15.01.2022 It is with great pleasure that we welcome to our club Jarryd Hatton as coach for the new season in CAW Provincial. A Rutherglen boy, as many will know, Jarryd b...rings a wealth of experience to our young group. A decorated stint at St Patrick’s, saw Jarryd represent the Riverina on many occasions and also NSW Country in the Australian carnival in 16/17. This carnival attracted the interest of the Canberra Comets. His two seasons with Ginnindera in the strong ACT comp culminated in a drought breaking premiership in 2018/19. Illustrious Sydney Premier league club Eastern Suburbs came calling last year for the left arm quick. Practice matches in their first grade team with the likes of NSW captain Peter Neville and Harry Conway showed promise before injury cruelled his season. Back in Albury with the lovely Georgia, Jarryd’s enthusiasm for our game will be evident to all. We look forward to having all of Jarryd’s family and friends made welcome at the club. Get behind him as he prepares us for an exciting period in our history. See more

10.01.2022 As part of Country Cricket NSW getting to know our Bush Blues, Bush Breakers and Bush Umpires - today we have a chat with Country Umpire Representative Panel me...mber Neil "Smiffie" Smith. Name: Neil Smith Cap Number: NSW Country Umpire Representative Umpire 50 Home Association: Cricket Albury Wodonga Zone: Riverina 1.Did you play the game before you took up umpiring? Who did you play with? I commenced playing the game like most people as a Junior in Bega NSW. I started playing senior cricket with Angledale Cricket Club in 1981 in the Far South Coast Cricket Association. I moved to Wollongong with work and played with Albion Park Cricket Club in the South Coast Competition. I played with Dave Cullen’s (a fellow Country Umpire Panel member) twin brother John. Paul Welsford who played first grade in Melbourne and Dennis Cranston at Albion Park. There would not be many people that this audience would know. 2.When and where did you start umpiring? I moved to Toowoomba in Queensland and started umpiring in 1998. With work I could not afford the time to train so hence I decided to get the best seat in the house and be an umpire 3.What does it mean to you being part of the NSW Country representative panel? Being a member of the representative umpire panel is great. You get to umpire Juniors through to Seniors and mix with a group of fellows that have the same interest as you. The country carnivals are fantastic. Great cricket, good umpires and blokes and all having a great time. The comradery amongst the group is second to none and you get to see some quality cricket. You witness great batting and bowling from a close proximity. The support from NSW Cricket Umpires and scorer’s association and NSW Country Cricket is excellent. 4.In your opinion, who is the best Country player you have umpired? Having umpired in the Queensland country and NSW Country I have seen some fantastic players. Players that have played for NSW and Queensland Country respectively. Brian May from Toowoomba scored plenty of runs and averaged over 60 at the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships (TACCC) and was selected in the Australian country team many times. From a NSW perspective I witnessed two great hundreds last year with Nathan Price scoring one in the Country Championships final in Wollongong and Kerrod White scoring a hundred against Queensland at the TACCC. All three of them had time to play their shots 5.Best umpire you have stood with? From my early days a mentor of mine was Graeme Stewart in Toowoomba. He helped me with my early development. In NSW I have umpired with a lot of fantastic people and enjoy umpiring with any one of the Country Panel gents at the other end. I have umpired in Sydney Premier Cricket. I know I am beating around the bush and need to decide LOL. Understand it is hard to name one. OK Darren Goodger from the Sydney perspective and Graeme Glazebrook from the Country. I umpired with Goodge in an Under 19 game in Campbelltown. I first umpired with Graeme in a Country Plate semi-final in Harden in 2010/11. Since that day Graeme and I always enjoyed a beer and a punt. The traits of all three is that they never appear rushed, keep a good control of the game and do not get flustered when put under pressure. 6.Who is the most annoying roommate? I would probably be the most annoying, I never had an annoying room mate 7.Why should someone take up umpiring. I found it a great way to keep involved in a game and watch cricket from the best spot on the ground. I just love the game and the competitive nature of bat against ball. The real highlight is that I have many friendships and acquaintances stemming from cricket and being involved in the game.

02.01.2022 The next person in the Getting to Know Your Bush Blues/Breakers/Umpires is Riverina's Keiran Knight. Knighta has the unique distinction of being cap number 126... as a Bush Blue, but this year has been added to the NSW Country Umpires Panel - cap number 55. Name: Keiran Knight Cap Number: 126 (player) and 55 (umpire) Home Club: Lavington Panthers Zone: Riverina When did you represent the Bush Blues? 2002/3 Bundaberg Queensland What does it mean to you representing the Bush Blues? To be picked in the side means that your are in the best of the best outside of Premier cricket in Sydney. Anytime you get to wear the baggy blue fills you with pride and a hunger to get that little bit extra out of yourself. One of the highlights of my career. Best team mate/room mate you have toured with? It was a terrific group blokes that were in that side. Simon Moore is just a genuine great bloke and a magnificent player. Glen Grimmond was a very powerful batter. These 2 blokes really showed us the way in leadership with their experiences in previous carnivals. Ben Nott was probably the best keeper batsman that year. Superb hands great bloke and a fellow Riverina player I was so pleased to see picked in the Australian side that year. Michael Gerits had a big carnival. Most annoying team mate/room mate you have toured with? No one really stood out but we had a supporter that lived in Warnambool that followed us around. He would have a stubby open by breakfast. He sat with us most of the day asking cricket trivia questions and keeping us on the ball. His name was Dave Hourn. We all knew him as the Madman from Warnambool. Best memory of being a Bush Blue? We finished 4th that season so we were hurting a lot. We did our best though at the rum factory to drown our sorrows. We had Warren Smith as our coach And John McMahon as our manager and we made lifelong friend ship that we will never forget.
