19.01.2022 Notes on healing your piercing: A piercing is a puncture wound and general wound care principles apply. First few weeks these are especially important: 1. protect it from physical damage:... -don't touch it. -Cover with a bandage when you can. -Be gentle when cleaning. -Tongues: try not to talk or play with it 2. Protect it from infection: -irrigate with saline twice a day. -tongues/ oral piercings: rinse mouth with saline after anything goes in your mouth (food, drink, cigarettes, ect) -avoid other people's body fluids in your piercing -don't touch it. -Cover with a bandage when you can. 3.Dealing with infection: -see your GP -there are some gnarly infections that can occur including life threatening sepsis and brain absesses. - Streptococcus areus and other bacteria are commonly on the surface of people's skin. -Many many bacterium and sometimes fungal disease is swirling around your mouth. -Piercing breaks the protective barrier leaving an open wound you need to care for at home. Like any open wound, this opening allows infectious pathogens entry until it heals (first few weeks). -While waiting to see your GP you can apply a topical antiseptic or use an antiseptic mouthwash for oral piercings. -Both topically applied 3% Hydrogen peroxide or iodine work well against infection. They do however damage healthy cells as well as the bad guys so only use it on infection, not on a normally healing piercing. Ok friends, happy healing!!!

15.01.2022 Often I get asked if 2 lobes are still $160. This is my reply: Yes. My costs are the same no matter where I pierce so I charge the same for all my piercings. $100 for the first hole and $60 each for any additional piercings on the same person/same day. Many people will choose to get lobes done with a gun due to the cost. With gun piercings just be aware the gun itself cannot be sterilised and has been a documented source of blood borne infections (mostly hepatitis). Also the ...mechanics of the gun utilise blunt force trauma to ram a relatively dull stud through the flesh, leaving a fair bit of trauma to heal from. The studs themselves are often too tight and the ear can swell around the jewellery needing to be surgically removed. Additionally the metal used is usually surgical steel. Surgical steel has been banned in most of Europe for initial piercings due to the 14%nickel it contains. Titanium jewellery is a safer choice. Hoops are safer than butterfly backs to allow for swelling. Needles cause less trauma. Needles are sterile and guns are not. Again, often it is the cost that encourages people to get a gun piercing. 14.01.2022 Snake Eyes And why I don't do them The reason is the danger involved. Some places in the world have actually made them illegal to perform. The main issues involve pinning separate muscle groups in the tongue together so they cannot function properly and the risk of piercing the hypoglossal nerves and lingual arteries running either side of the midline.

10.01.2022 Hi! Another answer to a frequently asked question: What is all the sudden hype about the cease smoking piercing? There is a centre I've seen online claiming 100% success. This concerns me greatly. What the cease smoking piercing is based on is piercing an acupuncture point (already frowned upon by acupuncturists as it is believed a piercing will over stimulate the point). The acupuncture point with the most peer reviewed documentation is the Shen Men. This has been shown to r...educe anxiety and pain. If one of my clients wants to try a piercing to stop smoking , this is the point I pierce. It tackles the addiction by reducing the anxiety. Since smoking is often self medication to treat anxiety this is a viable idea. I do not guarantee any results and am a co-experimenter with my clients. It has been really great to see it helping people though. After it heals, it seems giving the piercing jewellery a wiggle can activate the acupuncture spot. There are so many what if's with this piercing but so far it seems to help a few folks and like all piercings, it looks pretty cool See more

02.01.2022 getting a bit excited about hydrogen peroxide at the mo so thought I'd share :) instead of antibacterial products that contribute to antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria, "There are no known disease-causing bacteria or fungi that develop resistance to hydrogen peroxide" I'm currently investigating best way to incorporate into aftercare.
