24.01.2022 2019 ! Congratulations to our 2 AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS Lewis Black & Jack Williams 52kg ... FIGHTER OF THE YEAR - Jack Williams - QLD & AUST Champion Completely evolving in the past 12 months from an average boxer to an Australian Champion, Jack owes his success to his new found commitment and drive. He has pushed himself all year to be better to be quicker to be fitter and to be faster. Congratulations Jack, well deserved! MOST COURAGEOUS - Duncan Begg If you really want things to happen in life, you have to make them happen yourself. You can't just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. Where there is a will there is always a way. Thank you Duncan for not only teaching your children this but all of us at GABC! MOST IMPROVED - Justin Serio Everything is within your power, and your power is within you! Yeah Justin was a bit rusty after a 10 year spell, but this trophy is about more then just his boxing skills. Not just facing adversity past 12 months but down right staring it in the eye and telling it where to go has seen you completely change your life, and we couldnt be more prouder of you Justin. CLUB PERSON OF THE YEAR - Lisa ODwyer It makes me Proud to say this was a hard one to pick, we have so many great parents in the club that often go more than the extra mile to support the Club. Lisa is always first to put her hand up, always at every event, and never has to be asked twice to help. Lisa, Thank you for all that you do for our Club. I am pleased to announce our TEAM CAPTAIN for 2020 is Justin Serio! The nomination was accepted by Justin and supported unanimously by all! Justin, you are a role model to all at the Club. This year you have inspired all the boxers to want to be better. People gravitate to be near you, and your contagious grin. Thank you for all that you have brought back to the Club. NON FIGHTING TRAINERS These trophies go to our most dedicate fitness group trainers. Congratulations BEST FEMALE - Nooky Stewart BEST MALE - Michael Peters

23.01.2022 Wishing our GABC 2 QLD reps all the very best this weekend as they represent their state for the first time as contenders for Australian Titles.
23.01.2022 Club Sparring Sat 24.10.20 Thank you to all those that traveled to participate in sparing yesterday! It was great to have Rockhampton, Blackwater, Bundaberg & Yeppoon in the gym for some great rounds. As we all know these club sparring sessions are fundamental in keeping the kids focused for 2021. Good luck to the boys who are competing at the QLD Titles in November. #2021boxing #GABC2021 #GABC25years #Boxingislife
22.01.2022 Come on everyone get in & support this the only way I can get my young bloke to have a haircut is for cancer & Dogs has not had a no 1 clippers since I have known him for 35 years all this is to support Lindsay Smith
21.01.2022 Honoured is an understatement! Thank you The Rotary Club Of South Gladstone & David Nunn from High Risk Solutions for the Paul Harris Fellow nomination. What a massive privilege to be named a Paul Harris Fellow, in appreciation for all the work I have contributed to the community via the Gladstone Amateur Boxing Club. I was surprised & absolutely stoked to have the award presented by Mr & Mrs Hunt & Dave Nunn from the South Rotary Club at what would usually be our Club’s... presentation night. Receiving the award amongst Boxers, parents, club members, my own parents and family made the award all that more precious. I can honestly say as I go into the 25th year of GABC I never started this club for the glory it’s always been about the love of the sport and of course the kids. Everyone who is part of a club knows that it’s not just 1 person it takes an army, & I thank each & every one of you. There have been low times, hard times & stressful times but they are supremely surpassed by the good times, the fun times & with out a doubt the winning times. See more
21.01.2022 Its been a great year but we need to rest because 2020 is going to be even bigger!! See you in 2020, thanks again for you support in 2019.
20.01.2022 Coachs Catch up with Mick Daly Sat March 14th - Brayd Smith City vs Country - Toowoomba #1 Jack Williams Bout - 2 ... Jack, the 2019 52kg Australian Champion went up against Aaron Grealy from All Stars Boxing Academy who was the 2019 48kg Australian Champion. Aaron gave away 2kg with Jack weighing in at 54kg but this didnt show in the ring, with a skilful bout for all 3 rounds. Both showed equal skill, power and fitness, however Jacks cleaner shots positioned him to win by unanimous points decision. #2 Lewis Black Bout - 8 Catrell Rolfe-Chase didnt know what hit him when The Lip let loose! Catrell from Deadly Boxings Club displayed a high degree of fitness and toughness by continually moving forward. But It was evident from start to finish that Lewis controlled every round to win by unanimous points decision. #3 Jordon Dunnett Bout-10 Cassidy Thornberry from Smithys Boxing Gym was set to put on a show in front of his home crowd, and he didnt disappoint. Putting a standing 8 count on Jordy in the first round from which he never recovered mentally or physically. Jordy lost with RSC. The build up to the first tournament of 2020 for the GABC was immense! Everyone of the team had trained in the off season and had pushed them selves harder than ever before at the return training sessions. It was evident that each boxer had grown their ability, fitness, power and mental stamina. As such, it was a major disappointment to have 8 pre matched bouts with 6 opponents withdraw from competition during the week prior. Still the entire team made the 6.5 hour bus ride full of hope for a successfully matched bout at weigh-in, no such luck with only 3 bouts on the night. The Club was super proud to support The Braydon "Brayd" Smith Memorial Cup and Smithys Boxing Club in Toowoomba. Thank you Smithy's TGW Gym for scheduling our bouts early enough for us to drive home & spend Sunday with the fam. Stay safe everyone! fingers crossed that Covid19 is under control ASAP!
