the action against turning The Canterbury Bowling & Community Club into the Sydney Metro Compound. The heavy vehicle traffic in and out will be ridiculous and quite dangerous.

18.01.2022 ***********************************UPDATE****************************************** The DA papers have finally been delivered to Canterbury Library. Anyone wanting to view then will need to attend the library. Unfortunately we can't get copies. We need as many people as possible to object to the proposal so that the ATC will not be able to stop using the carpark on race days and also to ultimately prevent them from selling it off for development. The ATC has requested a DA to... removed the Area 6 carpark from use on Friday Night Racing. This will mean that there will be more cars parked in the streets on Friday Night Racing nights and the prospect of them selling off the land to developers to build more highrise. You can see the DA at Canterbury Bankstown Council. We will be updating as we find out more. https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track

17.01.2022 Great news for our Cooks River, finally it will get the attention it needs

16.01.2022 Last thing for today, while the Planning Panel meeting is the more direct and dramatic way that residents can comment on a Planning or Development application, ...Council are working on improvements to the way residents can engage in more convenient, collaborative and less intimidating ways. Currently on exhibition is a draft "Community Participation Plan" which is worth a lookover. Unfortunately the last day to comment is COB tomorrow, but I think it looks promising, at least in theory anyway..... https://haveyoursay.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/community-participati

16.01.2022 "Canterbury Racecourse would provide much needed public open space that could be designed in the fashion of Centennial Park" !! Wow ! A phenomenal promise by Canterbury Bankstown Council strategists in their report titled "Connective City 2036" (on exhibition now) which is worth a look. While you wont want to read all 100 pages in detail, a quick scan and word search will uncover some very promising objectives around protection of environment, heritage, more sensitive buildin...gs, restoring Cooks river and amazingly numerous mentions of reclaiming Canterbury Racecourse as open-space rather than allow it to fall to the developers ! While short on any real strategy or costings to achieve these aims, I still think we should all take 5 minutes to show our support for the objectives at least. Go to the CBCC "have your say" portal ! Exhibition Closes November 15th. https://haveyoursay.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/connectivecity2036

13.01.2022 Hi All, Please see below for some points on what to put in your submission to council in objection to the DA. Please stick to the points about the Area 6 carpark as this is what we are fighting right now:- Dear Ms Porter I am writing to object to the proposed DA8910/1997/B on the following basis;... 1. The parking area 6 is absolutely necessary as it is full and overflowing almost every Night Race meeting, photographic evidence from last season is attached showing parking full in Area 6 from very early in the evening! 2. Alternative parking infield is difficult to find, not convenient for most patrons, has no accessibility for mobility impaired people and is a long way from the main entrance to the Racecourse. This means cars will almost definitely try to use nearby residential street parking instead. 3. The athletics field across from the entrance of the Racecourse and Area 6 is used for sports events regularly on Friday nights, meaning competition for street parking near the Racecourse entrance is often intensified. 3. A condition of approval for Night Racing in the original DA (DA8910/1997) suggests that every effort should be made to provide sufficient parking so as to minimize the impact on local residents, this DA does not adequately address the impact of the loss of Area 6 parking for up to 240 cars. 4. As per the Australian Turf Clubs Annual Report 2017, pages 3, 7, 15 etc, states that the ATC have partnered with Mirvac Property Group specifically to develop this piece of land at Area 6 for future apartments. This DA needs to disclose the true intent in the interests of transparency. As a minimum, the DA needs to spell out the potential impact on local residents as this is not obvious currently. 5. A Heritage Impact Statement is also required to be included with this DA as Area 6 borders the "Ashbury Heritage Conservation Area". Please refer to Canterbury DCP , section B8.2.1 (g) "Land in the vicinity of a heritage item or a Heritage Conservation Area." Thank you for considering my submission.

12.01.2022 Markets back on tomorrow night, 29th Nov ! be there !

08.01.2022 Good to see City of Sydney Council have both recognized the need for more open recreation space in the inner city and have proactively gone out to relaim and restore the Johnsons creek foreshore and parkland under their new masterplan. https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au//johnston-creek-parkla

08.01.2022 The last night racing day for the season this Friday. Let's get down there and make it a big one. Remember to park in the Princess St Carpark. We need to let the ATC know we don't want this area to be closed. It needs to be open.it is the best position to park for convenience. Take the letter with you and insist on parking in the Princess St Carpark.