20.01.2022 Dear Members It is fair to say that these are unprecedented times that we find ourselves in, with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. We wanted to take the opportunity to let our valued members know that we are closely monitoring advice from the state and federal governments and taking all necessary steps to reduce the risks associated with this virus. ... Please be reassured that we have taken action and will be guided by advice provided by the Federal Government and the Queensland Department of Health in relation to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. We will always put the health and safety of our staff and clients first and we are currently doing all that we can to keep the Boxing Gym clean and sanitised. We are extremely conscious of hygiene at the gym at all times, and have, in line with recommendations, ramped up our cleaning and cleansing routines. We have taken shared boxing gloves and focus mitts out of use, all other shared equipment must be sprayed with hospital grade disinfectant after EVERY use, a wash down tub for smaller equipment is in place. germicidal soap and water in the toilets to enable you to wash your hands thoroughly and the cold water dispensers are. Not in use. The entire gym will also be cleaned with hospital grade disinfectants before and after each fitness session. **PLEASE NOTE** The cold water dispensers are not in use - please bring your own bottled water - we will endeavour to have bottle water available You must use your own boxing gloves - Do not share Please do not come to the gym if you have any flu/cold symptoms You must bring a towel to use on the equipment such as the bikes & rowers In the event that QLD Health or another Government agency advises us to close, then we do so immediately. We will reopen when we are advised to do so and when it is considered safe for staff and clients. Given the rapidly changing nature of this situation, it is difficult to determine if and when a closure may occur. We urge you to take advantage of the information contained on the following websites: Australian Government - Department of Health https://www.health.gov.au/ Queensland Health https://www.health.qld.gov.au//publ/fact-sheet-coronavirus These websites contain up to the minute information and advice, including: - A self-assessment for risk of coronavirus (COVID-19), - Ways to reduce your risk to coronavirus, - What it is, - Who is at Risk, - What you need to do if asked to self-isolate, - How the infection spreads - Symptoms - How to prepare
20.01.2022 Coachs Catch up with Mick Daly MBA Tournament 3/08/19 FRIDAY NIGHT ... #1 Lachlan Begg Went up against a slightly bigger opponent in his second bout, Loc went down in a points decision but he displayed a vast improvement in technique and style from his maiden bout, which impressed me. #2 Jack Williams Won with an unanimous points decision. Fought well but it would have been a hell of a show if Jack put the pressure on like he does in sparring. #3 Tyler Wheeler Won with an unanimous points decision by doing what he needed in the last 10 seconds of every round. Not the performance that I was expecting after the show stopper at the Novice Titles. Hoping hes saving the repeat for the QLD titles. #4 Lewis The Lip Black Off to a slow start but dominated the second round and very close in the 3rd. I thought he did enough to win but the judges saw something different. After his performance of good combinations, power punching & listening, I have no doubt he will do well at the QLD titles. #5 Emily Jo Emily came out in the first round & knocked her opposition to the ground, this shocked her opponent into action who came out firing in the second. Emily jo saved all of her energy until the last 30 seconds of the 3rd & went cray cray but it was too late to win the fight. Losing by a unanimous points decision. #6 Duncan Begg This bout could have gone either way. Duncan came out with a plan ....which went out the window when his opponent landed a nice straight right on his chin. The switch was flicked & Duncan off loaded to win by RSC in the first round. #7 Justin Serio Justin came out of the corner like a horse busting through the gate on derby day. Showing heart bigger than Phar Lap to go the distance to win by unanimous decision. In the 3rd Justin was ridden to the ground like a bareback bronc but jumped up like a equestrian pony to giddy up a win. Thanks Mack for hosting a great show with evenly matched fights. Thanks goes to our Bus Driver! Tommy we hope to see you on a few more trips. Head down until the QLD s