08.01.2022 Dear subscribers, friends and followers, the Canterbury Racecourse Action Group (CRAG) is inviting you to come and meet the CRAG team for a Q&A session this coming Saturday 17th October at Canterbury Park from 10am. Bring your friends, family and all your unanswered questions and meet the heroes who have been battling to save the beautiful greenspace of Canterbury Park Racecourse from large scale development over the past couple of years. We are coming to a crossroads and the... threat to our park is very real, please come down to learn about the park, the history and how much we actually have to lose! Meet us outside of the Princess St carpark (Area 6), Cnr King and Princess St's, opposite the entrance to Canterbury Park Racecourse from 10am till midday (look for our new white hats). Ps this is a family friendly, Covid safe event, please respect social distancing and guidelines in line with the latest Health departments advice - no more than 20 people are allowed to congregate at any time during an outdoor event and you will be requested to leave details on a sign in sheet for contact tracing. 07.01.2022 Linda Eisler (Greens) is putting up a motion on this Tuesday at Council meeting to point out Community concerns about the emergency planning powers. If people/groups can email / contact their Ward Councillors asap to state their concerns, it would be helpful. Motion : "That Canterbury Bankstown Council acknowledges the impacts on the community, on business and on employment brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. We also recognise that the NSW State Government ha...s needed to respond with extraordinary legislation to assist the community to stay safe and aid with their economic safety.Canterbury Bankstown Council acknowledges that the amendments to planning legislation have given the Minister powers that include overriding all Council conditions of consent. The NSW State Government has indicated it is proposing to implement further changes to planning legislation in order to fast track development and zonings. We request that NSW State Government consult in and open and timely manner with Council before putting amendments to the Parliament. https://www.cbcity.nsw.gov.au//council-meeting-agendas-min

07.01.2022 Today our members attended a forum held by Sydenham Bankstown Alliance at which they outlined the State Government plans for the Sydenham to Bankstown Metro that they have been planning since 2015. We heard from several Councilers, Local MPs and Mayor Karl Asfour about how this new rail line will effect us. We were blown away by the extent of damage that this poorly planned construction will cause to our lives. We WILL LOSE 8 stations from our current Bankstown line, most of ...the City Circle will be cut off from us and the trains will only hold 30% of the number of travellers that use the existing line. It is mind blowing that this greedy Government can actually think that they can do this right under our noses by telling use we will get a better rail line. There is nothing wrong with our existing line that a few signal changes won't fix to make it more user friendly. Please take the time to look at the information below and #MakeYourVoteCount on election day. https://www.sydbankalliance.com/madness-of-the-metro See more

07.01.2022 Meet the candidates 2019 NSW Election... We wanted to reach out to our candidates to get a feel for their position on the very popular topic of high density development of our suburbs and whether we have adequate green/open space to compensate and of course what they think of the possibility our beautiful racecourse could be sold and developed into more apartments in the near future. We sent the following questions to each candidate in the Summerhill/Canterbury and Strathfiel...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Daily Telegraph mentioned the race course as in a positive light for future racing. It is one of 2 courses that can handle more use on Saturdays. We need our community to get behind it.

06.01.2022 Now what a novel idea, to turn an aging and underutilised golf course into a wonderful public park for everyone to use! I wonder why no-one else has ever thought past the idea of using surplus openspace just to build another forest of high rise apartments......hmmmm??? Good on you Strathfield Council, what a great gesture for your constituents !! https://www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au//strathfield-district-/

02.01.2022 This is the mess we have to live with now. When will it stop? We can't let this keep happening in our suburbs https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//02a3da6471e36ea5ba3ce84

01.01.2022 HELP STOP Development Application at Canterbury Racecourse! Whats this about? Night Racing was approved in 1998 on condition that the Australian Turf Club (ATC) provide adequate parking to minimise the impact of traffic on residents around the racecourse. The car park in Area 6 (corner of King and Princess Street) with 240 car spaces is well used by patrons and frequently full to capacity especially on Friday nights when night racing is held. What is changing?... The ATC wants to remove Area 6 from this condition by arguing that the carpark is no longer needed because of low demand for parking! However, as local residents we know night racing is very popular, attracting crowds of up to 7,000 people since free entry and food stalls were introduced in 2017. We are very concerned because the ATC has also partnered with Mirvac to develop this land into apartments (ATC Annual Report 2018). This has the direct potential to: create more traffic congestion in nearby streets with up to 240 cars needing to find a spot be the first step in the selling off and developing of the Canterbury racecourse further increase density by losing this open space to apartments bring unsympathetic development to the Ashbury Heritage Conservation Area What do I do? Write an objection to Council but submissions close this Tuesday 13 August 2019 - act now!! If enough residents object to this development application it will go to an independent Planning Panel to get properly scrutinised. Please email your objections to: Shona Porter at [email protected] include reference DA8910/1997/B in the subject line of your email clearly state the reason/s why you object to this development.
